Esperanto
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From French emprunter (“borrow”).
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]prunti (present pruntas, past pruntis, future pruntos, conditional pruntus, volitive pruntu)
Usage notes
[edit]Borrowing and lending can be distinguished with use of the prepositions de (“from”) and al (“to”), but it is also about as common to distinguish borrowing and lending with the compound verbs pruntepreni (literally “to borrow-take”) and pruntedoni (literally “to lend-give”) respectively. The verbs alprunti and deprunti also exist for lend and borrow respectively, but they are much less commonly used.
