Mandrake of Oxford

I saw you nominated Mandrake of Oxford for deletion on the grounds that

This article is not 'encyclopedic' and seems to be based on commercial-minded exposure/advertising.

This article has now been formally nominated for deletion and you now may wish to add your comments to the discussion by going to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mandrake of Oxford--SKRINE2 08:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Tired of this C***

Thought you might be interested in (and/or amused by) the following :-

From Talk:Mandrake Press

  • Summary of split/retain opinions

"I could only see one person arguing in favour of a split." Kim dent brown (Admin who rendered the final decision)

and then all of sudden GlassFET changes from a neutral position and votes with IPSOS

"Actually, if I have to choose between split or no split, I'd come down on the split side. Changing above summary." GlassFET

Are they acting in consort or what?
  • Where to go from here
I am not going to respond directly to either IPSOS or GlassFET anymore.

Kim dent brown gave some sound advice on Talk:Mandrake Press to Emnx and IPSOS

"For goodness sake the pair of you, take this discussion to one another's user talk pages and get it off this article talk page. If one of you took the decision to retain a dignified silence it would immediately make the other look like a silly ranter, but I doubt either of you will take that option..."

I'll give you one guess who made the next post. Yep! a silly ranter — but which one? I am going to leave things to the admins for now. I think more than enough has been said. It's back to dealing with vandals for me!

BTW I am based in the UK and my ISP is BT (along with around 3,000,000 other users!)

--Arthana 16:50, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi there, well I'm based in the UK too but my ISP is Orange (they're rubbish btw!). I'm sure the checkuser on my account will clear allegations up. I hadn't looked at the other Mandrake article: I saw mention of it in the Mandrake of Oxford AfD discussion but tbh I've no interest in it, or the AfD article beyond trying to clean up commercial advertisements. It seems merely holding an opposing view on this site is enough to warrant a massive case of slander...apparently. I hope the admins clear it up anyway. I've opened an RfC case on the conduct of User:IPSOS in the meantime, up at: Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/IPSOS. ColdmachineTalk 16:56, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Checkuser

I've appended comments to the Checkuser page and to the relevant Admins page. cheers for heads up!

--Arthana 12:15, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

RE:RFC check out WP:meat

The Arbitration Committee has ruled that, for the purpose of dispute resolution, when there is uncertainty whether a party is one user with sock puppets, or several users acting as meatpuppets, they may be treated as one individual.

Therefore, the ruling must inevitably be that, as the allegation is IPSOS=GlassFET as meatpuppets then GlassFET can't act as an outsider? can he? So, does that give you the right to remove his comments altogether. I am too new to all this. Can't you get some NPOV procedural advice from an admin?--Arthana 15:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Blocked

You have been blocked as a sockpuppet of User:Emnx, as shown by checkuser. You may appeal the block by placing the text {{unblock|your reason here}} on this talk page. --Akhilleus (talk) 17:26, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

