Welcome

[change source]

Hello, Cassandra, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

If you would like to test Wikipedia, please use the sandbox. Please do not test Wikipedia by editing its articles.

Good luck and happy editing! -- Da Punk '95 (talk) 05:57, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to your question

[change source]

01:09, 8 May 2008 (hist) (diff) Metal Gear‎ (why is this in the Nintendo games category? it's not made by nintendo) (top)

It is probably in the Nintendo games category because someone thought that since Solid Snake appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, therefore, he must be made by Nintendo. Obviously, that is incorrect. Good work catching this! Cheers, Razorflame 03:10, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catredirect

[change source]

Hi there! I've noticed now that twice you've nominated a category for deletion when you could have easily redirected it using the catredirect template. I used to make the same mistake before someone told me about the catredirect template, and it is really easy to use. First, you need to make the category that you want to rename the currently existing category to. Second, you need to go into all the articles to change the categories from the currently existing one to the one with the name you want to change it to. Third, slap the catredirect template onto the currently existing template (The one before you renamed it). Cheers, Razorflame 19:13, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I read your comments over at the simple talk about working with others. Some things that people said made it sound like you would be looking for help to write pages about video games. I also like games and like writing about them. If you needed someone to look at your pages and add to them, you can always ask me for help. Scanna (talk) 03:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pokemons

[change source]

Hello Cassandra (You who see the future, but whom no one bleieves, accrding to Greek mythology). On the Pokemon RFD page you mentioned that you had access to some eager editors drooling to write Pokemon articles. As I wrote in the article, I can't really tell them apart, and personally I think the page(s) mentioned should be deleted. If I look at what most of the others think though, we should probably keep them and rework them into something better. We are however very few people here (and probably have neither time nor knowledge to achieve this). If you can ask the editors, we would be happy to accept them. In that case, I would close the RFD for kept for reworking. If it however on our own man/woman-power, I would tend to close this as delete (for lack of resources). Any thoughts on how we should proceed? --Eptalon (talk) 11:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a note on the en:WT:PCP. We shall see how they respond. Cassandra (talk) 21:54, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've replied to your comment. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 05:25, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a video game project?

[change source]

Enough said in the header - is there? It'd be nice to have a group of people collaborating to "unify" everyone, and help expand video game articles. - A Link to the Past (talk) 01:12, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for jumping in, but no, there is none according to the list at WP:WIKIPROJECT. But you can create one. Just follow the procedure and directions at WP:WIKIPROJECT. -- RyanCross (talk) 01:14, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I made it. Check here. - A Link to the Past (talk) 01:52, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that we should encourage the "rating" of articles. At the very least, we should have a template that allows us to assess the article's class. - A Link to the Past (talk) 01:39, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits in the article Reporters Without Borders. You have helped simplifying the article. I am quite new here with the simplification process. Can you please look at the article Anti-tobacco movement in Nazi Germany. I tried to simplify as much as possible, but may be more simplification will be needed. Your edits will be very much helpful. Thank you. --Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 08:23, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take a look at it. It's hard to do so...hard to retain the original meaning while trying to sound not too condescending. Cassandra 17:44, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy, Cassandra. I noticed a spelling mistake on your talk page policies. "# Don't blank any one else's psots." I think you mean to say "posts", not "psots". Thought I'd let you know. Cheers! Bstone (talk) 00:59, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Yui

[change source]

Thank you very much. I more or less expanded her article on the English Wikipedia to what it is today, the rest has been more or less updates. Then there was a struggle, to put it lightly, which I more or less lost to the people using Wikipedia's rules to their side's advantage. Since she has never been referred to as "Yui" and her real name was never revealed, I wanted to maintain all articles mentioning her as "YUI". I've come to terms with being outnumbered on that issue, but what I can fight is people submitting unsourced and untrue information, which is important even on the Simple English Wikipedia, so thank you very much for helping to resolve this issue. --Ifrit (talk) 11:16, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think I am ready for a RfA? --  Da Punk '95  talk  21:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should wait a few more months. I agree with RyanCross when he says that mainspace edit count should be much higher (yours is at 38%). Cassandra 21:32, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And just for a diff of where I said that, I mentioned that when I reviewed you. And I agree with Cassandra, you've been here for a while, but just a few months wait would be better. -- RyanCross (talk) 21:38, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

