Hmmm

[edit]

From what I remember of Ocean View, it's a crime ridden section of town with lots of prostitution and drugs. That makes this quote in the article questionable: As the entire coastal property market surged with new growth, redevelopment in the Ocean View community has resulted in new upscale residential properties replacing old beach cottages and small motels along the resort strip, and bayfront property has regained and exceeded its past values.

The statement is correct. However, the key is "redevelopment in the Ocean View community". There are still some seedy sections, but the cleanup and upscale trend is clear. I have added some text to address your concerns. Vaoverland 04:42, August 29, 2005 (UTC)

Ocean View, VA

[edit]

I feel compelled to comment on the changes in the Ocean View, Va area since the 2005 posts. The Norfolk Housing and Redevelopment Authority (NHRA) got the ball rolling, and the neighborhood has experienced significant changes in the past two years.

Over ten square-blocks, previously occupied by deteriorating low-income housing and 'street' people, was purchased by the NHRA and transformed into $250-$500,000 condos with a newly-dredged marina full of boats. The redeveloped 'East Beach' was the site of Norfolk's 2005 "Home-A-Rama".

Local developers are continuing what the city started, and the progress is spreading slowly but surely. The 'unsavory' business is being eliminated from the area.

As an example, what the neighbors referred to as a "crack motel" was apparently purchased by the city, and is now being utilized for training purposes by the Norfolk Fire Department, as they slowly incinerate the remnants of what used to be a symbol of the area.

The city is definitely working on renewing the spirit that once made Ocean View "the place to be . . ."

(I'm not definite on the facts and figures, but I've lived In Ocean View for 15 years and have seen the changes, so please take the time to verify and update!)OVLifer 06:01, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
