Slightly confused
[edit]Hey there, I'm not sure if anyone has this template watchlisted, but I'm not 100% clear on the proper usage of this template. Are we supposed to add the translated content inside the template, like:
- {{translation|The quick brown fox}}
or
- {{translation}} The quick brown fox
It doesn't seem to make any visible difference either way, so that's why I'm confused. Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:45, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb: Seems more futureproof to put it inside, so that whatever markup the template thinks it needs can be applied. I don't know if this template needs updating to put apostrophes around the quoted term, to match the {{lit}} template. --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:48, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Lord Belbury: Thanks for your input. The Indian Cinema Task Force tends to use this template to indicate translations of non-English film titles. I notice that MOS:TITLE#Translations seems to not want special formatting. I don't know what guideline {{lit}} is following. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:04, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Could a space please be added between "lit." and "transl."? I don't know of anything in MOS:ABBR that would provide for omitting the space. 207.161.86.162 (talk) 07:59, 25 December 2020 (UTC) 207.161.86.162 (talk) 07:59, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

Please edit the documentation to make it clear that the meaning
parameter should be a string surrounded by single quotes (eg 'meaning', not the current example "not is". (Per MOS:SINGLE and consistent with similar templates, such as the lit
parameter in the Template:Lang-x/doc series). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 19:11, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

- If I could have done it myself I would have done, but I am unfamiliar with the coding in
"example": "\"not is\"",
. Perhaps you or another editor could assist please. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 17:54, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Style guidelines for multiple templates
[edit]Are there style guidelines for the use of both {{translation}} and {{transliteration}} in conjunction with {{lang}}? E.g., "להד״מ (lahada"m), לא היו דברים מעולם (lo hayu dvarim meolam) - transl. such things never were, no way" -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 13:47, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
