Happy New year 2017

Merry Yuletide to you! (And a happy new year!). I hope a year full of health and wealth accompanied by plenty of plenty good wishes for you and your family. Sorry for the delay! --Mhhossein talk 13:05, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Repeated violations by user

I have noticed that Debarghya89 repeatedly uploads copyrighted images to commons as "self work", where as they can clearly be found by reverse image searching and does not contest when it's nominated for deletion. Should be warned or banned? Coderzombie (talk) 06:03, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

I've given them an official final warning. If they upload further copyvios, report them for blocking to COM:ANB (I'm not an admin any more). lNeverCry 07:30, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, INeverCry. Sad to see you go as an admin. You were a tireless cleanup admin. Coderzombie (talk) 11:19, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Want to check a deleted file

Could I please ask you to email me a copy of the deleted file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Indian_radio_license.jpg - I need to check if it got copied into some other archives without attribution. Will send you an email where you can sent it. Thanks in advance. Shyamal L. (talk) 02:50, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

@Shyamal: I resigned as an administrator a couple weeks ago. You can post a request at COM:UDEL or COM:AN to talk with some current administrators. lNeverCry 04:08, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Admin request/Images of Mr Patriotic

User:Mr Patriotic was blocked indefinitely because of being "cross-wiki-image-file-pov-pusher" (what a word...) But his images remained here and will spread out slowly again. I have checked the images, all the flags are completely fictional (and the two maps are useless POV). Could you delete them speedily, or does it a long-lasting formal DR?--Antemister (talk) 13:56, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

@Antemister: I resigned as an admin before Christmas, so this will probably require a DR. lNeverCry 19:55, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Why did you delete this file? The log inadequately explains the reasoning and links to another deleted file. Dustin (talk) 01:09, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

I resigned as an admin a couple weeks ago. I can't see or restore the deleted file/s, so I can't really give you a worthwhile answer. You can ask about this deletion at COM:AN or COM:UDEL. lNeverCry 01:14, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
Ah, that's a shame. I may try to use one of those venues when I find the time to do so. Thanks for the response. Dustin (talk) 21:52, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Flooding

Aloha! Hope you're safe, sound, and dry? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 03:17, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Well, we've had snow and rain, and some flooding around Reno, but I'm riding it out in my chair mostly... lNeverCry 19:52, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Good to see you back! Email got returned, do I need to attach a floating device? ;-) Stay safe! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 20:20, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
I was going to create a new email due to spam from signing disability-related petitions to Congress and others, but I changed my mind after realizing just how many sites I use this email address for, and that the new address would turn into a spam-trap over time anyways. lNeverCry 20:28, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Gotcha. Same here, I use one for commons only, others for general surfing. I use a different provider and address style for banking stuff. That reminds me, I need to change my passwords again, the 4 weeks are over. Argh, what a drag. I really like the Yahoo feature of throwaway email addresses. I use that a lot and when I get too much junk I just delete this one email and done. Did you get a lot of nasty emails while being admin here? --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 21:21, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
I hardly got any nasty emails, especially considering how active I was. Now I'm just waiting for the time to come when my deletions are so far in the past that nobody asks me about them any more... lNeverCry 22:48, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Not going to happen. I set a reminder for next year on my calendar to ask you about a few! :-P --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 03:29, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

undeletions

Hello INeverCry! How's going?

I wanted to ask if I can undelete the images in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Ruislip Gardens per the guidelines in Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012_in_Italy/MiBAC and consequently add the template Italy-MiBAC-disclaimer, or if it is better to open an undeletion request, asking others to decide. Thanks! --Ruthven (msg) 14:03, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I have no objection to restoration, and I'm happy trusting to your judgement. lNeverCry 19:59, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Wasn't totally uncontroversial as far as I remember. I'd create an UDR to have a record for the undeletion. 0:) Just my 2¢. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 20:27, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
I'll do, thanks to you both. --Ruthven (msg) 13:45, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi again, I received an OTRS ticket for File:SSY.jpg. But I would like to be sure why exactly the file has been deleted; do you remember it? Thank you! --Ruthven (msg) 17:05, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

No, I did 10s of 1000s of no permission deletions. All that tells me is that some one tagged it for no permission and the 7 days ran out. lNeverCry 20:04, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. I received an answer on another image of this set, so we are headed toward an undeletion with the ticket's permission. Have a nice day! --Ruthven (msg) 13:51, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Please revert file move

Please move File:Ford Fiesta MK VI.jpg back to File:Ford Fiesta MK VII.jpg, the reasoning given by the editor was incorrect. VI was used for the goth generation and VII for the sixth generation (the photo is of the latter). Bidgee (talk) 22:23, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

