Unclear on how to access and edit the data field containing that typo, that appears under the article name in the search results for Samuel Johnson. Does fixing it require a namespace change? YarLucebith (talk) 23:00, 22 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Like many wealthy white colonists of the period, he was also a slave owner and slave trader.
The very wording shows that this is not a notable statement. It has been tacked-on to the lede, obviously by a self-appointed diversity editor who does not understand that the lede is meant to summarise the article (where this statement is not represented.) Agreed. A separate section rather than a far overlong polemical footnote would better address the rather complex issue of Johnson and slavery with better citations than the one here. Johnson taught black members of his congregation in special classes for thirty years when they were ignored by rival churches, and befriended the Rev. Philip Queque, the first African to be ordained as a minister by the Church of England, sending him letters of encouragement. If a section on the subject is created, it should include not only his owning domestic slaves "like many of the period" but his unusual for the period desire to educate them both in Stratford and in Africa. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harrycroswell (talk • contribs) 22:45, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
Re: categories. Johnson was a slave owner not a slave trader. He died in 1772 and was a British subject all his life.Reply
