In the intro, where it mentions Florida bordering Cuba, please mention that this is a maritime border. In the Geography section where it mentions that “Florida is west of the Bahamas and 90 miles (140 km) north of Cuba”, please adjust the latter part to “and its southernmost part is 90 miles (140 km) north of Cuba”. Florida is big and thus this needs to be specified. 108.147.171.11 (talk) 15:35, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Alternative suggestion for lead

edit

As an alternative to the requested edit above, I suggest: "Florida is separated from Cuba to the south and the Bahamas to the east by the Straits of Florida. The narrowest part of the Straits between Florida (at Key West) and Cuba is 93 miles (150 km) wide, and the narrowest part of the Straits between Florida (at Miami) and the Bahamas (at Bimini) is 50 miles (80 km) wide." Discuss. - Donald Albury 21:30, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is even better. 2600:100C:A211:7F18:ECAA:B268:C695:38E6 (talk) 02:24, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sister States

edit

What does the "Sister States" section do? Nothing on it feels related to Florida at all. Should we delete/disable it? Loymdayddaud (talk) 04:00, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Florida is dying?

edit

Not sure we can use this directly, but looks useful.[1] Doug Weller talk 15:25, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

As sympathetic as I am to his viewpoint, it is an opinion piece. One point that bothers me is the fuss he makes over that 101 F temperature reported from Manatee Bay in Dade County last year. Manatee Bay has so little connection to open sea water that its measured salinity ranges from 14 ppt to 45 ppt. Yes, water temperatures have been rising. But Manatee Bay is not representative of open sea water. Donald Albury 17:18, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
True. I agree in itself it’s useless. Maybe useful for finding good sources? I was going to post this to you but of course you’d have this on your watchlist. Doug Weller talk 18:20, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
