The Archdiocese of Warsaw (Latin: Archidioecesis Varsaviensis) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Warsaw, Poland. It was established in 1798.
History
[change | change source]The Archdiocese of Warsaw was established on October 16, 1798. It has been an important center for the Polish Catholic Church.[1][2]
Geography
[change | change source]The archdiocese covers an area of 3,350 square kilometers. It includes 212 parishes and serves a population of 1,550,000 people, of whom about 1,490,000 are Catholics.[3]
Administration
[change | change source]The current archbishop is Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, serving since 2007. The auxiliary bishops are Piotr Jarecki, Michał Janocha, and Rafał Markowski.[4]
Major Church
[change | change source]The main church is St. John's Archcathedral in Warsaw. It is one of the most important places of Polish culture and national tradition. The Constitution of May 3 was sworn in this church. Nowadays, important state ceremonies take place there.[1]
