[edit]Professional wrestling debut categories
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: I don't see a scheme for debuts for pro wrestlers or really any other profession, just things like Category:Debut albums and Category:Directorial debut films. The year of a wrestler's debut is not a defining characteristic to the individual. These are available as lists in 1987 in professional wrestling#Debuts and 1988 in professional wrestling#Debuts, respectively. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:59, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep - The year wrestlers debut is noteworthy. Pretty much all Japanese wrestlers have rivals based off of the year they debuted like Chono/Mutoh/Hashimoto. Sometimes teams are formed based on years people debuted. There's often rookie cups and titles. I would look at it more like Category:1990 films. Unlike other sports or even movies, there's no organized amateur pro wrestling scene. You are a pro wrestler when you have your first match. KatoKungLee (talk) 01:53, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Shouldn't the category then be more along the lines of "Professional wrestlers who debuted in 1987"? Anyway, the equivalent in other sports would be a player's rookie season, and no one is categorizing Michael Jordan by playing his first professional basketball game in 1984. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 02:39, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Rookies in other sports have already played organized ball for many years at various levels by the time they make the major leagues. Michael Jordan's first pro game was in 1984. When a wrestler debuts, they are a wrestler from that day forward. It doesn't matter whether it's in WWE or something like Ice Ribbon, it's counted the same because there are no organized amateur leagues. How long you've been around and when you've debuted tells you a lot about variou wrestlers.KatoKungLee (talk) 19:08, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

- Delete as non-defining and trivial.--User:Namiba 19:12, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Former South Florida Bulls sports venues
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: No need to distinguish between former and current. User:Namiba 18:00, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Selectively Merge Certainly this category should go but I think only Red McEwen Field should be merged since it was purpose built by the university. The rest seem like multi-purpose arenas that aren't defined by USF, per WP:OCVENUE. - RevelationDirect (talk) 19:55, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I just noticed that Category:South Florida Bulls baseball venues exists but probably should also be nominated for the same reason you state above.--User:Namiba 20:07, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Selectively merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:01, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Video games by protagonist
[edit]- Propose renaming Category:Video games by protagonist to Category:Video games by type of protagonist
- Nominator's rationale: Even though it only contains other categories containing "Protagonist", the current name is ambiguous, you could add "Bugs Bunny video games" or "Batman video games" to the subcategories. We already have a separate category entitled Category:Video games by featured character but not all of them center on games featuring the same single character as the protagonist. It would be better to just simply rename this to avoid confusion. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 17:46, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Wahhabists
[edit]- Propose renaming Category:Wahhabists to Category:Wahhabis and all subcategories
- Nominator's rationale: Quite simple, "Wahhabi" is the more common demonym than "Wahhabist" or "Wahhabite". Consistent with Wahhabi-related articles Wahhabi War (Category:Wahhabi War), Wahhabi sack of Karbala, Wahhabi Sack of Najaf (1806), Category:Wahhabi dynasties etc. and also consistent with other Islamic denominational categories such as Category:Barelvis (not Barelvists), Category:Deobandis (not Deobandists), Category:Salafis etc. Also, Ngrams results give a signifiant lead to "Wahhabi" over "Wahhabist" and "Wahhabite". Viwivi (talk) 13:16, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Rename per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:15, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Haskell implementations
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: The only page/cat in this cat is Category:Free Haskell implementations, both of which are sub cats of Category:Haskell software. No point in having this. (Please ping on any comment or reply, I cannot watch all changes of this high traffic page. Thanks!) ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:14, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Delete, redundant category layer. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:19, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:FM-Class articles
[edit]- Propose renaming Category:FM-Class articles to
Category:FM-Class filesCategory:FM-Class pages and all subcategories
- Propose renaming Category:FM-Class articles to
- Nominator's rationale: Quite simply, these are not articles, but are pages in the File namespaces. I suspect the category was named because it was easier to populate via template, but now we are using lua it will be easy to change this — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:56, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- The same applies to all subcategories. Shouldn't they be renamed too, in one go with the parent? Marcocapelle (talk) 06:30, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes I said "and all subcategories" in my nomination. I am not going to list them all here! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:50, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @MSGJ: well, you should, otherwise it is not going to happen. You also need to tag the pages. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:30, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes I said "and all subcategories" in my nomination. I am not going to list them all here! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:50, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- On reflection I have changed my proposed target for the rename to Category:FM-Class pages as this may fit in better with other categories if they are also renamed. For example Category:File-Class pages works better than Category:File-Class files — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:52, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Foreign residents of Mexican California
