Giving advice
I have absolutely no reason to doubt your good faith and committment to this encyclopedia in offering help and advice to some editors and contributors, and I sincerely hope that you will continue to do so. However, Alistair Stevenson to whom you offered help without perhaps having fully examined the situation, is firmly convinced that you clearly sympathised him. and that your advice gives him licence to continue to game the system. I have no interest whatsoever in getting involved or in escalating the situation by rasising official complaints about him, in firm belief that there are other ways of resolving situations without detracting otherss from their valuable editing time, but there might be people who are, and there is a very , very strong consensus that he might wish to review the way he communicates on talk pages..--Kudpung (talk) 01:13, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, Kudpung. I did thoroughly examine the situation, looking at virtually all of the editor's edits to user talk pages and article talk pages before responding to his inquiry. As I am not an admin, you may wish to discuss Mr. Stevenson's behavior elsewhere, if there are still problems or ill feelings between you. Regards, --Diannaa TALK 01:26, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Diannaa, thanks for taking the time to reply. I am not an admin either, but I have been aroundfor quite a while. Like you, I give a bit of advice around the site, and encourage new users. Perhaps you missed some of the most important messages when you reviewed the situation. Particularly the gross insults. (some users have been blocked for less). In spite of your advice to stay away from people he has offended, he appears to pursue a campaign of stalking to take people's comments and Wikpedia guidelines out of context and continue the unpleasantness that has caused several editors to comment. As I mentioned before, I think there are ways of resolving these matters without escalating them, but I do think somehow you inadvertently encouraged him with your sympathetic comments. Escalating the issue would only cause even more unpleaasantless all round and needlessly drag your own diffs into the debate. You are a genunely helpful person and I don't think you deserve that - such actions sometimesget quite nasty and all too often get decided in favour of the wrong people. I haven't seen you on EAR for a while - I do hope that nothing I have said has discouraged you from helping others.--Kudpung (talk) 01:24, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for your interest. I have been busy with the Backlog Elimination Drive and am not following WP:EAR at present. No, I did not make any sympathetic comments. In fact I pointed out to the user that his very first interaction with you was to make an insulting remark. Then I went to his talk page and advised him to stay away from you and away from the Chris Noth page. I have no interest in discussing the behavior of this user with you any further. Gotta go, happy editing. --Diannaa (Talk) 01:33, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Reminder?
Hi Diannaa, can you put a little note on the pages of the folks who have signed up to participate but still have zero edits? Maybe something that says "Hi, you signed up to participate in the GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, but I noticed that you haven't logged a single copy edit yet. We'd love to see you participate! The drive runs three more weeks so there's still plenty of time to earn a barnstar (or more)." You don't have to use those words exactly, just something to that effect. If you're too busy, its okay, just let me know so I can assign it to someone else. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 19:59, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder, which prompted me instead to snoop on other people's work (I don't think I'll be in the competition). I hope I give no offence by leaving a few tips (en dashes, ellipsis points, etc.) on participants' talk pages. Here's one. Tony (talk) 04:23, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Pointless edits
Please notice that Wikipedia frown upoin pointless edits like these. Furthermore, the removal of the spaces from headers has been protested several times, and should not be done. Debresser (talk) 18:41, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- My apologies. Thanks for the feedback. I will be more selective in the future when using this tool. --Diannaa (Talk) 18:44, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- Which is all I could hope for. Thank you for being conscientious about your edits. Debresser (talk) 14:32, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Interestingly, WP shows both styles of posting section headings.
- Here, [1] they are shown with no space between = and letter. E.g. "==Section
- But here, [WP:CHEAT] they are shown with a space. E.g. "== Section
- With this in mind, where are the protests (or the WP policy on pointless edits)?