@Bidgee: I wish I could, but I'm a former admin just like you, so I can't delete the redirect... lNeverCry 22:26, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
@Bidgee: ✓ Done. INC, why is your talk page semiprotected? -mattbuck (Talk) 22:44, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
@Mattbuck: The protection is against attacks and harassment from LTA sockmaster LouisPhilippeCharles. My pages at es.wiki, uk.wiki, en.wiki, ru.wiki, and Meta are also protected for the same reason. He harassed me at my talkpages on those projects numerous times making personal attacks and repeatedly asking for my email address. He's targeted me and Elcobbola for quite a while (probably 6 months so far) since we've been the most involved in blocking him. He's also harassed Courcelles and others. He's still been active using IP socks within the past month, so I would ask that you allow the semi-protection to remain. lNeverCry 22:52, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Your comment on my rights request

Hello, I would like to consult a couple doubts I have about Commons with you. You suggested doing up to 500 edits on Commons, to give admins proof of my good faith and skill as an editor in this wikiproject. However, I don't know where to start, aside from uploading more policies-abiding files (like the three pictures I have already submitted). Therefore, I would appreciate your help in guiding me through my first steps here, be it uploading files or editing the categories/info of existing ones (I'm afraid I'm a bit too much pressed for time, so patrolling new uploads is not feasible for me right now). Thanks for your attention.--Ad crumenam (talk) 21:55, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

My suggestion would be to help with sorting images at Category:Media needing categories if/when you have time. You can quickly find and categorize images, and there are well over a million files needing attention. You can also nominate out of scope images (like unused profile shots) for deletion, or tag copyright violations for speedy deletion. Here are some basic deletion rationales you can use: User:INeverCry/Stuff. I'm not an admin anymore, but I'm still #1 in user right changes. I used to look for editors with roughly 500 to 1000 edits and no record of problems. If you're not doing a decent number of edits, the autopatrol right really isn't saving patrollers any time. I can mark 10 or 20 edits as patrolled in a minute or two. But don't feel bad, nobody on Commons would get autopatrolled with 10 edits. Sometimes we autopatrol admins from en.wiki and WMF employees more quickly, but even they usually have at least a few hundred edits. lNeverCry 22:50, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Moratorium on admin actions

Hi INeverCry; it has been brought to my attention that your sysop privileges have been restored by @AFBorchert without the usual wait of at least 24 hours and despite what appears to be quite significant community opposition, with a current tally of five votes in favour and six opposing. I am actually quite surprised that you had your admin bit restored so soon—as you will be aware, the usual procedure up to this point was for bureaucrats to give the community at least 24 hours' time to voice their opinions—and in light of the oppose votes, I would like to suggest that you refraing from taking any admin actions until this situation is resolved in full but continue contributing to Commons as a regular user.

I understand that you probably never thought you'll find yourself in this sort of situation—and I imagine it must be quite uncomfortable—however I believe this is the right course of action at this time. I know there are voices calling for you to resign and apply for adminship again through an RfA, but I would suggest that you go through a confirmation RfA instead—and then we'll take appropriate action depending on the outcome of the vote. What say you? odder (talk) 13:47, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

You know that I do good work with DR and CSD. I don't think you would really be concerned about my working in those areas going forward. I'll be making a more complete statement on BN soon. lNeverCry 17:09, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
INC, the problem is that although there are admin areas where you are no doubt sorely missed and are competent, productive, and cause no trouble, there are other areas (especially blocks and unblocks of long-term users) where you cause no end of trouble. We do not have an "Admin for files only" status. You're either a full admin, with all the powers that permits, or you aren't. And plenty people promise one thing on RFA and later inevitably do another. So please consider with your past record, and your previous statements of your own unsuitability, whether you genuinely can be trusted to handle all admin areas. If not, please do not insult us by asking for an RFA where you yet again promise to keep out of trouble -- you've done that many times and each time fail. To be honest, I think the cleanest, least painful thing for both you and AFBorchert, is to resign again and admit you should not have broken the promise you made that your resignation was final. A de-admin or RFA is very likely to be highly divisive and hurt. -- Colin (talk) 18:18, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
I just spotted your statement on BN. Very disappointing. -- Colin (talk) 18:21, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
INC, you've been asked by odder not to perform admin actions. Yet you are deleting files. Please recognise that your restoration of admin bit does not currently have community approval. Odder has suggested an RfA but you seem to request a de-admin. So be it. -- Colin (talk) 18:25, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
The removal and re-adding of my bit was self-requested. If you or someone else wants to start a desysop then do so. The case against me for a desysop isn't really all that strong IMHO. I think it possible that the community would vote to keep me as an admin. We'll see. Until then, I'll use the tools I have in conformance with Commons policies. lNeverCry 18:34, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Removal of rights

As you have seen, I had filed a request on Meta on behalf of the whole bureaucrat team to have your admin privileges removed here on Commons, if only temporarily. As I wrote in that note, given the nature in which your admin rights were reinstated, we believe it is within our bureaucrat discretion to be able to reverse that decision. Consequently, I called for a vote on the bureaucrats-commons mailing list, and we reached an almost unanimous decision (with 9 votes in favour and 1 oppose) to request that stewards reverse the decision. We feel it would be best for the Commons community if you re-applied for the sysop permission through a regular RfA to guarantee community consensus to have you continue serving the project as an administrator—if you choose to do so. Thanks, odder (talk) 00:13, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

