He is in love with Agnes, the daughter of Fenton. He has a rival in the person of Geo. Harlow, the third ranger living at the camp. Harlow is discharged for drunkenness and leaves. The next day Bob and the girl's father are summoned to fight a distant fire. They leave the girl in charge of the cabin. Harlow, in a spirit of revenge, lights a fire which is carried by the wind in the direction of the cabins, thinking in this way to avenge his wrongs at the hands of the two other rangers. Later, however, he is trapped between the two fires, and having fallen from his horse and broken his leg, is unable to escape his just punishment. The girl flees before the encroaching flames, but becomes bewildered by the smoke and flame. She is about to be overcome when Bob returns and in a daring manner affects her rescue.
