Also a slang verb, "to steal"?
[edit]I just read this:
- 1991, Stephen King, Needful Things
- It was as if he had read Brian's mind and had discovered how much Brian disliked having the owner of a store trailing around after him while he was looking at stuff. He supposed most storekeepers were afraid that you'd break something, or hawk something, or both.

[edit]Isn't this just a shortening of much older war hawk? –Jberkel 16:00, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