I was coming to make the same block based on conclusions here: Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Emnx (3rd). Please also see WP:ANI#Mandrake_of_Oxford.--Chaser - T 17:36, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Coldmachine (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I'm afraid the checkuser only came back as 'likely' not 'confirmed'. A block is therefore inappropriate in this context. Second, the evidence is based apparently on IP range only without consideration for edit history. I have placed an account which shows several cases of simultaneous editing on the part of the users alleged as being the same individual. This is simply impossible (physically, that is). Third, the allegations were made on the basis of agreement with other users in an AfD nomination. This is circumstantial at best, libelous at worst. There appears to be some abuse of the system going on, and wiki users are being driven away from contributing. As I say though, your loss not mine. But I appeal the block on these principles. ColdmachineTalk 17:46, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Please take this up with the checkuser who blocked you, in this case it's User:Voice of All. You can email him hereSunStar Net talk 10:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Explain this one then.--Atlan (talk) 18:17, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Explain what? I opened the RfC because this user and GlassFET have been persecuting me since I opened the AfD nomination on an article they had worked on. First by 'stalking' my contributions, second by reverting several of them (I do not question the basis on which reverts were made, but the motivations of them), and third by continued false allegations of sockpuppetry. I can't speak for the other user(s) in question since I've already made it patently clear I'm distinct from them. ColdmachineTalk 18:26, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Explain why the edit summary confesses that you are the same people.--Dcooper 18:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Who knows? I didn't make that edit. Ask Athana. Perhaps it was a typo and h/she meant "I am NOT" rather than "I AM". I really don't have a clue because I DIDNT WRITE IT! Whatever, this process and the deletion of my front user page and the evidence it shows only make it patently evident that wikipedia is a hotbed of systematic abuse. Nobody has addressed my questions concerning edits made simultaneously from both accounts.ColdmachineTalk 18:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm willing to go with that theory, although it does make for a weird sentence: "I am not Enmx I am not Coldmachine." Even so, you understand that that edit summary by Athana and the IP range don't do your case any good.--Atlan (talk) 22:21, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
I know, I do appreciate that. But, to be fair, if I really was a sockpuppet I wouldn't be admitting it in such a stupid way (two MAs and a doctorate in progress should be enough to prove that!)! I'm a victim of circumstance it seems, and I think I probably jumped in to the procedures and policies of wikipedia way too early (i.e. before I understood them properly) which is probably evident from my bumbling through the AfD, and RfC and the like. Three months of editing is clearly not enough to understand how things work on here. While the AfD passed in the end, if I had known the problems it would cause I really wouldn't have proposed it in the first place. ColdmachineTalk 22:51, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
I see the unblock request was declined, but the decline is posted by a user - User:SunStar Net - who isn't actually a wikipedia administrator...is this normal/usual? ColdmachineTalk 19:46, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
It's not normal. Here's the discussion. --Dcooper 20:33, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for spotting that and for the link. I did email User:Voice of All but haven't heard anything yet. Hopefully someone will get around to looking over this. ColdmachineTalk 08:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the decline status since, as the discussion highlighted indicates, this issue is more complex owing to the 'likely' checkuser status (not confirmed) and therefore requires an administrator to review the unblock request. If you are not an administrator, please refrain from acting as such. ColdmachineTalk 21:20, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Just so you are aware!

I posted this on IPSOS talk page today. Really sorry you got caught up in this which got started when I contacted you about the PROD and then suggested you resurrect the AFD on Mandrake of Oxford. I have made several posts as an anon (but signed Arthana) to admins asking them to re-instate you. As always, institutional rush to justice seems to prevail!

This was my post : -

To IPSOS : Arthana is not Coldmachine: Arthana is not Emnx: Coldmachine is not Emnx

A grave injustice was done by circumstantial evidence. I made a typo in an edit summary and the baying mob led by you and your meatpuppet GlassFET(1) rushed to make an instant decision.

However, you picked on the wrong person when you attacked me. I have the time, the money and the desire to pay you back for what you did to Coldmachine and I!

I will be back and I am going to take you down. Be assured I will be watching both you and GlassFET (and your other cronies).

I will watch every edit you make
I will watch every delete of criticism on your talk page
I will watch every archive of your talk page
I will watch every aggressive comment you make to other editors
I will watch every time you stalk an editor who has disagreed with you
I will watch every time you revert an editor's edit whom you are stalking
I will record every time you break a rule

I will build a case against you IPSOS, it will be so strong that will get you banned from Wikipedia for ever. Not a malicious false case like you set against myself and Coldmachine but a case built on facts and real evidence. I won't need meatpuppets or sockpuppets because you are the worst sort of person on Wikipedia and you will hang yourself by your own actions.

. . . of course, all you have to do is be a good little editor and I won't have a case will I? However, Your first mistake will be to delete this from your talk page! Your second will be when you make a reply or complain about it to an admin!

Arthana (Iam not Emnx, I am not Coldmachine)
  1. As evidenced by Mandrake Press, Mandrake of Oxford, Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn and various procedural disputes, and four edit wars in the last eight weeks, etc. where you both particpated. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.134.221.209 (talkcontribs).

Hi, I appreciate that you're defending my position but I think karma will prevail and the actions of IPSOS will speak for themselves in due time when this whole situation occurs again and again with other editors who s/he disagrees with. So, I wouldn't worry or make threats against him because it'll only end up backfiring I think and you will look the aggressor. Is it really that important? I'd like to be reinstated, sure, because I didn't do anything wrong (other than be naive about the place/people on here). If people on wikipedia don't believe you and I are different, so be it. Wikipedia isn't my life :) My family, friends, and doctoral studies are, and a CV (resume) with a PhD will say vastly more than one which says "I edit wikipedia". Karma will win out, so honestly while I appreciate the gestures, don't worry :) If you're ever up in the North of England though, give me a shout! We could have a good old natter about the site :D ColdmachineTalk 11:38, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

PROOF that Arthana is NOT Coldmachine

Please go to User_talk:86.131.33.92 to see Arthana -v- Coldmachine Comparison of Edit Histories - the analysis is irrefutable proof that Arthana is not Coldmachine.