[change source]

Perhaps I did go a bit too far, I just wanted to ensure that there's no way for people to not go to their intended articles. I'll try to limit to other uses and abbreviations, but as it is, the current redirects should be fine. - A Link to the Past (talk) 01:34, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cassandra. Thanks for your comments thus far. Can you have another look and see if I've addressed your concerns? Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:04, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Motion pictures (categories)

[change source]

When dealing with motion pictures (films/movies), our categories use the term "movies" instead of "films". This is mainly because the term movie is not ambiguous while film has several meaning. Oddly our articles do not always reflect this practice (film, film director, etc) but that is an argument for another day. Also certain things common in en:wp movie articles are rarely used here, mainly year. Just directly linking to the year is used. Also, "directed" by should be linked to film director and "written" to screenwriter (or screenplay) as the terms are not Simple English and should be linked/defined.

I went through and recategorized all the articles in cat:American films and cat:English-language films to place them into the correct categories (Category:United States movies and Category:English-language movies as well as cleaned up the rest of the cat entries in them and deleted the categories as duplicates. -- Creol(talk) 12:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, i remembered the "(year) movie" cates, but when I was copying over others from en, I forgot baout the other movie cats. Cassandra 14:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After these vandalisms: 1 and 2, is possible to request checkuser control for Ælison, MBisanz and Alasdairgreen27? Regards,--Pio (talk) 12:04, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well in theory I should be hitting an autoblock posting this since Ælison was hardblocked for vandalism, and I think AlasdairGreen27 lives on a different continent than I do. I know at en-wp checkuser can't be used to prove innocence, but if simple-en permits it, I have no objection to my account being checkusered and any alternate accounts publically disclosed. Cheers. My Request for Adminship

[change source]

Hi Cassandra. I don't know if you noticed, but I joined WikiProject Pokemon that you started. The reason why I joined is because I would really like to improve Simple English Wikipedia's Pokemon areas. When I was a kid, I was a big fan of Pokemon. I caught all the Pokemon in the video game at one point. :) I admit it, I'm still a bit of a fan, and I do know a lot about Pokemon themselves since I think I still know every little thing about them. So that's why I joined. Since you started it, I would like to ask you what is the main goal of the project, and what should we improve first? I would like to know, it could really help me. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 07:16, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TBH, the project was for anyone from the English POKE project wanting to have a go at it...nobody responded. Anyway, I suppose, the goals of the project are to create a comprehensive guide on the games and species articles, for now. I'll write up some more specific guidelines on how I want the species articles to turn out. Cassandra 16:36, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I made this edit recently. Does that violate criteria/specific #2? If so, I'll be more than happy to revert it. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 08:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As Elizabeth from Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl would put it – they're just guidelines. Don't worry too much about it. These are pretty rough, I'll smoothe it out when I think about this more. Cassandra 08:21, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quotation

[change source]

"The Simple English Wikipedia is like a refreshing breath of air compared to the damned and constant infighting over at our big brother. Tenuous editing, edit warring, 3RR; massive sockpuppetry; hundreds of blocks issued and pages deleted, AFD discsussions opened; thousands of kilobytes of text on AN and ANI and RFAR; here, nothing. A pure experience, focusing on what Wikipedis is really about – the improvement of articles."