@Odder: Ha ha! I don't have a ghost of a chance at an RFA, and I know it. Today's few hundred deletions will probably be the last I do, but I had some fun, so that's OK. Just please go easy with AFBorchert. This whole thing should be on me not him. I'm the one that made the request and used the tools. I'm the one responsible. I would hate to see AFBorchert get in trouble because of me. lNeverCry 00:35, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello INeverCry,

Do you think the designs of the images in this category is too complex? It's not own work, it's from a TV show called Naruto. -- MCMLXXXIX 03:55, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

I think these are OK. Most, if not all, of the elements are not original. You could post at COM:AN for a 2nd opinion. lNeverCry 04:10, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Deletion: File:Bill Winters on the San Antonio Gunslingers.jpg

Hi,

So this is the second time this photo has been deleted and I am unsure why. It is the property of Bill Winters. It was taken by his coach Mike Barry with Bill's camera. It was not a team promotion picture as asserted. I need this photo to be on the page, as I am handling the technical side for Bill, but essentially he is making the page with his own materials. Please let me know what I need to do in order to make this photo stick. I have read the policies regarding copyright, and listing it as his own product seems most appropriate. I have other photos of his I need to upload and I do not want to repeatedly have this problem. Is it just a matter of putting this information somewhere when uploading it?

I would appreciate any advice you could give me in regards to this.

Thanks and best, Delfry88 (talk) 01:33, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Arbitrary decisions

Hi. I am very sorry to inform you that you closed arbitrarily the discusssions Commons:Deletion requests/Category:PKK terrorism (2016) and Commons:Deletion requests/Category:Kurdish terrorism. Your identical edit summaries in the "Deletion log" shows a personal stand towards the categories. I must remind you that people who close these discussions should only act according to the discussion, not their personal view: It is very clear in the case of the first category that I noted there that I would write my opinions only pending administrative action about some personal attacks directed to me. My edit summary there shows more than clearly that I was going to present my views "today", on the 14th day of discussion. Aren't discussions supposed to last two weeks? As far as I can remember two weeks are 14 days, not 13. On the other hand, the discussion on Category:Ships on lake Constance was not closed, after months, while there is little or no discussion. What was the hurry to close these two interrelated discussions and delete the categories? While we have a Category:Terrorist incidents by ETA, what is the problem with having similar categories for PKK? Is the problem saying "terrorist attacks" instead of "terrorist incidents"? I know both cases well: PKK terrorism and ETA terrorism. When ETA places a bomb somewhere, it informs the public -or the police directly- shortly before the explosion to save human lives. (One exception happened at the 2006 Madrid–Barajas Airport bombing but later they apologized, possibly because they had made a calculation error and thought no-one would die in a parking lot, unaware that two people were sleping inside a car waiting for an arrival.) As opposed to this, when PKK places a bomb they claim "TAK" has done it. (Of course everybody knows that TAK is a nickname for PKK but that is another issue. Just as is exploding a bomb at a Kızılay bus stop, where only an empty police midibus is stationed, and call it a "police station" while killing the bypassers and bus commuters, at the heart of Ankara, Turkey's capital. What I am trying to say here is that if we can use "terrorist incidents by ETA", we can easily use "terrorist attacks by PKK". We are talking about "incidents" that kill one or two people in a decade and "attacks" that kill tens of people several times in a year! I wish you visit Turkey, save your life for minutes in one or two of these terrorist attacks realized in the hearts of our major cities like Ankara, Istanbul, Diyarbakır, Izmir, Kayseri, Gaziantep... and understand us, a little bit. Returning to the issue of categories, as I said at the Commons:Deletion requests/Category:Kurdish terrorism I do propose, agree and accept we can replace "Kurdish" with "PKK" (although PKK is a Kurdish organization, alas) but when we have categories for ETA terrorism (ETA terrorists are pre-kinder students compared to PKK terrorists, IMHO) and not for a terrorism which is more cruel, wider, has caused more victims is unacceptable. The way to solve this issue is to discuss here, in Commons, not to avoid it. My personal feelings has nothing to do with my "views"; if anyone tries to discredit them with allegations of performance here or there (those are personal attacks, my dear admin) you can invite them to see this. I am very disappointed with your attitude... Take care and have a good day. --E4024 (talk) 08:19, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

INC is no longer an admin but please allow me to explain. The armed branch of the PKK is a tricky one. There is no general consensus among countries that they are a terroristic organization. This makes it difficult to judge if an attack by the PKK really is terrorism or rather armed resistance against a suppressor.
Also, it is quite uncertain if attacks are committed by the PKK or someone else and it is hard to know who to believe. This makes it very hard to maintain category’s like this one and the represent a certain point of view. Therefor it is imo justifiable to delete those cats. A cat that expresses a point of view and has questionable content doesn’t serve the purpose of a category. You are free to disagree of course. If you still want to appeal this deletion you can always go to com:UNDEL. Natuur12 (talk) 13:41, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
One more thing. The edit in the deletion log isn't created by hand but is something done by the software. It's merely a copy of the text listed in the deletion template and has likely nothing to do with INC's point of view. Natuur12 (talk) 13:47, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Natuur12 is absolutely right. I performed these deletions purely in the interest of being as neutral as possible. lNeverCry 18:51, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Then I have nothing else but to congratulate you...--E4024 (talk) 07:01, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Rename

