Sreeni, a bald 31-year-old college faculty, finds it hard to get a girl to love or marry him. All his attempts at finding love always leave him in despair. Will he ever find his match?
The film deals with a subject that isn't the least funny - body shaming. Sreeni's bald head and simple looks have always made an impact on his love life. His problem is solved comically through the first half of the movie. In the second half, you stop laughing and realise the consequences of body shaming someone in a public space.
Thamasha breaks the cliche of the world against body factors such a "being too fat" or "being bald". Unlike in a lot of movies where the actors give long and unrealistic motivational speeches to uplift the movie, Thamaasha manages to say a lot without raising its voice. Its strength comes from its actors, whose quirks and subtle facial expressions do most of the talking. The film also raises questions against the unwanted and mindless body shaming that is happening in the social media on our lives. Director Ashraf, who also wrote the script, has done an excellent job. The way little reactions are at first written funnily and the way the film shifts focus to a serious issue in the second act is really beautiful. Songs by Rex and Shahabaz Aman are also beautiful.
Vinay fort's marvellous performance as Sreenivasan with the thinning hairline and his innocent expressions are the backbone of the film. Chinnu Nair, who comes in the second half of the film, excels as Chinnu. She played the character like a natural. Someone else may have made it over dramatic. Grace Antony, Navas Vallikkunnu and Divyaprabha are all quite touching and effortless that you feel with them.
Compared to many other films in Malayalam that have explored body shaming, Thamaasha drives home its message in a much more loud and clear manner. All in all, it is a one simple, perfect and eye-opening take on body shamming.

Thamaasha was brilliant. What more can you expect from this team of producers. This movie is one of the few movies in Mollywood which completely defies star power and cultural biases and deliver a pure and good cinematic moments. Thamaasha is filled with so many great moments which will stay with us even long after leaving theater. Debutant Ashraf Hamza did a very good job with a good script. The story is small but tells important things happening around. Sameer Thahir's cinematography was good as always. The two songs of the movie are also very good. Vinay Forrt did an excellent job as the main lead and so did every other characters. Overall, Thamaasha is a must watch movie which everyone likes. Kudos to Happy Hour Entertainments after another brilliant movie, Sudani From Nigeria.
Been in the office too long this weekend?
Head to your nearest theater and catch Thamasha ,a fun filled family entertainer which is Written and directed by Ashraf Hamsa.
Thamasha is film which we all would love to connect and relate to.
It tells us how today's world is obsessed and dots so much on personal looks and get ups and that we really forget who
and what we really are.
Thamasha tells us about friendship and how a person tries really to find someone in his life and how he misses his chance each time due to his low self esteem . We all had friends who helped us during our bad times , Thamasha too tells us about how valuable friendship is in our life. It tell us how little things in life matter and not how people see us do. The character of Vinay fort does tells us how he changed his perspective where in one stage of his life he was nervous and too little determined to get things done right because of his low self esteem due to his baldness to a point where he stops caring about how bald he is or how his looks affect his social life. Thamasha shatters stereotyping of the world against body factors such a "being too fat" or "being bald". It tells the audience that none of the above matters and that only what we are inside does.
All in all it is a one simple, perfect and eyeopening take on body shamming.
The whole film revolved around the performance of Vinay Fort which I must say is his career best, and also the brilliant concept of the film. All in all you are in for a fun filled family entertainer . Personal Rating: 4.6/5
"Cheers to more such good films".

If box collection is a scale of determining the worth if a movie, then i should mark it as a 100 cr one(gettimg 100 cr is still a beg deal in mollywood).
It's a hidden gem, i went wity my friend with a lot of doubts, and confusions over the heacy rating on the sites. But just after the first 5 minutes, the film captured my mind.
A perfect feel good 👌

Being a psychologist I found the theme of this movie quite fascinating. The protagonist being the average guy most of us can really relate to his experiences. Amazing songs and beautiful visuals. Experienced craftsmanship at every level of production. Definitely brings out very definite aesthetic value.

Thamasha (Comedy) makes you feel good about life. It makes you want to tackle the issues in your life by looking at the bright side. The same way how the #2 showstealer in this comedy drama Chinnu Nair lives her life when she is at the receiving end of unsolicited analysis and advice from the society. Vinay Forrt, however, is who drives this show into a delightful mixture of mild slapstick and realistic depiction of human life with his nuanced performance as this somewhat taciturn, perennially anxious bachelor looking for a bride. I could say that this is an extension of his memorable role in Alphonse Putharen's Premam (2015) but that would mean taking the novelty out of this original slice-of-a-life film that unearths the hidden problems influencing the decisions of bachelors and bachelorettes of the world, and how appearance is still regarded as the number one factor in arranged matrimony in India. Save for the illogical and/or factually incorrect nature of the conflict in the second half involving social media, I had a pleasant experience viewing this due to its sufficient dose of comedy and wonderful performances including by Navas Vallikunnu, Arun Kurian (who excels as the typical 'brother of the protag'), and Grace Antony. Thamasha is bound to bring a heavy smile on your face that will linger for days after you watch it and that's the magic of this new director Ashraf Hamza who we need to keep an eye on along with Khalid Rahman and Madhu Narayanan all of whom have given us three of the best films of 2019 so far. TN.
Happy to see this movie in Malayalam too. As same or one step better than originall

