editFrom Gaulish *cambica "bent log", derivative of cambos (“twisted, crooked”),[1] from Proto-Celtic *kambos, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kh₂emb- (“to bend, curve”). Compare Occitan chambijo (“plough beam”).