Hej! Regarding this renaming operation: once again, what was perceived as a spelling error was actually correct. Given that the uploader wrote the description in German (Beschreibung: Lotuseffekt - Wasser perlt an einem Lotusblatt), it stands to reason that the file name was in German as well. Effekt was not wrong, it was merely not in English. Renaming was not necessary, in my opinion. Richard 10:36, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diligence
Despite being your critic sometimes, I'm sad to see you leaving Commons. You are one of the few people who tirelessly work for the community and quickly admit and learn from mistakes. I hope that there would be more admins like you. Unfortunately, this is rare. I am wishing for the users you nominated as an admin to be like you as well. This barnstar is my sign of your hardworking contributions while you were an admin. Poké95 04:28, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi, could you update template licensereview of File:05- Francisco Díaz Fierros.webm? Thanks! --Elisardojm (talk) 21:30, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

No. I reverted my speedy tag because I saw the CC note in the permission field, but I don't see the CC license at that source, and I don't speak the language, so I'm going to have to leave reviews of material from that source to another reviewer. lNeverCry 21:34, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Bureaucrats and backlogs

The bureaucrats on this project are really bad leaders. Terrible. I cut the 900+ file license review backlog down to 400 in one day today! I kept deletion backlogs down to a few days. We have some hateful, holier-than-thou admins and editors around here too. Bad people. Vengeful and nasty people. There are some very good ones, but they get pushed back because they understandably want to avoid bullying ANI/Arbcom-type drama. The 27 people who supported me in my re-admin got robbed! Robbed right out in broad daylight (except for the part where the crats hid behind some phony email get-together, backed by a quick straw poll). That's fine. I'm still here to build up the project, and will continue to do so, even if one of these jackals finds some excuse to block me. Good night and good health to the decent people on Commons. Well. I don't understand why is the problem in this picture, when is a screenshot from the same site of this other image. And this image has been accepted. I expect a response. Thanks. Danny toons

The video itself is now under a standard YouTube licence. I wasn't aware of the earlier review. You need to use Template:Image extracted to show that the source video was at one time under a free licence. lNeverCry 19:54, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
Well. the idea is that I re upload the same image which deleted the project, with the Template:Image extracted? The file I uploaded has nothing to do with the example image. Well I realized that the moment I did the screenshot, the video was under the proper license. I need some help of you. Thanks again. Hi it is a fake flag and the name of the country was Donetsk–Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic not Donetsk Republic. Could you move the file ? Regards. --Panam2014 (talk) 19:53, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Dear INeverCry, It seems this user is violating copyright widely (see here). So I think it's better to block this user.

And a question: How can I bring such a this file to this category? (I mean without opening every individual page.)--Freshman404Talk 06:43, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Yann has given a final warning to the above user. Yann is an experienced admin, so he will take care of further problems with that user if there are any. As for the missiles, I've copied them from Category:Air Defense to Category:Missiles made by Iran using Help:Gadget-Cat-a-lot. It's a great tool once you get used to it. VFC Edits

Hello, Regarding your mass edits. VFC out of control/account hacked? Just wondering whats up. Best --Steinsplitter (talk) 07:35, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

@Steinsplitter: I'm consolidating 2013/2014 uncategorized images to 2015. The 2013/2014 images don't get enough attention because they've been picked over so much. Adding them all to 2015 will only result in a count of about 300,000 images, which isn't much at all. Hopefully these images will get more attention. For me, daily 2015 categories with more images will allow me to do DR work faster. lNeverCry 07:39, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
I don't understand how your convenience in having categories consoldidated justifies clogging up thousands of editors' watchlists with scores of meaningless edits. Furthermore, you're falsifying the meaning of the date. If an image has been uncategorized (or whatever) since 2014, then it's been that way since 2014. That's supposed to mean something. You're arbitrarily changing it to say something else e.g. [6]
You should stop doing this and get consensus first for such a mass edits of marginal (at best) and personal (apparently) value. EEng (talk) 20:45, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
This has been being done for years. If you go through these files as much as I do, you'll see a large number of files from 2012, 2011, 2010, and even earlier, re-categorized into the 2015 and 2016 categories. The whole intent is to get these files into fewer categories so that sorting them is easier. I already did this for the 2013 categories, and I've done it off and on for several years now, as have many other editors. I would point out that Steinsplitter, an admin, had no problem with this. lNeverCry 20:54, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
I would also point out that it's not just for my convenience. It's for the convenience of dozens of people who regularly sort uncategorized images. lNeverCry 20:55, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