Arthana —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.131.36.104 (talkcontribs).
I read the post, thanks for that. You've trawled through more edit history than I had the inclination to do, so I hope you don't mind me copying it here on to my own talk page as evidence? If it's a problem me duplicating your work, let me know and I'll remove it.ColdmachineTalk 15:20, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
No problem at all re: the material. The more we can do to clear our names the better. Biggest problem is getting an admin to actually 'engage' the problem. So many seem to look superficially. I was astounded that a non-admin took it upon himself to review your appeal!
Also, you might find it interesting to note that GlassFET has announced on his user page he/she has gone on holiday and so, as you would expect, there's no edits being made! However, IPSOS also stopped editing a couple of days after - what sort of coincidence is that!
Arthana (--86.131.36.104 14:03, 20 June 2007 (UTC))
Yes, that is rather interesting, but nobody else will find it interesting except those who have been persistently hounded or wronged by those two editors (or one, if they're the same). One clue will be if the edit break lasts the same time for both (i.e. ~26th June). If both users have no edits during that same period then it will look extremely suspicious, you're right. Though, as I say, that won't mean anything will be done about it at all. It's circumstantial, after all, much like the evidence used to ban our accounts... ColdmachineTalk 15:20, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Evidence compiled by 'Arthana' in association with alleged sockpuppetry

The following was duplicated from the User talk page for Arthana (using an anon. IP): User_talk:86.131.33.92. I had already compiled some of this edit history for evidence during the checkuser discussion itself, but this is more comprehensive:

Then going back to the source documents, re-reading the instructions again -- and then make another attempt. Whilst all that was going on Coldmachine is making other complex edits, which presumably took him time to compose!

Citizendium

In my trawling through the web I've come across several articles on wikipedia and the problems facing the community of users here. A new project has been established at Citizendium which aims to address some of these in a more intellectual fashion. For example, users must sign up using their own name and provide biographical details which must be verifiable (by a C.V./resume, or a reputable website for example). This, in tandem with moderation of signups, are two approaches by which the farcical handling of 'sockpuppetry' allegations on wikipedia can be overcome. Rather than an online encyclopaedia which 'anyone can edit', Citizendium is rather one which 'any intelligent individual can edit'. I'll be investing some time in that, while I wait for my emails to User:Voice of All to be acknowledged and my account on wikipedia examined with actual rigour. ColdmachineTalk 13:45, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

The problem I have with providing my real name is that I am an author/editor and I would not want my ID or my wiki-habits stalked etc. Also, there are privacy implications to be considered for family etc. - (and besides - I am not sure I want everyone knowing all about me by doing a quick google search!)
Arthana (--86.131.36.104 14:46, 20 June 2007 (UTC))
Keep an eye on User_talk:86.131.33.92. It shows the uphill struggle we face with Admins and dual-evidential standards.

Chaser has abandoned the dialogue as he prefers his vague allegations to our facts. So unless the cavalry ride in at the last minute I figure we are screwed.
Arthana(--86.131.37.11 19:53, 20 June 2007 (UTC))
Not to worry in the grand scheme of things. I only wanted my name exonerated for the principle of the matter. I'm not too bothered about contributing on here really, after this; I think this situation has merely indicated how easily it is for amateurs to abuse the system by victimisation and bullying, how easy it is for false accusations to be bandied about, and how easy it is for equally amateurish individuals with no qualification or merit to reign over the administration of things. It's worth bearing in mind: just how old are these other contributors? My guess is, 'not very'. In a few years they'll grow out of such behaviour, and if they don't life will treat them accordingly. Is this really a place where you want to spend time? I don't. I'm off to Citizendium, and to writing credible articles in credible journals about wikipedia :) If you want to pass on a contact email address then you can email me via the link here: it would be nice to keep in touch!