A quick message
I checked Noraft's contributions, and it doesn't look like he's been on at all today. I don't know how to use auto wiki browser, but do you think, if Noraft doesn't get to it within a few hours, I could send the newsletter out manually? I'd be willing to help out, and even though it's tedious, it wouldn't be any trouble for me. Copy editing and vandal fighting, two of my main focuses on Wikipedia, can be tedious, too, so I'm used to tedious tasks. The Raptor Let's talk/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 23:06, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Noraft lives in Thailand and will probably check in within the next two hours or so. When it's midnight in London he is arriving at work. Lets wait for Noraft for a bit longer as I bet he would like to review the newsletter as well. I sent the reminder notes out manually and it only took about one minute apiece, so I have no objection to sending them manually with you later if we have to. --Diannaa (Talk) 23:15, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, that's why I said give it a couple more hours. The Raptor Let's talk/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 23:21, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, I understand now. We are both in Mountain time zone so there is lots of time for us to do it manually before bedtime if we don't hear from Noraft. We could split them up, or you could do them all and I could do some more articles. Whatever you like. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:25, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'll do them all, you can continue copy editing. It's no trouble for me. Did you create a subpage at the drive's main page with the newsletter or should I get it from your sandbox? The Raptor Let's talk/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 00:41, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. The only copy is the one in the sandbox. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 00:51, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Newsletter
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update. Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board. The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk. |
This signifies the end of my very tedious task of manually delivering the newsletters. I've delivered the newsletter to everybody except myself. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need an aspirin. ;) The Raptor Let's talk/My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 01:18, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