I also came here because of this. Perhaps a better option would be to change the code in the template so that they all go into the category the community wants them in, rather than change the year to an incorrect one by changing every file? --99of9 (talk) 03:01, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

@99of9: I'm already done. I just have 50 more files to update with AWB. This of course means that I'm done with the mass VFC edits, so it's a moot point now. I did pass 1 million edits in the process. lNeverCry 03:05, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
So really you're just doing it just to up your edit count? I see little point in changing the years, have the same concerns as per above. Better time could be spent on correctly adding categories. Bidgee (talk) 03:24, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
No, I'm doing it for the reasons I explained above. Consolidation allows for better sorting. You have more files available for each daily entry to be categorized. More people will go to the 2015/2016/2017 categories than the 2013/2014 ones which were very much picked over. I would also point out that I do hundreds of DRs and CSDs from these categories daily myself, as well as adding numerous categories, so I know what works. This consolidation was a hell of a good idea, and good for Commons. lNeverCry 03:33, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Your response just feels like a poor attempt at justification of what your doing. "This consolidation was a hell of a good idea, and good for Commons" according to whom? I've not seen one person not seeing an issue of what you're doing. Bidgee (talk) 03:41, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Well, first, according to me myself, and that's pretty damned special on its own. But how about Steinsplitter? He asked me about this last night, and never once said to stop doing it, or that it was a bad idea. As I told the new guy, people have been doing this for years. I just wonder why you're here giving me shit for something that's already done? What are you looking to get out of hassling me? lNeverCry 03:49, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Everything isn't about you. Just because Steinsplitter didn't say anything other than a question doesn't mean anything (doesn't mean they thought that it was good [idea] as well) but EEng said you should stop! Maybe it because you've created issues, you're not the victim as you were the one to make mass out of process edits with VFC. Bidgee (talk) 03:58, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
It's not about me, it's about Commons. What I did will help with sorting uncategorized images. EEng, who has less than 500 edits here, and isn't even autopatrolled, voiced a concern. I responded to that concern, and he had nothing more to say, so I figured he understood that what I was doing was a good idea and not a problem. I would never intentionally do anything that I thought might be bad for Commons. lNeverCry 04:08, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
 • INC, I am formally asking you to stop doing this until there's consensus to do so (though I don't know where at Commons that discussion would take place). My 500 edits here may seem paltry beside your zillion automated year changes, but I've got 40k at en and a degree in computer science, so maybe I know what I'm talking about: a million edits represents a massive waste of server resources and editor attention just for "it's easier". EEng (talk) 04:34, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
I've got 300,000 edits in deletion requests and CSD tagging, another 200,000 in image uploads and categorization, and 200,000 edits closing DRs as an admin. I've got 425,000 log actions as an admin here and 30,000 as an admin at en.wiki. Take your patronizing bullshit somewhere else. I've already said I'm done with the VFC edits, so I don't see the point of harping on that. Go do something useful with your impressive computer science degree. lNeverCry 04:47, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

You brought up the edit counts. Everyone commenting here has expressed concern about what you're doing, and your response is classic IDHT. You're done for this year, good. Do you also recognize you should not do this any more in the future without prior discussion? EEng (talk) 05:36, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

I honestly figured that nobody would object to my action, as it really is helpful. Considering that some people did object though, I'll start a discussion in future if I have any similar ideas. As for VFC, I don't see myself using it again for mass edits any time soon. If and when I do, I'll be sure to discuss it with others first. lNeverCry 05:55, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding. EEng (talk) 06:15, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Dear @INeverCry, I noticed you removed the images I uploaded last year to illustrate a Wikipedia entry I submitted to (Draft:Connect4Climate). Speedy deletion of Category:Media_needing_categories_as_of ... pages

I suddenly experienced that the "Media needing category" pages are put for speedy deletion. See [7]. On a daily basis I am working on these pages resulting in about 300 edits a day. This includes next to adding categories also adding images to the Wikipedias (German, English, Spanisch, French and Dutch), creating new categories when required and sometimes improving images used in Wikipedias by for example removing watermarks, straightening, adjusting colour etc. Why have these pages suddenly empied? Wouter (talk) 08:56, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

I just found out that all pages of 2014 have been emptied. Where have these thousands of photos gone? Wouter (talk) 09:03, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

??? Could you please give more explanation than just the number 2015 ? Wouter (talk) 21:06, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
The uncategorized images from 2013 and 2014 have been merged into Category:All media needing categories as of 2015. This is a common practice to consolidate uncategorized images so that you only have to do sorting in three categories (2015, 2016, and 2017) instead of five. lNeverCry 22:20, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Yours sincerely, Яй (talk) 15:36, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

