Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *egir- (“to spin”), from Proto-Turkic *eg- (“to bend”). Cognate with Old Uyghur 𐽰𐽺𐽷𐽶𐽾𐽹𐽰𐽷 (äŋirmäk), Khalaj heyirmək, Turkish eğirmek, Uzbek yigirmoq. Compare also Mongolian ээрэх (eerex), a Turkic borrowing.

     bir:erig:sančdï:toquz:erig:egire:toqïdï

     He stabbed one man (with a lance) and stroke nine men surrounding them.