British Commandos
Thanks for the help on the GA for British Commandos, I have expanded the operations section would you be kind enough to give it copy edit. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 10:33, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- I have given it a first pass and will go over it again later tonight. It says Lord Lovatt was a casualty at Normandy, though elsewhere (Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat) it shows he survived to the age of 83. So was he wounded? Was it serious? --Diannaa (Talk) 22:11, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- He was wounded and it was serious enough that it ended his war but he then entered politics. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 22:44, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- I just had to read down a little further in his article and it does give the circumstances of his injury. Thanks. I read through the article once again and can spot nothing further to edit. Good job, Jim. Another nicely completed article. --Diannaa (Talk) 03:36, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry about this but a reviewer during the A Class review here has asked for another copy edit. They have not said what the deem to be the problem (possibly my adding some content to the operations section). Would you mind having another look. I also posted on the Guilds page. Thanks --Jim Sweeney (talk) 15:09, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- No worries, I will look at it today. It's always a work in progress, eh? --Diannaa (Talk) 15:15, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- THANKS once more --Jim Sweeney (talk) 04:52, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Hey there. Can you go over this article that's up for a GA and copy edit it as well as fix the conversions into a standard form? I've converted everything but some convert from inches to mm and vice-versa and there are some English and American terms in there. Thanks so much,--White Shadows It's a wonderful life 16:26, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- OK. Do you want to show the metric first, and convert to Imperial? Or the other way around? --Diannaa (Talk) 19:04, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Do you want to go with British or American (draught/draft, armour/armor; are there any others?)? You might like to compose some alt-text for the two photos that do not have any yet. --Diannaa (Talk) 23:18, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'd like Imperial first and in American if you can. I'll add in the alt text in a bit. Thanks :)--White Shadows It's a wonderful life 23:48, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, that is all done. Did they actually use metric or Imperial measurements when building the ships? --Diannaa (Talk) 02:32, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Moralis and Gatchaman
Hi
Sorry to bother you but I think something went wrong with the lists of articles needing copyediting or something ?
I copy-edited Gatchaman (OVA) and removed the copyedit required part of the tag - [2]
For some reason Moralis then came along a little while ago and added it back in and then copyedited it - I don't know why but the copyedit required part of the tag was replaced again with the date 2008 [3]. I have posted on Moralis talk page asking him what happened.
I don't know if it was a problem with the history or that the page was not refreshed - I am a little confused about the whole thing lol
Chaosdruid (talk) 21:22, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Ok seems that he copied into word and back again [[4]] Chaosdruid (talk) 21:27, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I see words like "mighty" and "prized" which you had removed have re-appeared in the article. They must have been working on the article off-line. And now (s)he is asking for feedback, here. I see you have already spoken to them so I am taking no further action at this point. Though the article may need a wee touch-up?! --Diannaa (Talk) 23:10, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
- I had a quick look through but eyes and brain suffering so will take another once over tomorrow :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 02:39, 25 July 2010 (UTC) "Time for bed" said Zeberdee lol
- I can review it too later when I am not so busy. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 02:44, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the copy edit of Albany, New York! Would you be interested in copy-editing Union College (New York)? That's another good one that could use another pair of eyes. Thanks! upstateNYer 01:38, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Word counts
Working on copy edits and my page word count isn't working anymore. Are you having a problem? Don't know what to do. Cindamuse (talk) 09:10, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Are you using the Modern skin right now? That is the only one you have it installed on. Try using Monobook or Vector skins; I had it working fine on both of those. You can always switch skins again next week when the drive is over. You could also try clearing your browser cache (F5 or Control-F5 on Windows). If all else fails you can paste your articles into Word and get it to provide the word-count. Hope this helps. --Diannaa (Talk) 20:37, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Image removed from Rajput
What is wrong with image File:Rajlogo.jpg which removed from Rajput? You only corrected citation earlier which was quite okay. This image is there for last six year without any dispute at home page at one of the oldest and leading Rajput discussion group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rajputworld with image source reference http://xa.yimg.com/kq/groups/12125144/homepage/name/homepage.jpg?type=sn . This Rajput article was once wrestling battle with many vandalism editing which you User:Diannaa succeeded in crafting it at quite good level.--Mcbapu (talk) 04:45, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for providing the source for the image. I am moving this discussion to the talk page of the article so others are aware of it. --Diannaa (Talk) 04:53, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- Okay but that old image too was created by me and was placed there on Yahoo group with out any commercial or whatsoever interest but simply to depict Rajput related picture to décor content overall. If it is confusion for letter RW or promoting again any group say Yahoo or any one else then in that case new image [File:Wikirajlogo.jpg] is created and placed with letter Wiki. I believe any Rajput related content without showing sword and shield will be like car without tyres. It must have some such picture to décor its mood. Sword Khanda (sword) and shield is synonym to word Rajput. Don’t treat this as vandalism but to add some thing appropriate. You can create opinion debate for deletion if it is offensive or objectionable to any one.--Mcbapu (talk) 07:36, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
- I have replied on the article talk page. --Diannaa (Talk) 13:35, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Backlog elimination drive
Hi. Judging by how many articles are still left in the 2008 backlog, should we extend the elimination drive into August? Thanks, TEK (talk • e-mail) 00:46, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Dusty and Mina articles
Hey, a while ago you were helping out with copyediting of the articles. Both of these have now received GA reviews stating they still lack copyediting. Could you take another look at these according to the reviews? Thanks. --Jaan Pärn (talk) 15:14, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- I will be willing to try but since I have already done them once they might be outside the scope of my skills. If that is the case we will find out soon enough and recruit more help. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 18:47, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Another backlog elimination drive...
Hi! Looking at the recent successful GOCE copyedit backlog elimination drive, I believe we can all day it was successful. I've noticed that there is another severe backlog that, like the copyedit backlog, also significantly takes away from the quality of the article. I have been attempting to eliminate some of the backlog myself, but progress is slow. Since you have experience in organizing such events, would it be possible for us to organize another backlog elimination drive for articles with a promotional tone? There currently is no group of editors dedicated to cleaning up that backlog, so a new group would have to be organized. Please tell me if you are interested. Thanks. Thank you very much for the barnstar. It was worthwhile being a part of that backlog elimination drive, and I learned a great deal of things. However, I wish I was more active in the latter part of the drive, because I kind of went off after copyediting the Musa Cälil page. Thanks again for the barnstar and the contest. GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Just a suggestion
Hello Diannaa. I noticed your recent message on the ANI page. You were quite correct to point out that 4meter4 had not informed Lisztrachmaninovfan of the posting. ANI can quickly fill up and be a monster to scroll through to find where you are being discussed. You can refine a link by connecting directly to the section header. For example Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:Lisztrachmaninovfan in this instance. Please don't get me wrong I am not saying that you did anything incorrectly. Also, you may already be aware of this I just wanted to add it to your wikiP knowledge in case you didn't. My apologies if I have caused any offense. Cheers and happy editing. What was merged? It looks like you just redirected without merging the content.--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:38, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- I see you have already decided undo my change. The content repeats the material found in the other article, but on a junior-high-school level. The format and section headers are almost the same. The talk page comments showed three different editors that felt the article had no value, and that they intended to redirect the page. For some reason this was never done, so I completed it as a merge, expecting to use some of the content in the other article, but found nothing that was not covered better in the other article. If you feel the article is valuable I have no objection to keeping it of course. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 04:51, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- No, that's fine if there was nothing salvageable, it's just better to label it as a "redirect" rather than a "merge" if there was no content transferred over. I will reundo my change but label it as a redirect. Thanks!--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:32, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