I see you gave this image a good review but I have it on my watchlist as I have reservations about its copyright status. While the bottom of the source page shows a CC license we accept, I also noted a statement on their licensing page, that is linked from the CC-BY-SA tag, in the Non-text files section where it states: Non-text media on Fandom should not be assumed to be available under the same license as the text. Please view the media description page for details about the license of any specific media file, and on the [Image copyright tags page it further suggests tagging images but that images can be fair-use or freely available. So to me this image was uploaded without any copyright statement, as I can't see one, so we don't know it's true status and is certainly not covered by the freely licensed text license. I don't often question an admin's actions, but in this instance perhaps you just relied on the CC tag at the bottom of the page. Some of this uploader's other images, such as this one, do have acceptable copyright tags. Thoughts. I'm watching so there is no need to ping me. Ww2censor (talk) 14:14, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

I'm not an admin any more, so I'm free to fuck things up once in a while like any regular editor. I don't feel like creating an account on that wikia or plugging in a public proxy so as not to show my IP, in order to ask the uploader about licensing, so I would suggest you file a deletion request by copy and pasting some of the above reasoning. I've reverted my pass. lNeverCry 19:03, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation; I understand your concerns. I'll review it again. Ww2censor (talk) 19:25, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

@We hope: Odd jobs is good enough for me. I though you had Commons in your rear-view. I was sad to see you go, and here you are on my talk in 2017. My birthday is the day after tomorrow btw. I'll be a lovely 49 years old. Pretty soon the big 50 - half a century! But I'm doing decent on my medications, which have increased and will have to increase a bit more in April. As regards adminship, I might make it back once Commons looses enough admins. If they get to 150 admins with 20 active ones, they may suddenly remember just how much I can do with the tools. I did get in my millionth edit as you can see above. Not too shabby I'd say, especially when you stack it up with my 400,000+ log actions as an admin. Hopefully you'll stick around and some of the undesirables will clear out. lNeverCry 23:21, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

File:MUNI.jpg

Hi INeverCry. I was wondering if you would mind taking a look at File:MUNI.jpg when you have a spare moment. You deleted a file with this name back on 29 June 2013, but another editor uploaded a file under the same name on 14 February 2015. I'm not sure if they are the same file or just different files with the same name. -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:27, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

I can't help much since I can't see the deleted image. This new one looks more out of scope than copyvio. It's probably a different image, but you'd have to ask an admin who can see the deleted version. lNeverCry 20:21, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Very sheepish to have forgotten...

Happy Baaa-lated Baaaa-day, INC !!! Many more!!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:01, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: Thank you dear Ellin. I'm glad to see you're not mad at me for my earlier spoiled child antics. I hope you're feeling good. I'm not too bad. I've evened off on my Seroquel at 600mg and my Gabapentin is OK at 2400mg. Together they make me a big fat jelly (I'm getting close to 200lbs) vegetating on Twitter or watching TV... It's much better than the alternative of mania, seizures, and panic attacks though. I've got to see if I can work up the energy to actually read a book or get back to my Rosetta Stone Russian lessons.

Yesterday I asked three highly qualified people if they wanted to go for adminship - I quickly collected three no thank yous... Here I am wishing I still had my adminship, and I couldn't find anyone to give it away too!

If you have a chance, let the other crats on the mailing list know that I offer my sincere apologies to them. They're all good people and they don't deserve my drama. The worst thing about it is that I always regret these outbursts soon after I've made a fool of myself.

Anyways, don't be a stranger. Shoot me an email now and then. I was disappointed that your friend never contacted me. I love talking about medications and bodily conditions of all kinds. I'm like my mum, who's 73. Whenever I talk to her we always discuss our health for hours... lNeverCry 21:51, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Sorry

Hi INC, My apologies for the accidental revert, I use Linkclump to open tons of tabs at once and somehow I scrolled abit too far and ended up rollbacking you so apologies for that, Hope all is well & have a great week :), –Davey2010Talk 21:23, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

No big deal, though I'd like it better if you'd accidentally revert some crats and admins... lNeverCry 21:26, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
Haha okay I'll go on a rollback spree now , Random as hell I know but I wish you were an admin again!, Not gonna lie I miss seeing your name everywhere too :(, Least you get some rest from this place I guess :), –Davey2010Talk 00:20, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

I see you have done a good amount of VIC work. Can I just start nominating images? The process seems pretty simple. Do I have to review images too? I would mostly like to nominate portraits of women writers, artists, &c &c. Thank you. Daphne Lantier 01:16, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Daphne. VIC won't take you long to master. I would suggest getting a dozen or so successful nominations done before you start voting or closing other people's nominations. One thing I found out is that the VIC bot won't process nominations if you use a custom signature, as we both do. So what you have to do is make your nomination, save it, and then copy and paste your standard signature into the nominator field. Here's yours:

Daphne Lantier (<span class="signature-talk"></span>)

You can vote with a simple s for  Support or an o for  Oppose. The closing script is this, and goes under all votes and comments once the bot has indicated a nomination is ready to be closed:

<div style="margin:1em 0; padding:.8em 1em; border:1px dashed #2f6fab; background:#f9f9f9; line-height:2.1ex; color:#000; overflow:auto; white-space:auto"> <tt>Result: 1 support, 0 oppose =><br />. ~~~~</tt></div>

That's all you need to get going. You can add this to your sandbox page. lNeverCry 01:36, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
Excellent! Thank you! I've put those in my sandbox. I'll probably wait while I learn about adminship and how to do a few things in that area. Daphne Lantier 01:46, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
Admin work is easy too. Just don't be afraid to take action. Mistakes can be fixed pretty easily, especially with simple deletions, blocks, etc. If you really get stuck on something, you can always ask me about it. If I'm not around, you can ask other editors/admins, starting with the ones who supported you at your RFA... lNeverCry 01:52, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

I wait for you!

