About Me

edit

I'm Shahid (शाहिद), a young contributor originally coming from India. My biggest interests on Wikipedia are Hindi cinema, and anything related, and cinema in general. Where films are concerned, my first love is Hindi cinema. I'm a film buff so I naturally enjoy Hollywood films too and do admit that the majority of them are far more progressive and innovative in terms of writing and technique.

I have many favourites in film. Since this might give you a wrong impression, I'm happy to make it clear that I'm not here to glorify my favourites. I'm totally against any kind of POV, and throughout my time on WP have constantly fought to maintain the neutrality of articles I edit. I always try to keep myself fair-minded and unbiased, and that's the approach I would expect from fellow editors. I generally work on different articles, but I'm mainly interested in improving Bollywood-related pages. When I joined WP, they used to be of incredibly poor quality where writing is concerned. But with time, many great editors have joined the project and today there are several high-level articles, which I look at and can be only proud of.

My work on Wikipedia includes:

  • Creating [and usually writing] film and actor articles, as well as lists, templates, cats etc.
  • Cleaning up film-related articles
  • Expanding film-related articles
  • Keeping an eye to fight vandalism anywhere.

There are several editors whose work and goodwill I have come to highly appreciate over the past decade - they include Rossrs, Plumcouch, Grenavitar, Dr. Blofeld, Dwaipayanc, among others.

I am a big fan of proverbs and old sayings, I believe if every person read one of these at least once a day, their proportions would be different. Anyway, some of mine are placed here. If you have anything of value to offer, please do and I'll add them.

December 23, 2008: The day Zinta's article featured on Wikipedia's Main Page as "Today's featured article".
  • Dimple Kapadia is one actress I quite like. When I looked at it in September 2011, the thought of expanding it and turning it into something decent seemed far from reach, considering most of her work had happened so long ago and the lacking amount of online sources, but in spite of this I managed to take it from this sad stub to something more reasonable within four days. But it was not enough for me, and in December the same year I returned to editing it and, having done greater research this time around and without even realising the progress I was doing, within less than a month I managed to produce this result, which honestly I'm very proud of. To write an article on a film actress most of whose work and popularity happened so many years ago, especially when nothing much from those years is available online, required a lot of reading and digging in the archives, and that's why I loved the process. This was followed by my taking a long wikibreak during which my friend Blofeld as always came to the help of a friend to complete the uncompleted and nominated it for a GA after polishing it up a little more. I resumed work on the page in 2020 - the FACs were a challenging task but I really like this article now and it's finally an FA (passed in February 2021).
  • Shefali Shah is an Indian acting talent who, after years of character parts, gained worldwide recognition following her lead role in the crime series Delhi Crime, but I've appreciated her work ever since I first saw her many years ago in a number of films. I came across the article in March 2022, and was quite surprised at its poor state considering her body of work and recent popularity. I started work on it right away, and after a short wikibreak, returned to expand it in September. In October that year the outcome resulted in another promotion at FAC. This was the first FA article on an Indian actor who isn't a leading commercial star, so after Kapadia, it was another challenge. With her talent and résumé, she definitely deserves a featured article on WP.
  • I've been the main contributor of the Preity Zinta article. My history with the article was long!! My biggest dream was always to make it FA. But it was not an easy task; it was actually the opposite! It was first listed as GA, thanks to the help of Blof, and later approved as A-class biography article. However, its FAC turned out as a whole mess - it failed, and was delisted from GA. That was tough, but then, thanks to the help of Dwai and John, it was improved further. But there was no end to obstacles, and even after taking a peer review, it did not get listed as GA, and we had to start a GA reassessment to make it GA. Following that, after further work, copyedits and improvement, I thought it was time to face another FAC, but because of what had happened before, I thought it would be better to take another PR to be sure. And the second long FAC, which at some points seemed to be heading towards the same results as its previous one, it passed FA!!! After months of work, two GANs, two PRs, and two FACs (and many discussions in different noticeboards as well), it finally passed FA on May 27, 2008!!! Preity Zinta is the first Indian actress who received her FA on Wikipedia and was featured on the main page. Many more came after this, and it's nice to know this article might have inspired other editors to work on other articles on Indian actors.