Clubhouse Games

[change source]

What do you think of the idea of moving it to 42 All-Time Classics? I think it should be - I'm guessing that since this is Simple English, its audience would be people in Europe, like in Spain, France, etc., where it's called this in those regions. On top of this, from my observations, it's been more popular in these regions than North America. - A Link to the Past (talk) 03:37, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Near future RfA nomination

[change source]

Hello Cassandra. You may have noticed, but I have been inactive these last 2-3 days. This is because I was going over basically every one of your edits ever since your first edit about 3-4 months ago. I must say, Cassandra, I am thoroughly impressed. The reason why I came here was to ask if I may nominate you for adminship in the near future. You are certainly one of our most civil, wise, and very best contributers here on Simple English Wikipedia. I have much more to say about you and your very helpful contributions, but it's better if I wait until you actually do try an RfA, that is, if you accept this offer. I'd be more than happy to nominate you in the near future, and I will tell you when I think you are ready for administratorship. Now may I ask, may I nominate you very soon when I, and especially yourself, feel you are ready for adminship? Best regards, Ryan†Cross (talk) 06:33, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Take care Cassandra :) It could be a new Ryan's trick ;-))) letting him enjoy the pleasure to keep a Strong Oppose vote without explaining why. ONaNcle (talk) 09:38, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me? I very clearly explained why I strong opposed. The reason I moved from oppose to strong oppose was because you showed you had a very low knowledge
...previously answered here ONaNcle (talk)
of the quick deletion policy since you added QD to many articles that clearly didn't meet quick deletion criteria. I actually thought you were desperate to become an administrator since you started tagging QDs right after I mentioned you didn't have enough deleted edits. Even if you had 1000 deleted edits, and only 30 QD tag deletes, that won't be good. And looking at your edits, it seems you haven't changed. If you keep this up, becoming an administrator is very far along the road. If you want to learn how to QD tag correctly, watch users like me who tag most QDs correctly. -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 10:09, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Who :) is desperate to become an administrator somewhere? ONaNcle (talk) 10:29, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Their not desperate. I highly doubt all of them are desperate. You have to remember that adminship is no big deal, and administrators are not better than everybody else, nor do they show more power. Everyday is an equal. ;) And I don't understand how you think I'm trying to "trick" Cassandra when I'm offering to nominate her. That brings a higher chance at passing an RfA since it's not a self-nom and that an experience user (me) is nominating her. :) -- RyanTest (talk) 10:37, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is about to escalate into an argument. Please keep a cool head and be civil. Thank you. Chenzw  Talk  11:29, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your offer, Ryan, and I will accept a nomination when you feel that I am ready for adminship. Cassandra 20:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Cassandra. I saw you did this. I was wondering what name would be best for the article. Should it stay as Rolling Stone or should it be moved to Rolling Stone Magazine? Thanks! -- RyanCross (talk) 06:24, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I think we should follow the English Wikipedia's lead on this and keep it at this title. If you want to move it, I'll be happy to delete it. Cassandra talk 06:27, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, I would have to agree with you. The reason would be because of the original logo, here. It just says 'Rolling Stone", and if it were to be moved to "Rolling Stone Magazine", people might be confused since the logo just sats "Rolling Stone". The better lead would be keeping the article name from what the logo says since the logo is what most people search for in Google searches which results in better search results, rather than adding "Magazine", which will most likely lower down search results. I just did a Google search, and what do you know, they appear at the same place. :P But I still think sticking to what the logo says would be best. So I agree following the English Wikipedia's method. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 06:34, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there