GOCE drive decisions
Hi, we need to close the discussions on the GOCE drive soon and make our final decisions on the mechanics of the drive. In particular, we need to decide on the rollover rules. I have also noticed that the lifetime totals have already been implemented. This might be problematic for us in calculating any rollover credits as this number lumps together the totals of all drives. We need to send the newsletter out by 14 or 15 August (roughly 2 weeks before the next drive starts). Would appreciate your comments and votes (either way), as I want to close off all current discussions and archive them before we start inviting 300+ editors to participate. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 01:15, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
Editing a Category Page
Diannnaa, you have a lot of experience in editing WP. And many of your edits involve the Korean War. With this in mind, can you look at this page? Thank you very much for signing up for the Guild of Copy Editors' September Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two years, to the summer of 2008! We're going to need all the help we can muster to reduce the backlog to a manageable size. We've set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog, and getting the total under 5000. To do that, we're going to need more participants. Please invite anyone you can to join the drive! Once again, thanks for your support! Yes the map is interesting, but it argues on behalf of one side of the location dispute. The other side would say the map is a lie. Thanks for asking for "pending changes protection." Even with that in place, I think someone needs to figure out what to say about the location dispute and at what length. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 21:29, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- I think there is enough material there for another article. The present article is about York, and not about the dispute, so the existing paragraph might be adequate. - The bot malfunctioned a bit at the start with indenting. I reverted the changes it made and then ran it again with the malfunction fixed. Also, a couple of users were in the list more than once, so they got the message several times. For future runs I've added a bit of code that will remove duplicates, so even if the list contains some, the bot won't deliver more than once. Apologies for the inconvenience. - EdoDodo talk 03:31, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for sending out the messages. I have sorted my list alphabetically and located the duplicate name (there was only one). Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 03:52, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
GOCE question
One question here, may seem silly, but I dont understand how to list an article as complete and then have it removed from the list? Do i manually remove it from the list of some other way to do it? (this is my first month)(Lihaas (talk) 05:54, 1 September 2010 (UTC)).
- To get the article off the list you need to remove the {{copy edit}} tag from the article. It is usually at the top of the page and looks like this: {{Copyedit|date=November 2008}} Just delete that from the article and the article will automatically be removed from the copy edit backlog list.
- The tag may be included in a "multiple issues" group of tags. That would also be at the top of the page, and could look something like this:
- {{multiple issues|article=y|cleanup=November 2008|copyedit=November 2008|npov=November 2008|primarysources=November 2008|refimprove=November 2008|verylong=November 2008}}
- In that case you should find and remove the tags for the issues you were able to resolve. This again will remove the article from the appropriate categories and their associated lists. Hope this explains everything adequately. If not let me know. Thank you for your interest in participating in this project! Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 06:08, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

New MDB Feature
Hello! I have just added a new feature to MessageDeliveryBot. It is now possible to have the message delivered on behalf of a WikiProject instead of a specific user. The user who requested the delivery will still be visible in a comment, as well as in the welcome message given to a user if the bot is creating his talk page, however, the bot's edit summary and signature will use the WikiProjects name. To use this new feature, fill in the optional 'WikiProject Name' field when making a request (leave out the Wikipedia: namespace prefix). If this field is left blank, then your username will be used to sign requests, as the bot previously did. Happy editing!

