Split across three different venues over the course of three days, Slam Dunk Festival has been a celebration of pop-punk, rock, metal and even drum and bass over recent years. Nominated for UK Festival Awards in previous years, Slam Dunk has always prided itself on its accessibility and openness to its audiences.
This year Slam Dunk will be taking place from May 27-May 29 in Leeds, Birmingham and Hatfield accordingly, and so far the line-up is a mixed bag of awesomeness.
Not only is it welcoming headliners Enter Shikari to the main stage, but it will also be giving them the chance to play their debut album Take To The Skies (2007) for its tenth anniversary.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Other names such as Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Neck Deep, We Are The Ocean, Bowling for Soup, Don Broco and Deaf Havana will be hitting the stages to entertain the huge crowds.

In the summer of 2007, Streetlight Manifesto, Against All Authority, Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish played a show together at the Los Angeles classic Deco venue The Wiltern. It was the moment my teenage Ska fandom came full circle. Aaa were my favorite Ska-punk band at the time (before I got heavily into Choking Victim/Leftover Crack, no pun intended to either of those),Streetlight were my favorite virtuoso-level technique Ska group, Less Than Jake were the perfect amalgamation of 90’s Pop Punk and Ska, and Reel Big Fish is goddamn Reel Big Fish. The balkanized crowd space had circle […]...

by Heather Wixson
It’s not often that you run across aspiring genre directors who are still in their teens so when we discovered a brand new Kickstarter campaign for Carver, an upcoming indie slasher from the filmmaking team of Ron Diprimio and his 13-year-old daughter Emily Diprimio, we immediately took notice.
In the campaign, the Diprimios’ describe Carver as, “a throwback 80’s style slasher that follows a group of teenagers who are haunted by a despicable act they committed on Halloween when they were younger.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.
Yes, we get it. Times are tough and there's comfort in reflection, but enough is enough.
Below, a final goodbye to the 90s to end the nostalgia once and for all. (We're not kidding. There are 1990 items below.)

With the Congress Theater still out of commission until at least October, Logan Square and Wicker Park residents can instead look to the area's newest venue, Concord Music Hall, for their live music-listening needs.
Opening Aug. 1 with a show headlined by Adam Ant, Concord will be taking over the space currently occupied by the club VLive at 2047 N. Milwaukee Ave. (just spitting distance from the embattled Congress). Other acts coming soon include Jimmy Cliff, The Misfits and Less Than Jake.
According to the venue's website, Concord is the collective efforts of the Chicago promoters behind Riot Fest, Silver Wrapper, and React Presents, otherwise known as the minds behind North Coast Music Festival, Spring Awakening Fest and the hotly-anticipated Riot Fest.
With a capacity that can range from 700 to 1,600 (depending on whether balconies are open), Time Out Chicago reports the space's 20,000 square feet include two levels and five bars.

Ever since Michael Jackson and John Landis unleashed "Thriller" in 1983, shaming all that preceded it, the music video has become an art form within itself. It can be a launching pad for your career (Alicia Silverstone), a favor to a boyfriend (Courteney Cox, Evan Rachel Wood), or a way to begin rebuilding a thousand burned bridges (Mickey Rourke).
With the MTV Video Music Awards hitting MTV tomorrow at 8 p.m. Et, we've compiled a list of the 50 best based on a number of factors: creativity of video, quality of actor's performance and, for some, random dancing ability. Our only caveats: no cameos and no soundtracks. The debate begins now.
50. Daniel Radcliffe in Slow Club's "Beginners"
At first, seeing DanRad less-than-sober in a Hawaiian shirt is the opposite of magical, but then he starts lip-synching. Still, with big-boy moves like this video and his spooktastic turn in "The Woman in Black,...