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: merge, unnecessary distinction, especially at provincial level, and for the larger part we do not know if people were naturalized or not. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:29, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:19th century in Alta California
[edit]- Propose merging Category:19th century in Alta California to Category:Alta California
- Propose merging Category:19th-century disestablishments in Alta California to Category:19th-century disestablishments in California
- Propose merging Category:19th-century establishments in Alta California to Category:19th-century disestablishments in California
- Nominator's rationale: merge, the province Alta California existed wholly within the 19th century. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:20, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- A simple merge would mean that in Category:19th century in California it would not be obvious where to look for the missing decades. Provided that the decade subcats are also added directly to that parent, then I think this can go ahead. – Fayenatic London 10:09, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Haitian billionaires
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: I would have said merge to Category:Haitian people but that category shouldn't have entries. Unlikely to be more Haitian billionaires out there. LibStar (talk) 04:59, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- It should be merged to Category:Billionaires at the very least. But better expand this nomination with a significant number of sibling categories, e.g. all with one or two articles. Currently there aren't any biography articles directly in Category:Billionaires and it would not make much sense to have the Haitian billionnaire as the only biography there. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:06, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Presidential residences in Puntland
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: Underpopulated category with only one page in it. SMasonGarrison 02:55, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Triple merge, also to Category:Government of Puntland. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:20, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Arkansas politicians convicted of corruption
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: Narrow category that shouldn't be diffusing and doesn't help navigation with a single person in it SMasonGarrison 02:41, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Dual merge per nom. Not every state has its own subcategory (though some do). Marcocapelle (talk) 04:22, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Presidential elections in the United States
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: Per title of main article - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 00:55, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Procedural oppose Per the bazillion categories in Category:Presidential elections by country. Changing the name would lead to inconsistency, so all of them would have to be nominated unless there's some special reason this is singled out. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 01:06, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- In fact there is good reason to nominate them all, because the articles use a different format than the categories, at least for the countries that I checked. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:25, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- If that format is kept, the base article ideally should also be titled Presidential elections in the United States. Articles pertaining to individual elections can remain. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 05:41, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, but normally the categories follow the conventions in the articles, not vice versa. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:33, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Rename to match the main article, United States presidential election, without objection to nominating sibling categories later if they are similarly out of sync. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:17, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- It was probably not very clear from the above, but I am supporting Zxcvbnm's procedural oppose. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:08, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep - as mentioned this is part of a very well-established and extensive category tree at Category:Presidential elections by country. - The Bushranger One ping only 04:59, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Gravity Rush (franchise)
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: There are only 3 real pages that belong here, GR1, GR2 and Kat. I don't think this passes the bar for a franchise category, much as I wish it did. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 00:23, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- (category creator) For what it's worth, it also contains a navigation template and four files. I think PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale also fits in the category pretty solidly considering all its other franchise categories, and the two real-world people are relevant enough to categorize too, in my opinion. I'll say keep, but I'm fine if it's deleted (admittedly, all I know about Gravity Rush is from Scott the Woz). — gabldotink [ talk | contribs | global account ] 01:20, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well, All-Stars Battle Royale shouldn't be in any franchise categories. Per WP:CATDEF, it has to be defining for the game (i.e. being a literal part of that franchise, not having a cameo character from it). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 05:18, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. Three articles *is* enough for a franchise category, in my opinion (and past experience), also note that there are also the files. It may need some trimming, but there is enough here. - The Bushranger One ping only 04:58, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