Are you still active on this site? I noticed that you posted a black rose picture onto your userpage, and I was wondering if that meant that you were retiring from editing on this site. Cheers, Razorflame 23:00, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm still active. Thanks for asking though. Cassandra talk 04:59, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That reminds me... why did you put that black rose on your user page? The edit summary was somewhat confusing to me also. :/ Do you mind clarifying (you don't have to though :) )? -- RyanCross (talk) 05:01, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's the language of flowers; black means death and hatred (but also farewell, rejuvenation, and rebirth). I thought that Razorflame 9 had turned into a particularly nasty bit of work, most especially the sniping on Giggy's user talk page and the cascade of comments and rebuttals in the oppose section. This isn't the Simple English Wikipedia I signed up for. This is the exact kind of sniping that's routinely expected on the English Wikipedia, but not here.
The quote is from the musical A Chorus Line, which has one of the most amazing soundtracks ever. The exact location is from the song "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love." Cassandra talk 05:06, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you protect that article that is being vandalized (it's been vandalized 6 times in the past hour) temporarily for 24 hours to prevent more vandalism? Cheers, Razorflame 01:41, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, why protect? I've reported the IP to WP:VIP, all you really need is to block the IP. No protection is needed, IMO. -- RyanCross (talk) 01:43, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is no reason for protection now...the only reason why I requested protection was because of the fact that he was still vandalizing. Now that he has been blocked, there is no reason for protection :). Cheers, Razorflame 01:45, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Cassandra. Also, the user who is vandalizing the page can also be blocked too if repeated continues. I don't think 2 users (1 blocked, and they could be the same) vandalizing an article is enough for protection, IMO. -- RyanCross (talk) 01:46, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes, 2 users is all it takes to completely ruin an article :). But in this instance, protection is definitely not needed. I was thinking about what ifs and not about the present :). I have learned from this, though :). Cheers, Razorflame 01:55, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User page Fmaschek

[change source]

Hello, I'm Felix Maschek from Hamburg with a common wikipedia account Fmaschek. Please don't delete my page again. Thank you!

I've not been logged in. Sorry.

Deletion Summary

[change source]

Well, it gives non-admins (who can't view deleted edit histories) an idea of why the article was deleted. Especially if it's a non-obvious entry like Hydroelectric dam. Had the remark been an attack, I would have certainly cleared it. But the remark wasn't directed to any person in particular, so there's not much to worry about (unless of course, hydroelectric dams have emotions and lawyers). :) - --TBC 01:07, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re-archiving?

[change source]

I thought that, per the GFDL, we are supposed to archive by moving pages. I don't know where I heard this, do you know where you heard that the community has decided to archive by cut&paste? I had notes on my talk page from long ago about improper archival methods. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 00:17, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that signed posts is sufficient attribution per the GFDL. I don't know if we decided or not, just that I've seen Gwib doing it since I've been here. Cassandra talk 00:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is a chance that, if not attributed in the history, that edits signed with a certain name were made by an impostor, and we can't always trust signatures. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 02:11, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Er, I'm not sure what you're driving at. When Wikipedians meet in real life, it's usually scheduled at a Wikipedia:Meetup. As far as I know (Google confirms it), there has never been anything scheduled like that. Cassandra talk 09:24, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, you said (on the page about SEWP) that we had scheduled a meetup. But there hasn't been one scheduled for SEWP (maybe for ENWP, but not here). The link you added leads to a bunch of articles on SEWP with the word "meetup" in them. --Gwib -(talk)- 09:29, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bad pages

[change source]

By the looks of it, we have a lot of cleaning up to do now because of all the pages the IP created... -- RyanCross (talk) 05:43, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. Think I should have blocked the IP for 24 hours straight off teh bat? But Creol got to it already. Man, he really is bot-like sometimes. Cassandra talk 06:28, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Though, at least an only warning would have been good to use first, and if the IP continued to create nonsense pages after the warning, then I would block, but thats only me if I were an administrator. Actually, Creol has been a bot multiple times before. :P -- RyanCross (talk) 07:19, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alleyway

[change source]

