A few corrections
[edit]There used to be a different article here. Why was it changed?
A few corrections need to be made:
- Most of the city is on the left bank, not the right bank. The university is on the right bank, not the left bank.
- A person from Niger is called a Nigerien or a Nigérien, not a Nigerian. This is an important distinction! Niger has an important "French and Nigérien Cultural Centre", not Nigerian.
- The famous tree at the Museum is spelled "Tree of Ténéré" not "Tree of Tenéré".
- Historically peanuts were once important as an export crop, but not many people grow peanuts around Niamey today. The main crop is (and always has been) millet. Rice is also grown in Niamey. But I do not know the statistics or references for what crops are grown or exported today.
Later
[edit]Ok, I've made the changes I mentioned.
This article is tiny
[edit]For a country's capital city, a stub is very poor coverage by the standards of the English Wikipedia in December 2007.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 01:41, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Truly poor photo
[edit]A city of 1.3 million people and the main photo shows some street in the suburbs??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.108.212.170 (talk) 21:04, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, that's in the center of town. But I agree. There should be a much better photo. That one is mostly shrubbery. --seberle (talk) 13:11, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Merger discussion
[edit]I think it may be best if the Niamey Capital District article is merged into this one, in line with other similar entities such as Delhi Capital Region or Bamako Region. WisDom-UK (talk) 18:45, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