It's a very simple but cute and realistic movie that a lot of people can relate to. About an ordinary guy and girl going struggling through life being kind of social outcasts in a way and they find comfort in each other eventually. It's definitely a feel-good movie and one that will make you smile in the end. I wasn't expecting it to like it so much but I did. It was funny and beautiful because of the utter simplicity in it's theme.
Simply told excellent feel good movie. I wish there would more movies like Thamsaha coming in malayalam

A mediocre attempt at recreating the sort of film that Sreenivasan used to write and act in, back in the 90s. The worst Sreenivasan film would be better than this dull, unfunny and uninspired piece of crap.
The first half is filled with repetitive scenes that underscore the main character's bungling attempts at seducing various women. But none of them are really funny or cleverly written. There are no real jokes. No interesting characters. No interesting scenes.
Sreenivasan himself once said that he would read the scripts of other writers and tell them "Ningalude thamaashakal vaayichaal chiri varilla" (your jokes do not make me laugh). Thamaasha is one such script. There is nothing funny or touching about this film. The final drama involving the Facebook post and its resolution was also quite uninspired. In fact, my review is also uninspired. So do not waste your time. Watch Paavam Paavam Rajakumaran instead of this crap.

The central theme of Thamasha isn't funny. But what makes it work is the cast and the light-hearted tone employed by writer/director Ashraf Hamza. Sreenivasan is a 31-year-old professor who is struggling to find love (and matrimony) largely owing to his semi-bald head. The first half plays around his efforts to connect with women in his immediate circle (at work and otherwise). The director takes the humorous route in expounding these situations and this leads to some hilarious sequences. They work mostly because of the camaraderie between an excellent Vinay Forrt and Nivas Vallikkunnu (whose comic timing is used to great effect).
The women in the first half (played by Divya Prabha and Grace Antony), though standing out for their grounded performances, lack the refined writing that the character of Sreenivasan gets. It does make sense to view the narrative purely from Sreenivasan's perspective and that probably explains why these characters fade out (or recede into the background) once the 'funny reveals' around them are made. However, the second half boasts the presence of a lively Chinnu who thankfully isn't a template heroine arriving in the second half as the hero's failsafe.
Her character has been written well, with just the right amount of positive vibes, sense of humor, and feminine strength. The 'jokes' do turn serious beyond a point and the concept of body-shaming takes centerstage. While this was easily a film that could have gone aggressively overboard with its retaliation to body-shaming, it instead does so with a great level of composure and clarity. Again, plaudits should go to Vinay Forrt for his spot-on counter-dialogue delivery accompanied by innocent reactions (though slightly reminiscent of Vimal Sir from Premam), and a completely natural Chinnu.
Music by Rex Vijayan and Shahabaz Aman fits the tone of the film just great while Sameer Thahir's cinematography again goes on to show how we underestimate the beauty of God's Own Country. At under 2 hours, Thamasha is a breezy watch!

