Al-Safira (Arabic: السفيرة‎ / ALA-LC: as-Safīrah; North Sirie Arabic: Sfīre) is a Sirie ceety admeenistratively belangin tae the Aleppo Govrenorate. It is the admeenistrative center for the Al-Safira Destrict. As Safīrah haes an altitude o 348 meter (1,142 ft), an a population o 106,382 as o 2007, makkin it the 11t lairgest ceety per geographical entity in Sirie.

Medieval geografer Yaqut al-Hamawi spells the name Asfīrah[2] (أسفيرة), not as-Safira (السفيرة), which indicates that the definite airticle in the modren spellin is a result o hypercorrection.

As-Safira wis kent in pre-Islamic times as Sipri.[1] Historians[3] hae suggestit that the name Sipri mey hae come frae the Akkadian wird siparru meanin "bronze", which micht indicate that copper wis mined an bronze wis wirkit thare.
