Lithuanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Traditionally derived from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (“to shine”), and compared with Ancient Greek λεύσσω (leússō, “to see, consider”), Proto-Slavic *lučìti (“to happen”). However, the acute tone in the Lithuanian is unexpected and difficult to explain.[1]
