Etymology

A new term coined in the 1860s-1870s, from aiz- +‎ spriedums (“judgment”), with spriedums from spriest (past stem: spried-) (“to judge”) +‎ -ums, probably by K. Valdemārs and F. Brīvzemnieks. At that time, A. Kronvalds also proposed a term aizspriediens, which, however, never became popular.

1. prejudice, preconception (a previously made judgment about a situation, usually mistaken, often outdated, which has become an obstacle to reasonable behavior; an often mistaken negative opinion)
