kraurosis (plural krauroses)

1. (medicine) A condition of the genitals characterized by atrophy and shriveling of the skin or mucous membranes.
   • 1953, Transactions of the Southern Surgical Association:

     I believe, as mentioned by Dr. Tyrone, that in leukoplakic conditions, krauroses and other chronic lesions of the vulva, simple vulvectomy will afford practically 100 per cent prophylaxis against carcinoma.

   • 1976, Günter Waldemar Korting, R. Denk, Differential diagnosis in dermatology, page 216:

     Originally, the concept of kraurosis was established for a disease consisting of sclerosis, atrophy, and flattening of the genital profile, followed by shrinkage and stenosis of the vaginal introitus; later, the same expression of kraurosis was applied to a similar condition of the male genitals.

   • 2009, Sallie Neill, Fiona Lewis, Ridley's The Vulva, →ISBN, page 115:

     The incidence of malignancy in kraurosis or leukoplakic vulvitis recorded in the papers of Berkely and Bonney (in all, 19 cases in 10 years) was not stated but, in every case of carcinoma encountered by the authors (58 in 10 years), leukoplakic vulvitis was present.