Should the Alleyway article be deleted or reduced? The user hasn't edited this Wikipedia since he created it, and no one has really edited Alleyway - and on top of that, the article is pretty much just an article he worked on that he simplified for this Wiki, and I don't think it really helps us to have a simplified version of en.wiki's articles, because if we did that with every article, there wouldn't be any significant editing warranted, all we'd do is simplify the English articles. - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:18, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like a straight copy and paste of the en version, unless I've overlooked a little simplification, so I could speedy it under that criteria. I've rarely interacted with KFM on en so I wouldn't feel bad about deleting it...yet I still feel a measured reluctance to do the deed anyway.
The mechanics of the SEW are hard to quantify, there are different trains of thought. I used to vow to never use the English Wikipedia when writing plot summaries, but in practice I have to use it to avoid the worse pitfall of gross factual errors. On the other hand, The Rambling Man (talk · contribs) has both used en (particularly for American Airlines Flight 11) but has yet completely pioneered his own research for the tennis articles, whcih are not featured on en. cassandra (talk) 07:25, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In Re: Alison's talk page

[change source]

I tried e-mailing Anticabal at gmail (dot) com and the e-mail address Somey gave on my blog, and I got no response. Can you create the account for me? I don't like hunting for freemail addresses, so feel free to use your ISP email address (I won't spam you, and all they will send you is an email for confirmation, maybe something else, but not spam). I also saw the injustice of AD's banning, and I was banned for the same reason. I would like to discuss it with him. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 03:06, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And erm... I don't know where you live, but in the US, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act considers a child under the age of 13. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 03:08, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See this thread. They consider a child to be less than 16 years of age). I'm just saying, creating a new account won't help things, and will get you banned again. I'm not doing your bidding when the fundamental problem isn't corrected to begin with – a lack of parental consent. cassandra (talk) 03:17, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I shouldn't need a parent's consent. Unless you're Somey, you can't speak for Somey. I want to discuss with him. If you have a moral objection, that's fine. Remember, I was asking Alison, not you. And that was Herschelkrustofsky's post, someone who has held a grudge against me and was the one that banned me. He's not willing to negotiate, but I want to ask Somey about it. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 03:21, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Then you asked me...yes, I know I don't speak for Somey, but if he hasn't responded, that means that his original stance still stands. You can ask Alison to post a topic on the Wikipedia Review Review board hwoever, maybe that will get their attention better than an email. cassandra (talk) 03:23, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have access to the WRR board. Somey somehow deleted the board, or made it personally invisible to me. I want to be personally involved in a discussion, even if it's private with Somey. And, for some reason, I've never received a response from a Gmailer. It annoys me. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 03:26, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the WRR board is only available to registered members. If you don't like that, the only thing you can do is try again, because Herschelkrustofsky will ban you again even if Alison/me create an account for you. cassandra (talk) 03:41, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am a registered member. I can still view pages and posts, unless they are in the Tar Pit or the WRR. I am not sure if someone creates an account for me. Unless HK reads SEW, he probably won't know, if all I'm doing is PMing Somey. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 03:44, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, see WP:AN. To see if that really transcluded. Now that I think about it, that should be protected so vandals can't do that. I was inspired by Willy on Wheels, but I was seeing whether it would change the actual RC (the last edits done), or if it transcluded. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 05:04, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The page has been protected (autoconfirm) since the end of June 08. -- Creol(talk) 05:41, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image size

[change source]

Actually, the en-wiki MOS says the following about image sizes:

"The current image markup for landscape-format and square images is (for example):

or for portrait-format images:

The pixel size parameter may be omitted; this will result in default image width of 180px (140px for portrait format), although this value can be altered in user preferences. If an image displays satisfactorily at the default size, it is recommended that no explicit size be specified. Examples of images which typically need more than the default size include lead images (see above) and detailed maps."