This malayalam movie is an official remake of a Kannada film "Ondu Motteya Kathe"
It is a story of the existential crisis most of the millennium generation (boys and girls- youth) face of being a STANDARD - Perfect -
What happens to those - who are diverse - different - in size shape, age, and many other STANDARD features that are continuously projected and bombarded through all media by 99% of corporates?
This is the story of a bald and slightly over-age Srinivasan - who is a faculty in a college. He has not been able to find a partner. He covers up his bald head with a wig toppee. His family and friends try to fix up his alliance with girls - which all end up in rejecting him
On the other side there is this fat young girl Chinnu - who is outgoing, smart, outspoken - but she too is not able to find a partner because - she does not fit into the STANDARD brainwashed by society
By chance through social media - they are introduced by a matrimonial agency. Both see their photo and find each other quite normal to go ahead and meet each other in a public garden.
During the meeting - both face the same societal prejudices of STANDARDS Srini did not expect a fat girl and Chinnu did not expect an elderly man. By accident - a child at the bus stop pulls off Srini's wig and gives it to Chinnu and that is a double blow for Srini - a bit elderly and bald. He runs away embarrassed. .
Both Srini and Chinnu ponder on their disastrous meeting. But Chinnu feels guilty and calls Srini to hand over his wig. They meet and while leaving Chinnu's scooty hits a pedestrian and Sriniv takes Chinnu to the hospital.
There starts their cute little relationship - they grow close to each other and accept each other as friends.
On their first small date - day-out - they visit the Biennale art festival being held in Cochin for the whole day - and Chinnu post their joint photos on social media.
At the end of the day - both are very happy. But the next day - the trolls - make fun of the ODD couple - an old man and elephant.
Srini is humiliated and laughed at by his student and co-faculty in college, and he gets angry at Chinnu for posting their photos on social media and ends the relationship and prospect of meeting Chinnu every again.
But Chinnu is much matured and brave. Instead of removing the photo from social media - she gives back to the trolls by posting a video and replying back to the trolls for shaming them just because they do not fit to SOCIETAL STANDARDS.
Seeing this video of Chinnu tens of thousands of people on social media like the couple and their joint photo.. and people come forward to Srini and congratulate him for being brave and having such a wonderful girl in his life.
Things are going on fine between Srini and Chinnu. But one day - Chinnu asks Srini to come to a Cancer hospital. Expecting the worst - Srini rushes to the Cancer ward and finds Chinnu cut her hair just like a cancer patient.
Srini breaks down and feels that his life which was coming back on track by finding this wonderful girl - Chinnu. The fate is snatching her again from him. But on going near Chinnu - he realizes that Chinnu just donated her hair for cancer patients. Thus the couple hold hands and walk out of the hospital - smiling. There the movie ends. This is a wonderful movie. Much like the movies Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee used to make in the seventies. Short, sweet simple - relatable story of common people. Vinay Font as Srinivas and Chinnu Chadni as Chinnu has acted excellently. The director Ashraf Hamza did not have much to do - as this movie is just a scene to scene remake of a Kannada movie. Yet all the credit to the Director Ashraf for maintaining the character, theme, flavor and message of the movie intact. The cinematography and music of the movie is also nice. It is a 120 minute movie - without a single dull moment. It is such an eye-opener and feel good movie of accidental LOVE happening between two individuals. I would surely recommend you to watch this movie I will give 7.5 out of 10 stars for this simple marvellous and powerful movie.

Just watched this movie and what i felt is this one just shown every sides of body shaming and how it affects the peoples personal life and public life more over their emotions and self confidence.
The directors brilliance just 1,2 times only they used the same conventional words to describe those fat people or bald one.
The whole movie is shown through fun scenes.
Now I just remember some of the so called peoples attitude towards those who are fat, bald, lean, dark skin tone, over height or less height normal people.(not physically challenged ones). But these people are also very normal. Can you relate how they had feel. We all call them so many words.I will also call that any day no change is going to happen. But after watching this movie I found some thing interesting since I know personally these peoples and we always make fun.
This movie made me recall one incident of one of fat girl who is my friend called me and met me in a very devastating state of depression of this body shamming by some of her colleges. At that time I thought this is not that much issue to make a depression.I consolidate her.But after this movie I could relate what could have she went through that phase of her life.
Kudos to the whole team including the Hero Vinay fort who had done an absolutely brilliant acting. The director and the whole crew.Cant stop mentioning Shahbaz Aman's magic voice in first song. PS: also the *FAT girl who had done a brilliant acting. :P

Very gentle and controlled flow, giving the viewer good time to absorb the movie but at the same time also making good consistent progress with the story telling.
Vinay Fort has done an outstanding job as the main protagonist. Very nuanced performance.
Chinnu has played a very endearing role as well.
Rex Vijayan's songs were beautiful and blended in nicely with the movie, coming at the right points. However, there were a couple of points where the background music seemed loud.
A few beautiful and humorous moments which have to have been inspired from real life come into the movie outside the main thread.
Movie has a very mature and subtle sense of humor that blends in well with reality. Humor that is not explicit, but still very strong.
"Thamasha" makes it's point pretty strongly and addresses the current audience pretty forth-rightly and clearly with the subject of body shaming. The movie has the potential to lay a resisting hand on at-least a few such remarks.
All through the movie, I was thinking of a friend of mine, who has faced these challenges pretty bravely, unlike the protagonist here. I don't recall him ever fazed by his baldness. Hats off to your bald head pal.
The movie basically opens your eyes to the subject and makes sure you have seen what it wants you to see, and then has set you free to reflect on it instead of spoon-feeding you with the next steps. There is a very definite mastery to the direction and the making. Camerawork has been very subtle and non-intrusive. Very engaging. Nice watch.

A man who's worried about his baldness searching for a suitable women for his life. Would he found? Let's watch it and find it.
Malayalam cinema always give importance to the stories than the star value and so on and this film proves that. This film moves with a slow pace but doesn't bore the audience due to the realistic screenplay as like we see in Malayalam films.
The perfect cast was chosen for this film and each of them did well in their performance.
Vinay was the perfect fit to his character and gave his settled performance for his character.
Mainly, the essence of this story didn't fade away at any point and was so brilliantly worked out. The main story to be shared and it did. Life is not always perfect. A must watch film and a beautiful film from Malayalam cinema.