I hope you're better my friend, I am always here waiting for your return. A heartly hug.--LivioAndronico (talk) 22:50, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Jvolkblum

We're still seeing some effects of this user's mischief; I spotted two today. Banned in 2012 by you and another, but their photos still have no evidence of public domain status. The uploads are those of Sons4Sunder and Grabbybagg. I have a separate, unrelated complaint on a long-lasting Commons user causing havoc if you want to pursue that as well. ɱ (talk) 04:31, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Damn, here's three more that need uploads deleted: Yuckycurry, AustinAngusBass, and 5WetRoofers. Definitely some method of passive monitoring of New Rochelle categories is needed. ɱ (talk) 04:35, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
INeverCry is on a long health break, and is no longer an admin anyway, so I've taken care of this and nuked all the uploads of the above accounts. If you find anything else, go ahead and report it on my talk. Daphne Lantier 18:34, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Your VFC installation method is deprecated

Hello INeverCry, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Events of yesterday...

Oh dear... How could you? I have always appreciated your input and had come to deeply respect your involvement on both the English Wikipedia and on Commons. Yesterday it seems you wreaked havoc with Commons, including deleting the main page. I don't understand. Maybe understanding is not for me to have. But I would be lying if I said I was not very disappointed and/ or mystified by what has happened under whatever guise (as Daphne or any other). You do not owe me an explanation. Still, I would like to have one so I could forgive you. Is there an explanation?? KDS4444 (talk) 10:43, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

@KDS4444: I did the Daphne admin thing for one simple reason: I love being an admin here. I like doing deletions and blocks and helping people. I couldn't let it go when I lost adminship with this account. As for the night I was discovered and went on a rampage here, I was upset about it and had an episode of mania. I regretted it soon after. I don't excuse anything I've done though. I fucked up, plain and simple. I wish I could go back and not do these crazy things, but the past is in God's hands as is the future. lNeverCry 00:25, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. That is what I wanted to hear you say about you. Also, while the past may be in God's hands, the future is still in your own, I think. I don't know how a person comes back from Tartarus once cast there... Nine days is a long time for an anvil to fall. But I, for one, would welcome you back. KDS4444 (talk) 13:09, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Disappointed

INC you were the best admin on this place by far and you had so much potential here you really did, As I said on the desysop page I'm not only shocked but I'm also very saddened because I considered you a best friend on here and as I said I thought you were the best admin this place has ever had, Anyway I wish you all the best for the future, Take care INC, Dave 19:10, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

@Davey2010: I still consider you a friend. I loved being able to help you and others with whatever needed to be done. This was the motivation behind the Daphne account. I couldn't let go of being an admin, which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, I'm just not mentally stable, and so I sabotage myself with bad actions. Hopefully I can fix this some day. Take care bro. lNeverCry 00:29, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Disappointed, too

Actually I too was disappointed to see that an admin with high potential like you used to be has been drawn by the Dark Side of the Force. I just wish that you didn't take Commons and its sister projects as a role-playing game. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 16:38, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

@Blackcat: I don't think of Commons that way. For instance, I helped Livioandronico2013 because I really felt he was being treated unfairly. I did 100K good log action with the Daphne account. Only that final blow-up was different. I went off because I was upset. I wish I hadn't, but, as they say here in the USA, wish in one hand, shit in the other, and see which one fills up first... lNeverCry 00:34, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Blocked

I am sorry to hear that you are blocked due to abuse of multiple accounts. Actually both of you help me a lot, you two have contributed a lot on commons. May be after INC have been desysop, then you nominate Daphne for sysop. Actually being an admin is not important. Even you are not an admin, I can see your effort. So, don't give up yourself. I hope you can turn over a new leaf, identify why you are blocked, and promise not to do it again. The commons are always welcome for you. Best wishes. --B dash (talk) 03:10, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Farewell

Thank you INeverCry for all those contributions to Wikimedia Commons.--It's Kong of Lazers talk to me 23:43, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Your increasing socks

INeverCry widely called as INC, by your recent sockpuppet creation am amazed to call u as a godfather of socks😂. While I might not know much about you because am only a year old but your regime as Daphne as admin I was amazed seeing your contributions. The day it came into light it was you behind the veil I was shocked by it. Your contribution to Commons is wide outstanding but your recent activities as a sock hurts all here at Commons. By your excellent contribution towards wikimedia projects they are Discussion whether to accept give u a fresh start. You know what is better for the development of Commons and u too know what sockpuppettery leads. So I request you that this 38 ends here and let's all function well. Am sure the Commons community not now but in future will forget your bad works compensating the good you perform. I hope you co-operate. Thanking you --✝iѵɛɳ२२४०†ลℓк †๏ мэ 05:08, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

@Tiven2240: Some sockmasters have 10,000+ socks like ISECHIKA and Calvero. Russavia even has a couple thousand. I can't say I'll stop, because that would be a lie, but I'll be sticking to productive edits as Russavia has done. lNeverCry 00:40, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

INeverCry please note the existence of the above proposal.