So, it recommends no explicit size be set but, in cases where source images are small, e.g. in the case of Ivanovic's image, there's no recommendation preventing the image being made a bit bigger (per the examples provided in the MOS). The Rambling Man (talk) 21:20, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category

[change source]

Caucasian is a real term and usually see as better than just saying white. There is a category for African American actors, why not Caucasian American actors; I figured making a category called white American actors wouldn’t be politically correct. African Americans descended from all different nations in Africa but they are all put into one category, African American. If we are going to categorize black Americans we need to categorize white Americans. I disagree in using terms such as "German American" if the person was born in America; because they are Americans not Germans. You would only use the "German American" term if they were born German and became American.--CPacker (talk) 06:56, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recreated Golda Meir

[change source]

Hiya, I'm visiting from en-wikipedia and saw the Golda Meir creation (not too funny, man? she's a woman!), anyway. I sort-of copied and edited (greatly) the article. Could you have a quick look and tell me if it is okay for here? I'd like to add some more articles. Thanks! Fr33kmantalk 19:55, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your full protection to Wikipedia:Recentchanges, I have done this because it was one user [Edge37] who was causing the problem, who is now indefinitely blocked, so, there was no reason to protect it if it was one user causing a problem, thank you. Oysterguitarist 02:06, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't just Edge; Jonas had done it before (just as a test); that was part of what justified the full protection of the page as well. cassandra (talk) 05:22, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see, I just like trying other steps before fully protecting a page, as other users should be able to edit if they wish, so I like dealing with the problem users, but if there are a lot of them, I would protect the page. Anyways if you'd like to add the protection back go ahead. Oysterguitarist 07:08, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reliability?

[change source]

Angelfire is a web hosting service. The owner of the website, not Angelfire, wrote the content. What is so unreliable about the source? Can you show me a link to this? — Jonas Rand · (talk) 06:32, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See en:WP:RS; Angelfire can be written by anybody, which makes it unreliable. I could create a website stating that aliens engineered the coup and that they killed the shah because they hated him. It has not been fact-checked by anyone. Official government websites, sites by historians, and encyclopedias = good sources. Angelfire, self-published sources, etc. = they're bad. cassandra (talk) 06:38, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that. I'll just find another source that says the same thing. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 06:41, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also noticed that you changed the last sentence of the paragraph, which read "As the people were angry and could no longer stand the abuse they faced, the Iranian Revolution was launched in 1979, empowering Ayatollah Khomeini". It was edited to read "The people were angry and would later launched the Iranian Revolution in 1979, putting the Ayatollah Khomeini in power". Although "no longer [stood] the abuse they faced" may seem POV, the people were tired of the abusive shah, and that is somewhat of a consensus amongst historians. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 07:02, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Huh. I didn't even consider POV when removing it – I just thought my wording was a lot more straightforward and simpler. I wouldn't mind seeing some sources for the consensus among historians, though. cassandra (talk) 07:05, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[1] "Had the coup never taken place, the ayatollahs, who had supported the coup against Mossadeq, would never have gained their political clout...[h]ad the coup never taken place and the ayatollahs never been given the political clout they had enjoyed under the shah, the June uprising of 1963, which was fueled by the clerics' unhappiness with the shah's attempts at modernization, would also have never taken place...nor would have a little-known cleric, a certain Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, gained international attention as the spiritual leader of that confrontation against the shah. Had the coup never taken place, Khomeini would have remained a little-known cleric." [2] "By 1978, unrest against the Shah [the unpopularity of the Shah sparked Khomeini's rise to power] had escalated into a violent uprising against his authority called the Iranian Revolution or the Islamic Revolution." [3] cited here, Hornberger: "The coup, in essence, paved the way for the rise to power of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini." [4] "Operation Ajax, in and by itself, was a success. But, in a dialectical sense, it was a great failure for Washington, since it set the stage for the overthrow of the Shah, and the advent of Khomeini, in 1979. All of which, Kinzer reminds us, is a “stark warning to the United States and to any country that ever seeks to impose its will on a foreign land.”" The Fisk article that I cited also shows that Woodhouse himself, who hatched the plot, realised what it led to. I shouldn't have said historians, but these people all say that this is correct. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 07:26, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since you implied that I should share you my idea, here it goes: I think there should be elections to see who could be president of a specific Wikipedia (i.e. Afrikaans) for a year and there will be sign ups for President and a running mate and election days on a different day (personally, I want the sign up day for president and Vice-President on May 21 and the election day on November 4, but you can decide) and also on those days, anyone who is blocked person can be unblocked ONLY for those days, and if a blocked person signs up and wins the election, the blocked will be block only for the period they run. The sign up is also opend to accounts and IP's. Please respond on my talkpage and I'm sorry if I confused you. 24.1.4.241 (talk) 16:27, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Times like these

