Etymology 2
editFor pronunciation and definitions of 付 – see 傅 (“teacher; instructor; to assist; etc.”). (This character is the second-round simplified form of 傅). |
Notes:
|
Usage notes
edit付 was included as the simplified form of 傅 in the second round of simplification in 1977. The current standard in Mainland China, the Table of General Standard Chinese Characters (通用规范汉字表), does not mention that 付 is a simplification of 傅. A Dictionary of Current Chinese (现代汉语词典) and the Xinhua Dictionary (新华字典) list 付 as a separate entry from 傅 (unlike other variants, which are usually put beside the main character in parentheses) and define 付 as a common variant for 傅, while Xiandai Hanyu Guifan Cidian (《现代汉语规范词典》) proscribes the use of 付 as the simplified form of 傅.
Similar to the surnames 肖 and 蕭/萧, the surname 付 (fù) and 傅 were also originally distinct, and 付 (fù) was originally a rare surname. The modern surname 付 (fù) is mostly due to second-round simplification of Chinese characters.
Etymology 3
editFor pronunciation and definitions of 付 – see 副 (“secondary; auxiliary; duplicate; etc.”). (This character is the second-round simplified and variant form of 副). |
