Summary
[edit]DescriptionIndonesian Fig - Strangler Fig (Ficus retusa).jpg |
A rare species of Ficus native to Indonesia, Ficus retusa (synonym: Ficus truncata). I took a photo of this tree in the East Jakarta area in December 2020. The tree is still young and grows epiphytes with strong strangling roots. The leaves and their characteristics are authentic to those described by Atlas der Baumarten von Java (1918) and the sample owned by Herbarium Bogoriense (1955). FYI: The name Ficus retusa is often used as a "trade name" by nurseries and bonsai enthusiasts, but the tree shown is incorrect. Most people think the cultivars of Ficus microcarpa (eg: Ficus Ginseng and Ficus Green Island) are Ficus retusa. I have collected various types of Ficus and compared them, you can see that in my blog post about the Differences between Ficus retusa and Ficus microcarpa. |
