Alphonsus Gerardus Martinus "Alphons" Panis (25 January 1900 – 22 February 1975) was a Dutch politician.[1][2]
Panis was born as the son of teacher Leonardus Waltherus Panis (1852-1933) and Anna Maria Cornelia van Roessel (1857-1914). He grew up in a large Catholic family. Several brothers became priests, including the titular bishop Walther Panis; one sister joined the Sisters of St. Francis. His brother Constant Panis became a known architect in Tilburg.[1]
Panis worked at the municipal clerk of Berkel-Enschot. In 1926 he started working as a secretary at the municipality of Helvoirt. In 1929, Panis was appointed mayor of Berkel-Enschot. Eight years later in 1937 he was appointed mayor of Haaren. In 1947 he returned to the municipality of Berkel-Enschot to become mayor there again. Panis retired in 1965.[1]
His son Fons Panis (1932 – 2023) was mayor of Maartensdijk (1973-1978) and mayor of Leusden (1987-1997).[3] He died in 1975 at the age of 75.[1][2]