Hello, thank you very much for conducting a copy edit for me. Other then that is there anything else that you see wrong with the article? - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 22:29, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell the rest of the article looks OK. I think the only stumbling block to FA was the prose. --Diannaa (Talk) 22:43, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Hello, I was wondering if you could help me out by copyediting this article. I assume you've never seen any of these episodes, or at least a majority of them, and I believe it would be more beneficial to have someone who has never seen them cleanup some of the unneccessary details in the episode list. I'd really appreciate it if you would be willing to look over the article, as I hope to bring it to FLC in the near future. Thanks. Gage (talk) 14:08, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- No, I did not see any of the episodes. We do get this TV show but I don't watch it. I can do the copy edits in a few days once I complete other commitments. --Diannaa (Talk) 17:18, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, I also contacted User:HJ Mitchell about copyediting the article. If you can use Family Guy (season 5) as somewhat of a guide, as that is what I attempted to model the article after, that would be the most beneficial thing to do. Do try to keep the plot lengths about the same length as the fifth season article, as well. I'll try to monitor the article, and make any changes if something sifgnificant is accidentally cut. Gage (talk) 19:18, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- It looks like User:HJ Mitchell is able to start right away so I will carry on with my other articles and check in a few days to see if my asistance is still required. Regards, --Diannaa (Talk) 19:22, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- Any chance you could take a look at the article now? It's been several weeks now since I contacted HJ Mitchell, and he's only been able to copyedit the article's lead. I'd appreciate it if you could give the article a thorough look over. Gage (talk) 00:01, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

- Please don't forget about the article. Just wanted to remind you, before you leave on your trip, as I'd really like to get the article to FLC very soon. Gage (talk) 21:57, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Yet another GOCE drive question
Hi! I have signed up for the drive but am wondering which articles would be appropriate for me to edit. I've come across some that have the copy editing tag removed but which seem to still need work. I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.MindfulJen (talk) 00:24, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- I understand what you are saying. Different people will have different levels of skill for this task. Some will do a thorough professional job and others will miss even the most basic errors such as spelling or grammar errors. I think any that are seriously bad could be re-tagged. You could do this without hurting anyone's feelings by simply adding a new currently dated copy edit tag. However if you feel there are competence issues with specific editors and it shoud be reported, that is an option too. Hope this helps. --Diannaa (Talk) 00:32, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you!
Copy Editor's Barnstar | ||
I award you this Copy Editor's Barnstar for insisting on clear, comprehensible, and grammatically correct articles. Dianna, I want to thank so much for your copyedits to Saw VI. I have read this article up and down for months and thought it was as good as it could get. I feel a lot more confident in going through my first FA because of your improvement of the article. Hi
Since I have no work or anything, I thought I'd stop by and say a quick hello. I probably won't be able to do this again for a while, because school is taking up more and more of my time. In fact, it's lucky I could even say hi today. How are you? The Utahraptor's sock (talk) 21:27, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! Hope school is going well. I have been busy trying to get the Requests list caught up before my vacation. There were several that people want to nominate for FA but no one grabbed them. I ended up picking up a Chicago Manual of Style so I can help get stuff to FA. There is more to the use of commas than you ever dreamed possible. I am leaving on my trip tomorrow and will not be back till the 13th. --Diannaa (Talk) 21:52, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Do you call this copy editing? Im not sure but it seems to me like a little bit of manipulating article's information (when not concerning exactly the verbs) ;) --Aleksd (talk) 22:07, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- What you did goes a bit beyond copy editing. You added material and found sources for it, which is a disfferent task. Copy editing means we check the grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation. The work you did was great. Please have a look at the article now and see some additional changes that I made. Thank you for your question, and happy editing! --Diannaa (Talk) 22:32, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Copy edit request
Hi how you doing ? Just dropping a line in connection with a FLC Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Commando raids on the Atlantic wall/archive1 one reviewer has suggested a copy edit is required and as you have done so well for me in the past I was hoping you could look it over. As its a list there is not much prose. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 18:55, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Milhist coordinator?
The military history wikiproject will soon open the September 2010 coordinator elections to determine who among us will serve on the X Tranche, the coordinator tranche beginning 28 September of this month. The current coordinators have offered up the names of a limited number of editors who we believe would make good coordinators, and your name was included in the list. Therefore, I am leaving this message on behalf of the current milhist coordinators to encourage you to run for the position of coordinator. If you have any questions or comments about the position you are welcome to ask any members of the current coordinator tranche, we would be happy to answer your questions. Note that while this message is being left to encourage you to run for the position you are under no obligation to do so, and if you decide not to run this decision will not be held against you now or at any point in the future.

