From Proto-Balto-Slavic *kraujas, from Proto-Indo-European *krewh₂- (blood of a wound). Cognate with Old Prussian crauyo, Proto-Slavic *kry, Sanskrit क्रविस् (kravis), Greek κρέας (kréas).[1]
