It's time for Tang Di's Storytelling
今天要跟大家说的这个故事呢
The story we are talking about today
是有关于
is about
因小失大得不偿失的故事
to save a little only to lose a lot.
“To save a penny only to lose the scholar hat.”
故事是这样的
This is how the story goes.
在古时候有一个人叫程相
In ancient times, there was a man named Cheng Xiang,
他的父亲希望他未来能有成就当上宰相
whose father hoped that he would be a successful prime minister.
而程相自己啊
He also
也立志要考上状元
wanted to be a scholar
因为他是一个很聪明
because he was a very smart
而且很有才华的人
and talented man.
可是程相的老师却不以为然喔
However, Cheng Xiang's teacher disagrees with him
他觉得程相没有当上宰相的命
and thinks that he is not destined to be a prime minister.
问老师为什么
Cheng Xiang asked his teacher why,
老师也不说
but he did not tell him.
好后来啊
Later,
大考的日子终于到了
the day of the big exam finally arrived.
程相进了考场大笔一挥
Cheng Xiang entered the examination room
哇 真的是文采飞扬
and wrote with his brilliant pen,
写得非常的好
showing his excellent literacy grace.
考卷交出去之后走出了考场
After handing over the paper, he walked out of the examination room.
这个考场主考官
The examiner,
看见程相的考卷是非常的满意
who was very satisfied with Cheng Xiang's examination paper,
他就把程相的考卷定为第一名
gave him the first place in the exam,
那也就是状元
that is, the Zhuangyuan.
那程相走出了考场
Then Cheng Xiang went out of the examination hall,
在这个准备等放榜的日子时候呢
and on the day when he was waiting for the results to be released,
他就进了一家酒楼来吃饭
he went into a restaurant to eat.
他一进酒楼就看到地上
And when he entered the restaurant, he saw
有一文钱
a penny on the ground.
他就用脚踩住它之后啊
So he stepped on it with his foot and
捡起来放进了口袋
picked it up and put it in his pocket.
而这个举动却被
This act was seen
也在酒楼吃饭的一个朝中大臣给看见啰
by a minister of the court who was also eating in the restaurant.
好在这边先跟大家说一下
I would like to tell you
这个一文钱到底是
how much this one penny is
我们现在的多少钱
in our money today.
大家看到
As you can see,
两块钱而已喔
it's only two dollars.
一文钱就是我们现在的两块钱
A penny is our two dollars now.
好隔天放榜的日子终于来了
The next day, the day to release the results finally came.
程相果真考上了
Cheng Xiang really made it
第一名中了状元
as the first scholar and became the Zhuangyuan.
而中状元的人啊
The Zhuangyuan had to
他要到皇宫里面的金銮殿来跟皇上谢恩
come to the Hall of Supreme Harmony to thank him for his kindness.
他一进到金銮殿啦
As soon as he entered the Hall of Supreme Harmony,
就被这个
he was recognized
在酒楼看到他贪小便宜的这个大臣给认出来了
by the minister who saw him in the restaurant.
于是这位大臣就把这件事情了告诉了皇上
So the minister told the emperor about the incident.
皇上一听啊大怒
The emperor was furious.
他说连一文钱都贪的人
He said that he was greedy for even a penny,
这样子
how could he be entrusted
怎么能够把治理国家的重责大任交给他呢
with the important responsibility of governing the country?
于是就下令把他的这个状元帽
So the emperor ordered that his Zhuangyuan cap
给摘了下来
be taken off
而且啊永不录用
and that he would never be employed.
程相听了简直就是晴天霹雳啊
When Cheng Xiang heard this, it was like a bolt from the blue,
他非常的沮丧
and he was very depressed.
回到了家乡
When he returned to his hometown,
那家乡的人知道了这个消息啊
people there heard the news
纷纷跑去问老师
and asked Cheng Xiang’s teacher
哇 这个老师怎么这么厉害呢
how he could be so brilliant
有预知的这个能力啊
and have the ability to predict things?
结果老师说
The teacher said,
其实
"Although
程相虽然是一个聪明又有才华的人
Cheng Xiang is an intelligent and talented man,
但是啊
he has been
他从小就非常的贪心
very greedy and
而且重点是他很自私喔
selfish since he was a child.
那这样品行的人
A man of such character
其实未来是成就不了什么大事的
is not likely to achieve great things in the future.”
那大家听了觉得老师讲得
Everyone felt that what the teacher said was
非常的有道理
very reasonable.
其实一个人真正有好的成就
In fact, the real success of a person
是取决于他的这个品行
depends on his character.
品行有多好
The better one's character,
成就就会有多好
the better one's achievement will be.
大家说对不对啊
Don't you agree?
好 所以时时提醒自己做个善良的好人
Good, so always remind yourself to be a good and kind person,
心存善念那就准没错啦
that's definitely all that matters!