For others: A request for comment has been raised at meta proposing that this account and the user be globally banned per m:Global bans. Comment should be made at the RFC page.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:38, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Just saw it. Given that a well-known aggressive Commons admin is badly insulting me there, I have to say that I've nothing to do with the IP who initiated the GB request, nor with the request itself; even though it's actually true that I live in Berlin most of the time. I'm not for GB of INC for the simple reason that it would be just useless. CU's shall feel free to checkuser me, I've nothing to hide. Thanks --A.Savin 00:33, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
@A.Savin: I have no suspicion of you being behind this IP. I thought possibly Messina, Sro23, or the person who posted above, Kong of Lasers, who is now blocked here for socking. It doesn't strike me as a proxy, but I can give it a quick scan with nmap if I have a chance. lNeverCry 16:54, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
The IP isn't me either. I don't know how I'm supposed to convince you it's not me, but it really isn't. I don't know who it is. Sro23 (talk) 17:03, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Sro23 The only issue I have with you is your continued tagging of my socks on the user pages. These socks are supposed to be reported to AN/B or AN/V so an admin can handle them. If I were Guanaco I would be a bit unhappy that you are stepping on his toes a bit with your actions. He's perfectly well able to handle blocking and tagging socks. There have also been people impersonating me on various sites; what if you tag a sock of theirs wrongly as mine? What if you tag another Russavia sock as mine? In any event, I can't blame you for sock hunting, since I'm one of the all-time kings of it. I've gotten the resentment out of my system and will only be doing good edits from now on. lNeverCry 00:04, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi INeverCry, the IP in question is surely not one of Messina. And you should not nmap such IPs without consent, see here. This would be useless anyway as the provider in this case does not grant an IP address over a time period of more than 24 hours. (You should be familiar with all this as you have been a checkuser.) Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 04:52, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
@AFBorchert: Yes, I didn't look at it any further, and didn't even know what the IP was when I responded. Mostly I wanted to assure A.Savin that I didn't suspect him at all. The whole thing is moot to me now, as I don't intend to edit here unless I'm unblocked someday. If banned, I would just move on and use Commons only to collect images for private use. Socking is too much of a hassle. For now I'll spend a little time on Russian Wikipedia, but will be spending more time reading, studying Russian, history, literature, and politics, and using various social media like VKontakte. Take care. lNeverCry 05:37, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Imo, this conversation should be taken into consideration. There is this saying: you don't make music with one bell... That is also the reason why a lift of the block seems reasonable. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 20:17, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

@Lotje: That is strange stuff. I've also seen WMF-banned editor Thekohser offer 50$ for a Wikipediocracy article on me. I don't find myself to be at all interest-worthy, especially as I was only an OTRS member for a grand total of 4 days, but apparently some others do. I don't know about getting unblocked - there's plenty of opposition to that, but I will be socking with constructive edits from now on. I'm saddened but resigned to what I've brought on myself. Russavia has been able to do a lot of great work as a sockmaster here, and so can I. Take care. lNeverCry 00:15, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Imho it is better to ask the WMFcommunity for a sockpuppet name instead of experimentingon your own... As long as they know what you're up to, there should not be a problem. I feel pretty convinced that (in the unlikely event) it would be advisable for Lotje to have a sockpuppet to help improve the project, this humble bee would be informed accordingly. Lotje (talk) 12:41, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

@Magog the Ogre and Elcobbola: Can one of you guys take a look at m:User talk:Trijnstel#My last sleepers on Commons? Trijnstel hasn't acted on my report, and these sock accounts are still live. Request

It is so disheartening to watch you being insulted by all and sundry. You were the most prolific admin in this project's history, and you helped zillions of users in the past. Likewise. INC, or Daphne, or whatever your name is, you were really helpful, I appreciated all the work you did, as did countless others. Please don't throw away all that, out of pique, or in an attempt to blackmail your way into becoming an editor. Please, stop the vandalism. This is all about the Wikipedia, right? The single greatest source of knowledge in history? Don't forget that, please. It's great that it's fun to edit, but it's not a video game, it really is about making useful knowledge, and if you're vandalizing, you're not doing that. --GRuban (talk) 17:51, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello, INeverCry!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:-BlackLivesMatter Boycott Fox News and The NY Post (15993936047).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!
