After Caesar’s assassination, Brutus and Cassius were driven from Rome and gradually seized all the Roman East. In late 42 they met Mark Antony and Octavian in two battles at Philippi. Cassius killed himself after being defeated in the first. Brutus did likewise after being defeated in the second. He was given an honourable burial.
