Thanks for the welcome

[edit]

Thank you for your warm welcome and contributions on the city homicides article.

I don't know what I've done but Johannesburg on the 90's section has come out all bloated and the years with those things you click doesn't look right. If I don't manage to fix it in the meantime would you help us out? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarcastic Sid (talkcontribs)

Good job

That looks fine now. Yeah keep the clickable things.

I was informed earlier today about a bug in IE6. I've since fixed it per the suggestion and IE6 is working fine again. Where is the black rectangle at the bottom of this image coming from? --soum talk 09:25, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like flowed text, which MediaWiki hates. Try converting it to regular text (if you want it there) or deleting it altogether (if it was an accident). Ironic, I was just looking at your talk page, clicked on my watchlist and got a message from you. — Alex(U|C|E) 09:28, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you don't like serif text you can always specify Arial as the font. Inkscape uses sans-serif text by default (if nothing is defined), but MediaWiki uses serif text. — Alex(U|C|E) 09:29, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks. :-) Feel free to ask me for SVG-related help any time. — Alex(U|C|E) 10:07, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, seems like OrphanBot doesn't like you. ;-) — Alex(U|C|E) 10:08, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A bit off-topic: you think this deserves an article? It's a concept of a business center. I know forums can't be used as sources, but I just wanted to show you. :-) — Alex(U|C|E) 10:18, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is a bit similar to the Moscow-City project. I'll have to do more research on it, but it will be a great accomplishment once it is complete. — Alex(U|C|E) 10:31, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User page spam

[edit]

I have declined speedy on the user page. Its not anything promotional or advertisement. Barring the notability criterion, its otherwise okay. And since the notability clause does not apply to user pages, I think a chance a be given to the users to sort it out rather than deleting it on sight.

Wrong. Criteria for speed deletion #G11 - note that "G" stands for "general", as in "all pages" -- says "Blatant advertising. Pages which exclusively promote a company, product, group, service, or person and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic." Besides, spam pages disguised as user pages are deleted all the time: constantly, in fact. These ones are just from the last few months. FYI. --Calton | Talk 12:03, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have missed the reason I declined it. Nope, didn't miss a thing, since it was, you know, factually incorrect. Hint: what your local record/CD sells is also referred to as "product", and those being flogged by garage bands are, in fact "run-of-the-mill products". If you think otherwise, you're not really paying close attention. And yes, every one of that last batch were band pages. Note multiple admins doing the deletions. --Calton | Talk 12:55, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy delete?

[edit]

If a speedy-deletion template is placed on a page, is the creator of the page allowed to blank the page and template? -- :) Chetblong 16:08, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rank column on city homicides list?

[edit]

Hi there.

Can you number the wikipedia sortable from 1 to 50 in a 'rank' column that comes before the 'city' one? A lightbulb appeared over my head telling me to only include areas where homicide is 'known' to be most endemic and/or where it's reasonably recorded, otherwise the list will go on forever and many places which apparently have very low murder rates simply don't bother keeping records anyway. A prime example is Pakistan on the national homicides list having the lowest homicide rate.

Cheers. Sarcastic Sid 16:44, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rank thing

[edit]

Well when I've looked at the List of countries by homicide rate article the places are ranked in order of their last recorded figure of a particular decade and that's what I've done. So on the List of Metropolitan Regions by Intentional Homicide Totals :p is it possible to put a 1-50 rank thing before the city column based on the 1999 figures on the 90's list for example? Sao Paulo would be ranked 1, Rio 2, Johannesburg 3, Medellin 4, Durban 5 etc. and number it up to 50?

On the 2000s section I only have figures for Brazilian cities up to 2002 so they would be ranked on that year. I'd like it numbered and limited to 50 but I also like the clickable thing. Cheers. Sarcastic Sid 18:27, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ranking update

[edit]

Hey I've kinda managed to do it though it the 90's section goes slightly off the page. I don't know if that's the best it can look but feel free to tell us or modify it yourself.

Cheers. Sarcastic Sid 20:03, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks that looks great. I noticed you put a font-size thingie in there.

db-move

[edit]

Hello Soum, Could you explain why you reverted my {{db-move}} tagging of Caesaria? My intent was to move the redirected page over it. Did I make some mistake? TewfikTalk 17:36, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, it would be great if you could move Caesarea, Israel over the Caesaria redirect. For the future: had I put the tag at the top, would the redirect have still functioned? TewfikTalk 17:44, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, I just noticed the difference in spelling - it should actually be moved to Caesarea, and not Caesaria. Thanks, TewfikTalk 17:49, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would have taken it to RM, but if you check out the dab page, only one entry actually has Caesarea in its title (Caesarea Maritima), and that is the one located in Israel next to the modern city being discussed, and dabbed right at the top. So, I think that moving Caesarea, Israel to Caesarea would still be the ideal structure. Let me know what you think, TewfikTalk 18:00, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was an accident on my part ;-) Thanks for your help, TewfikTalk 18:11, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

your deletion of the article "Basak Senova"

We are comics

[edit]

