Wolfgang Petersen (14 March 1941 – 12 August 2022) was a German movie director and screenwriter. His work included The NeverEnding Story, Enemy Mine, Outbreak, In the Line of Fire, Air Force One, Das Boot, The Perfect Storm, Troy and Poseidon.

Petersen was born in Emden, Lower Saxony, Germany. One of his first efforts was the 1977 Die Konsequenz.

Peterson died of pancreatic cancer on 12 August 2022, at the age of 81, at his home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California.[1][2]
