[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese queixar (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), probably from Vulgar Latin *quassiare, from Latin quassāre, present active infinitive of quassō (“I shake”). Compare Portuguese queixar and Spanish quejar.[1]
