I created this page. Each of these genres deserves its own Wikipedia page, and I intend to write them. I started with this page (which is hardly complete), to be able to provide a framework in which I, and other Wikipedians, can fill in the other pages.
For the more complete pages, I intend to used more variegated sources -- a lot of scholarly literature has been written on most of these. However, for this lists, I used only E. Fleischer's reference works, because they were easy. Margavriel (talk)
I know that there is already a page devoted to piyyut in general. (It's terribly written, and mostly taken from the early 20th-century Jewish Encyclopedia, but it exists.) Nonetheless, I believe that this genre page belongs here, to link to the pages on the various genres. Information about the history of piyyut, the authors, the communities where it was recited, tunes, etc., all belongs on the main piyyut page. This page is just for listing the genres of piyyut, and giving small amounts of information about them. Margavriel (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:25, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
