[edit]

Hi there, I am acting on behalf of Stephan DuCharme and I have some suggestions to improve the page. These mainly consist of adding and updating information related to DuCharme's career, and improving the overall content on the page in respect to the issues represented by the page banner.

I have placed my additions in bold and removed text in strikethrough.

These changes are also in an article format in my sandbox. I look forward to community feedback, and working together towards the improvement of this page!

1. Lead

[edit]

What should be changed: The lead should be re-written to be shorter and updated to reflect DuCharme's departure from his previous positions.

Additionally, the section related to the DuCharme's citizenship and language skills should be moved to a new "Personal life" section as this is not lead-worthy. This new section would come after the current "Biography" section.

Reason: The current lead does not fit Wikipedia's MoS, and is out of date.

2. Infobox

[edit]

What should be changed: The "Occupation" row to be updated to reflect that these are former positions, and to include missing information.

Reason: "Top manager" is not an actual occupation that DuCharme has held, and X5 Retail Group warrants inclusion as a notable part of DuCharme's business career.

3. Biography

[edit]

What should be changed: This section looks like it was created with good intentions the current text isn't suitable for Wikipedia. It would benefit from a rewrite to improve sources, cut promotional wording and typos, and add missing information. Can this section also be renamed "Career" and split into three subsections:

  • Early career
  • X5 Retail Group
  • L1 Retail and Dia Group

Reason: Currently, this section contains out of date and irrelevant information, most of which is supported by subpar or deadlink sources. Adding subsections and renaming this to "Career" improves the structure and makes it easier for readers to quickly navigate the article. I have also expanded the roles where he had the most impact (i.e. as CEO rather than an a board member) to provide additional context.

In late 2016, L1 Retail was set up as a division of LetterOne holding company with DuCharme appointed as the fund’s managing partner. The group’s first purchase, the £1.8 billion acquisition of the UK’s largest health food retailer Holland and Barrett from the US private equity firm The Carlyle Group, was announced in June 2017.[8][9]

In July 2017, it was announced that L1 had bought a 3% stake in Spanish supermarket chain Dia, which gradually increased to just under 30% by October 2018.[10][11]

In February 2019, L1 made an offer to buy out the remaining shareholders following the group’s announcement of a €352.6m loss in 2018.[6] DuCharme led efforts to financially restructure the group to avoid potential bankruptcy and was involved in the devising of a transformation plan. @Encoded Thank you so much for responding to this request. There are a couple of copy paste errors (some mine, apologies for that) on the live page following your recent update, along with a couple of points I'd just like to check if you don't mind having a look? I have listed them here and would be very happy to do the unbolding and smaller changes myself but would prefer to stay off the article if at all possible. I've tried the Text Diff template as the citations are fine but I hope it might make the edits clearer and you should be able to just copy paste the "New" wikitext if you agree with the changes:

Here I think rather than just have the own-brand products strategy having all the emphasis, it would be good to summarise the action as "he was involved in the divising of a transformation plan", but if that isn't possible I'm happy to just cut the sentence as follows:

Option 1:

DuCharme led efforts to financially restructure the group to avoid potential bankruptcy and was involved in the quality of own brand products.
+
DuCharme led efforts to financially restructure the group to avoid potential bankruptcy, and was involved in the divising of a transformation plan.

Option 2:

Apart from these copyedits, would you mind reconsidering adding Portuguese to the languages list with the Cinco Dias I linked?

Thanks again for answering! Tashcodex (talk) 18:28, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that! It should be sorted now. I also noticed I missed out your first section of the request so I've added that too. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 09:14, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Encoded I appreciate you fixing these so quickly. I spotted two final issues with my suggestions, firstly that "divising" should be changed to "devising". Second, in the X5 Retail Group section in the sentence starting "In September 2015 ..." it should of course be "supervisory board", not the "advisory board", as the next sentence which recounts his leaving that position demonstrates. Thank you again for your help here! Tashcodex (talk) 17:36, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorted it! Sorry for taking a while to get back to you my email notifications have been playing up a bit lately. Encoded  Talk 💬 23:40, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Encoded, I have heard the ping system is a bit of a mess but I appreciate you responding. I noticed that the missing "DuCharme" in the Early career section is still outstanding (in the sentence "In 2001"), but otherwise that should be everything. @Tashcodex yeah it's not the best, works sometimes though! Sorry about that! I've put it back in. Encoded  Talk 💬 15:56, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