You recently deleted an article "We Are Comics" calling it "CSD G11: Blatant Advertising" I don't know how this could be and I would like you to point out the points that were advertisements so that they may be corrected. We used a page on Wikipedia as reference so that this wouldn't happen that page is still up but yet you removed ours. Very odd how this could happen the two pages were very similar as I said we used their page as a template to design our own so that it would not come off as an advertisement yet here were are. I don't know the policy of Wikipedia giving people administrative control but I would like to know because several articles you have edited have more advertisements in them than ours yet they still remain. Please explain to us how this happened more specifically how our article had advertisements in it so we can correct it so our ad is not deleted again. You can reference the internet for all the content as we took it from our own website as many articles here have done. I am looking for an example from our article that was "Blatant Advertising" for example the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows you edited clearly is an advertisement for when that book is coming out what time you can go get it so how is that not an advertisement but our description about our company was. I could list about 100 more articles you have edited that have more advertising in them than content ours was a description of our company there was nothing in it that could be viewed as an advertisement nothing like "The book is scheduled to be released globally in English-speaking countries shortly after midnight 00:01, British Summer Time, on 21 July 2007. However, in the U.S. (which spans several time zones), it is to be released for sale within each time zone at 00:01 local time, a few hours after the other English-speaking countries" if that is not an advertisement I don't know what is! Again please let me know what we can do to fix this show me what is the advertisement if you can but I don't think you can.

Not sure how to contact you but thank you for the advice, I am sorry if you feel I was personally attacking this was not my intention I was just trying to see how our article was an advertisement's but the one I cited was not I am still not sure how they are not. Please send me the text so that I may make the changes as suggested. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WeAreComics07 (talkcontribs)

Greetings,

Could you please explain the deletion of Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers, after both Mind meal et moi took burden to denote its significance? I may have missed the reasoning that might have been posted at its talk page prior to its deletion. Thanks a bunch, Lior 16:02, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, this should be interesting. This deletion side-stepped all protocol, and will be contested. What exactly was the cause for deletion? You don't know, do you? (Mind meal 18:56, 24 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Please have a look at the additional arguments Mind meal has laid in my talk page (User talk:Lior#Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers). I'm sure he has nothing against you, he's just angry at having his work deleted. After all, neither of the three of us knows any of the others in person... Best, Lior 19:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, as User:Lior has said, this isn't personal. I just feel the entire process was skipped over and that the deletion makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. (Mind meal 20:21, 24 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I get it. He listed me on AIV. Well, I know everyone's pretty trigger-happy with blocking IP addresses, but in this case you've made a mistake. The "vandalism" I was accused of was actually repeated warnings against blanking-- I've got him up on WP:AN/3RR for the trouble. So before you weild that big block bludgeon at me, take a look at the merits here. He's the one in need of a block, not me. 24.160.241.190 10:43, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you're closing a group of WP:PW deletions. First the full list is here [2], in case you have missed any. Second, on 20/6/07 a group of PRODs were applied, I have a feeling they have all run out, the full list is on the to-do list on the project talk page, if you feel up to deleting 40 articles. DRV: Tony Rumble

[edit]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Tony Rumble. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. John Vandenberg 13:17, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Relist the inappropriate "snowball deletes"

[edit]

You closed a number of AFDs after 4 to 11 hours and after 2 to 4 people had called for deletion. WP:SNOW is no t appropriate when , in some time zones, people were asleep and really had no opportunity to comment. Not enough time, and not enough persons participating, to justify a premature closing of debate and deletion of the subject. Therefore I am requesting that you undelete and relist Tony Rumble (deleted after 4 hours and 2 Delete !votes), Glen Osbourne (deleted after 12 hours and 3 Delete !votes) , Steve Madison (deleted after 12 hours and 3 Delete !votes) Ron Hutchinson (deleted after 12 hours and 3 Delete !votes) , Jake Milliman (deleted after 12 hours and 3 Delete !votes) , Rick Fuller (deleted after 12 hours and 3 Delete !votes) , Chet Jablonski (deleted after 4 hours and 2 Delete !votes) , Steve Bradley (deleted after 4 hours and 2 Delete !votes) , and Destine (deleted after 4 hours and 2 Delete !votes). I see no benefit in deleting articles as soon as they are listed, thereby substituting the judgement of 2 to 4 editors for the many who check the listings each day. Thanks. Edison 15:02, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done, if you think others were wrongly closed, there is no need to wait for me. Just overturn and relist. I sure as hell wont mind, more so when I will be a bit irregular till 27th :) --soum talk 15:25, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Not an admin myself. These articles may be good candidates for deletion; I just like to see everyone have a chance, because I know I would hate to see articles I created or worked on snowballed thus. Edison 15:32, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocks

[edit]

Please investigate blocks before you assign them. I was lucky and able to get out from under it through a fortuitous IP change, but other editors aren't so lucky. Although the unblock template exists, there are virtually no Admins who will overturn a block by another admin, even if it is baseless. You justified the block by citing a diff of my edit of a sandbox template, which, in addition to not being vandalism, I was also warned for. The truth is, you blocked me simply because I was listed on AIV, and that's inappropriate. When you were made an Admin, it was with the expectation that you would assign blocks based on your own checking and research, not simply because someone pushy like User:King Lopez decides that I need a 24-hour block ([3]). If you're not going to do the job you were elected to well, do everyone a favor and don't do it at all. Wikipedia suffers less without you than it does when you assign spurious blocks. 24.160.241.190 18:00, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with the above post. As an administrator, you need to hold yourself to a higher standard. WP:DFTT! 24.160.247.6 09:27, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, could you respond on my talk page please? If I had wanted you to build me a userpage of your vitriol, I would have asked for it. 24.160.247.6 09:30, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