GOCE newsletter
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36. Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated. Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies. Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK, and The Raptor Let's talk. |

Apologies if you already know this, but from your post at the copyediting drive talk page I thought you might not.
If you click My preferences and then Recent changes, you'll see a checkbox called "Enhanced recent changes (requires JavaScript)". If you check that, your watchlist will take on a condensed format with all changes to one page on a single expandable line. That way popular pages won't dominate your watchlist. Why this is under Recent changes and not Watchlist, I have no idea...

I feel a lot more confident in going through my first GA because of your improvements of the article. Thanks again for all the painstaking work!— Zuggernaut (talk) 23:16, 22 September 2010 (UTC) |

--Diannaa: Sorry, but I don't understand. I feel that this website is relevant and interesting and I'm not just trying to help them sell a merkin. I could add it to the external links instead as the guidelines you referenced suggest, but someone before me tried to do that and it was removed for "advertising".
Is it unfair to link to them just because they happen to be selling merkins? This site lets readers see merkins that are made of real hair, which is something wikipedia doesn't currently have. If you can find a better source for merkins made of real hair, I am fine with that, but this site was the best I could turn up and it seems interesting that someone is trying to sell them. Also, I thought this is a good thing to include too, but I'm not going to bother contributing in the future if everything I try to submit gets shot down.

Third Anglo-Maratha War
Just wanted to check with you if using images from this 1901 book (such as the ones on pages 92-96) would be WP:COPYVIO?

Thank you VERY much.
That individual is a very old, sick, pathetic man in Chicago who lashes out at those who've blocked him here. Different sort of vandal than the usual bored adolescent, I'm afraid. He has no computer of his own and I and others have blocked all of his known IPs. So, he has to use proxies to spew his bile. He's been at me for the last six weeks. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:01, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

- Me like your new toy. I gotta download that one of these days and play along. In the meantime, I've blocked both of his most recent proxy ranges and semi-protected my talk page. Poor old guy thinks that in blocking him, others can't edit this site. Uh...no proxy can edit the site. Sad. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:18, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

- The scary thing is that of the 11 I've written, that one is the longest. At 800 words or something. (On a more general note, am I the only one that really thinks their own writing sucks, yet wouldn't think that about a similar ability of writing from someone else?) Snow White
http://www.fln.vcu.edu/grimm/schnee_dual.html http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schneewittchen
It says on a college website and the German page for Schneewittchen that it was the lung and liver that the hunter was to bring to the evil queen. So quit reverting my correct edits or change the German page and all of the other languages that say lung and liver. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.205.82.230 (talk) 04:11, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Results newsletter, awards, etc.
Hi, do you need help with giving out the awards, etc.? Also, where is the final newsletter being staged? I don't think we should include all the awards in the newsletter anymore as we have had complaints in the last drive that the newsletter was way too long. Give me a holler if you need a hand. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 14:10, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
The newsletter is on a subpage here. If you could look it over that would be great. If we are not going to add the barnstar winners it is pretty much ready to go. The Utahraptor was going to send it out using the bot. Thanks.
I have begun to collect the info for the barnstars on a subpage here. What needs to happen next is to list under each user what all barnstars they qualified for (both for word count and from the leader board) and to calculate their new rollover words and toThese steps have now been done so we can begin to hand out the barnstars.I have noted special barnstars and 10K barnstars. I have done a few at the top to give you an idea of the layout I had in mind. Then when we hand out the barnstars we can tick them off as {{done}}.If you would like to move forward on completion of these calculations today in your spare time, that would be great. I can then get some real-life stuff caught up.Thanks. --Diannaa (Talk) 16:18, 1 October 2010 (UTC)- So, are we not adding the barnstar stats, then? If not I'll get the newsletter ready for delivery. - I almost have the barnstar page ready, and we could link to it. It will take about 15 more minutes. --Diannaa (Talk) 23:44, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
