[edit]From Proto-Brythonic *beudr, from Proto-Celtic *bow-itros (“cow path”), equivalent to *bāus + *itos, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁itós. MacBain instead compares Ancient Greek βαίνω (baínō, “I walk”), from *gʷem- (“to step”)[1]