[change source]

Times like these are always bound to happen, best advice I have is to say "Screw all you crazy people, I'm here to write an encyclopedia" and wander away from the drama and do what we all should be doing - editing articles. Or poking people with pointy sticks.. each to their own choice. -- Creol(talk) 05:26, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We do not censor articles...anything that is notable and verifable, stays. I could argue that all of our biological articles - penis vagina ejaculation sexual intercourse - would not be suitable for kids, but they'd laugh if I tried to nominate those for deletion. (Note: hypotical, I have no problme with those article.) alexandra (talk) 18:48, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you? Well I would laugh too. Potential links, however, to the fuck factory and whores.com I would speedy delete every time because they are not the same laughing matter. Do you think it is worth contacting me personally and making comparisons to biological articles? Do you think I should not draw attention to this subject as it is unhelpful? ~ R.T.G 18:56, 29 October 2008 (UTC) NOTE Reference ~ R.T.G 18:57, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you try looking at the links I have produced to defend this porn bio from deletion rather than sounding off like a broken record in producing the same MSN search string. This guy has been nominated for six AVN Awards, an award that is considered the Oscars of porn. If that doesn't establish notability, nothing will. alexandra (talk) 19:01, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I don't really have much interest in defending this "porn bio" and that live search link is top of the list for notable as regards the article. Good music should be played over and over with no odd feelings. ~ R.T.G 19:04, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You think that links to "penis" and "vagina" are great defence because you are winning? You have no interest in simple being suitable for kids. ~ R.T.G 19:08, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry to continue editing your page but I do have a suggestion... you should defend porn stars who are interested in demonstrating and dirt birds like "Derrick" who top the list with whorewhisperer.com you should challenge. I don't beleive you will but you have heard it here first :D ~ R.T.G 19:12, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what you think by me "winning." This isn't a fight. The winner is the encyclopedia. If the article meets the Wikipedia's notability standards, it is kept. Your "not suitable for children" argument is arguing from a nonexistent policy on this Wikipedia. Instead of attacking my attempted defense to that, destroy my defense by pointing me to a policy that says we censor articles for children's sake. alexandra (talk) 19:12, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear child , the policy and outcome is irrelevant to the discussion. Some of these characters, such as this one, are involved with websites where the language begins at abusive and goes further from there. We can display war criminals with long lists of their abuse and searching on the next page will not bring us one step towards involvement in their debasement. Apparently women are least safe in their own spousal home. Men and boys are susceptable to this stuff, I can explain exactly why for you, but I beleive I have passed your point of interest by now. Don't worry about it so much. Regardless of my views, and the claims to be suitable for children, persons will maintain policy and concensus on this topic for at least some time. G Luck. (I do not want it on my page, maybe you guessed) ~ R.T.G 19:24, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe if the site was not under construction I would understand the joke you made. alexandra (talk) 19:18, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The vast majority of sites with names like "whore" do not get into family dinner, lets put it that way, and if you think persons like me are "oh they're all Britneys" and I hate them or something, you are wrong, it's not all Britney and bubbles at all. No, it really is stuffed up with the most awful stuff. Why is it not stuff up with "love the bitch" or "they all love each other"? No, it's real bad stuff, and it is unique in our society. If you want to discuss someone who has problem with naked females, beleive me, you have the wrong person. I just appreciate the claim that the wiki is for children and people with learning problems. ~ R.T.G 19:39, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
