Inspiration

Lack of appropriate communication through education or familiarity of language can lead to common traps and/or mistakes that many of us make. Examples of these mistakes may include misinterpreting a facial/body gesture, words or phrases that may carry different meanings in another language or culture. Now our culture has shifted to a Work-from-Home one, where in many scenarios we need to interact with people coming from different places carrying different native lingos. Adapting this has become a great mess now.

What it does

Introducing Pronounce — an app which helps you to speak around the world! Pronounce helps people learn different languages and accents in a fun and interactive way. At present Pronounce provides 12+ languages to get started! & you could just learn how to pronounce and make sentences so that you can express your thoughts to the person in front of you & yes, it's very very accurate!

Speak around the world with Pronounce! ✈️

How we built it

Pronounce is crafted with ❤️. It's build on Reactjs. We are using Google's Text to Speech API and Google's NLP kit to analyze the inputs and throw the speech from text strings. The feeding are then analyzed via Google's NLP kit for better score rating & last but not the least, it's deployed on a free tier of Vercel, so that it can be accessed by people around the world for free, forever across both PC or mobile!

Challenges we ran into

We took a lot of time configuring and setting up the NLP kit. Moreover, for some browsers like Safari it wasn't working previously, so we had to refactor a few other things to get settled! Also, it was a bit difficult for us to collaborate in a virtual setting but we somehow managed to finish the project on time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of finishing the project on time which seemed like a tough task initially but happily were also able to add most of the features that we envisioned for the app during ideation.

What we learned

A lot of things, both summed up in technical & non-technical sides. Also not to mention, we enhanced our googling and Stackoverflow searching skill during the hackathon 😆

What's next for Pronounce

We just really want this project to have a positive impact on people's lives! Still, we would love to include many more features like score tracking, multiplayer feature etc. so that the user experience improves & hence the interaction increases to a great extent :)
