Assess : newly added and existing articles, maybe nominate some good B-class articles for GA; independently assess some as A-class, regardless of GA status.
Cleanup : * Sport governing body (this should-be-major article is in a shameful state) * Field hockey (History section needs sources and accurate information - very vague at the moment.) * Standardize Category:American college sports infobox templates to use same font size and spacing. * Sport in the United Kingdom - the Popularity section is incorrect and unsourced. Reliable data is required.
* Fix project template and/or "to do list" Current version causes tables of content to be hidden unless/until reader chooses "show."
This is really an umbrella article in which mountaineering is only one of the mountain sports. Others include: climbing, ski touring, ski mountaineering, freeriding, snowshoeing, hiking, hillwalking, mountain biking, paragliding, trekking and canyoning. The mountaineering article perhaps clouds the issue by including activities that are not related to ascending mountains. Bermicourt (talk) 12:50, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Should the name be changed to say "Mountain-based sports" (i.e. clarify that it is not just mountaineering and that there are many of them)? Aszx5000 (talk) 12:55, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That could certainly be part of the explanation included in the lede, but according to Ngram viewer "mountain sports" and "mountain sport" are common expressions in book sources whereas "mountain-based sport(s)" is too rare to be included. Bermicourt (talk) 13:18, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why are via ferratas included as a discreet and independent "mountain sport"?
Would it not be a part of "hiking"?
Alternately, shouldn't it be excluded if in-bounds skiing is excluded for the (very reasonable) argument that "prepared" routes are not traditionally a part of "mountain sports" (which imply a backcountry, unprepared element)? 2601:280:4000:3D:FC88:6579:C2FC:5800 (talk) 17:09, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
