The photograph is of a 12pr BL gun not a 15pr. It is clearly labelled as such in the Navy and Army Illustrated article December 20th 1895 from which it originates. David Moore 12:25, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
- I suggest the NAI caption is incorrect - this image has all the detail markers of 15 pounder : wheels, carriage, date : I went through this when I originally uploaded the image. Having said that, if there is doubt, we need an unambiguously identified photo in the article. I'll change it. Rcbutcher (talk) 14:02, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
I think that this is a good decision. The photograph was taken in August 1895, according the article in NAI. Admittedly this is the same year in which all 12prs were designated as 15prs but examining the photo in detail the carriage is certainly a Mark II for 12pr, not the Mark III or IV on which all new pattern 15prs were issued. It is safer to assume that the gun in question was constructed as a 12pr.B.L. even if it was re-designated at a later date.David Moore 12:59, 12 November 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by David Alan Moore (talk • contribs)
