Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *kroj (“shellfish, shell”). From the same root derives 螺 (OC *roːl, “aquatic snail”).
Perhaps related to Proto-Mon-Khmer *kloʔ (“snail, shellfish”) (Schuessler, 2007).