North London mob Imperial Leisure kick into spring with their sophomore effort Death To The One Trick Pony. School friends and friends from youth, mutually raised on a diet of ska, punk and hip hop, with influences cited varying from The Specials and Madness to The Beastie Boys, Jurassic 5 and Rage Against the Machine. They’ve been steadily building buzz with a hefty touring schedule which has brought about support slots with the likes of Less Than Jake, Gym Class Heroes, Roots Manuva and the Sugar Hill Gang just to name a few. Tied alongside that, they’ve been breaking the festival circuit, hitting up Glastonbury and Camp Bestival, whilst playing guerrilla gigs in the car parks of Reading Festival amongst others.

With an ominous opening, picked and repeated, guitar intro, the band name and some sombre track titles; you could be forgiven for expecting album opener, Found Love in a Graveyard, to soon drop down into a dirgey Goth metal affair. What you get instead is a slow build of layers and atmosphere as the repeated male voiced backing chant of ‘found love’ and haunting female lead ‘oohs’ fall gently on top of each other, before lead singer(and guitarist) Roxanne leads her ‘oohs’ into the opening lyric ‘I get on my bike, and I ride, and I ride, and I’ll never be found again…’ and Patrick (drums) and James’ (guitars) backing chants drop out; and the album unveils itself as a ramshackle and reminiscent (of 80s British indie) melancholy guitar pop with its innocently morbid opening ode of falling in love with a ghost.

A Conversation with Less Than Jake's Peter "Jr" Wasilewski and Vinnie Fiorello Mike Ragogna: Hi Guys. Can you tell us about your playing Riot Fest this year? Vinnie Fiorello: The Riot Fest promoter had approached me to talk to the band about doing something special for Riot Fest, and he really wanted either the Losing Streak or Hello Rockview album in its entirety. Talking to the rest of the band, we decided that Losing Streak would be the record we would play. It's one of those records that is a benchmark for the rest of our records, so we're excited to do it. Mr: Losing Streak was a major breakthrough album for you guys, right? Vf: It's definitely a record, like I said, that is a benchmark. People that like our band love that record. It was our first record on Capitol Records, which...

In the history of popular music, there are a handful of genres that have been maligned to the point that they're remembered as the absolute nadir of culture, even if there might have been a handful of tunes worth saving on your iPod. Disco is the prime example, and no amount of Abba-based musicals or "Saturday Night Fever" retrospectives will wash away the memories of people dancing awkwardly to Donna Summer at Studio 54. The swing revival from the late '90s will never be mentioned in any loving retrospectives despite some quality singles from Squirrel Nut Zippers, and though plenty of the bands from the era are still working and drawing crowds and sales, nobody ever really says, "You know what I miss? Nü metal!"
And then there's ska, or specifically the ska-punk revival that flooded the airwaves between 1993 and 1998. The micro-genre that blended the Third Wave sound of the...

Though most of the MTV crew is going ape for today's release of Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," I have to admit that the movie I'm most looking forward to today is "Post Grad." It's got a number of things working for it. First, the trailer was accompanied by an excellent tune called "Show Me What I'm Looking For," by the woefully underrated band Carolina Liar. Secondly, it has a great support cast, like the underused Michael Keaton, the always-funny Jane Lynch and Zach Gilford of "Friday Night Lights."
But mostly it's because of Alexis Bledel, who is endlessly charming. A confession: I got the complete "Gilmore Girls" box set for Christmas one year, and then spent the next six months watching the whole series from top to bottom. Having grown up in a small town in Connecticut, I strangely felt like I related to that show, and I became...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. Every week, they'll answer a poll question that will reveal some of what we talk about behind the scenes here in the newsroom. Enjoy!
This week, details surfaced about one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the fall. No, not Jay-z's The Blueprint 3 or Lil Wayne's Rebirth. We're talking about the soundtrack to "New Moon," which will likely feature contributions from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Muse, Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie. There was also the announcement of the soundtrack to "Jennifer's Body," the new Diablo Cody-penned horror film. With that, combined with the quarter-century anniversary of one of the finest film soundtracks ever constructed (that being Prince's Purple Rain), this week's question is:...
