What does the term "investment" mean in this anatomy article and others?

[edit]

The first sentence in the second section reads:

"It is an investment for the whole of the thigh, but varies in thickness in different parts."

I've seen the phrases "fibrous investment" and "fibrous expansion" in a few human anatomy articles. Do these phrases mean the same thing? Is "investment" a current term in the field of anatomy, or is it obsolete and therefore only appears in Wikipedia as a legacy from Gray's Anatomy's public domain text?

Sorry that I only have the wherewithal to pose these questions and not to research them or expand this article. BTW, the opening section of this article needs expansion, and afterward, if the sentence I quoted remains where it is, the pronoun "It" should be replaced with "Fascia lata," because having the antecedent for a pronoun in a separate section is awkward and confusing.

I appreciate any help you can give. I'll try to get more help by adding a link to this discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anatomy. Thanks, --Geekdiva (talk) 09:00, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
