Ireland Wikimedia Community
editThanks for your message on my user talk page, Sharon. The kind of activities the nascent chapter of Wikimedia Ireland are working on don't interest me at all. They don't seem to me to make a big enough difference relative to the work that would be put in to make them happen. I have been in too many committee meetings that waste my time. I am interested in being involved in:
- Code for Graphics - Logged as T56221, progressing code for graphics in Wikimedia.
- A project to get CAMARA in Ireland to make smarter use of open educational resources in education - i.e. Educational activities, particularly for language learning, that are built around a local wi-fi enabled server in the classroom.
- Educational (STEM) 'poster contest' in Ireland based on open educational resources.
Are you going to be at the CESI conference in Galway at the end of Feb Sharon? JamesCrook (talk) 17:25, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply James. I think there's room for all of us, just wanted to make sure I wasn't stepping on anyone's toes. Yes, I intend to be at the CESI conference, though I'm more interested in Higher Education. But some of our members have a speaking slot, so I'm going along to support. If you'll be there, I'd be delighted to meet and chat. Sharonlflynn (talk) 21:10, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO? |
According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017. What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome. |
New initiatives have been created for:
While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}. Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks page if you'd like and other editors may be able to help. Need tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors? Leave a message on the task force talk page. |
Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)! |

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: April 2018 |
Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles. If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.
WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

editWikimedia & Education Greenhouse - Confirmation for Online Course
editDear @Sharonlflynn:,
We are thrilled that you will be joining us in the very first edition of the Wikimedia & Education Greenhouse! Through this message I'm confirming that your individual application has been accepted and you will gain access to the online course "Wikimedia Education Project Management" launching on July 1. This online course is a co-learning experience that will allow you to acquire new knowledge and skills to bring to your Wikimedia education projects, or to take that jump into bringing a project idea to reality — all while engaging with a global cohort of peers who are passionate about the value of Wikimedia projects in the education field! At the end of this month of June you will receive an email with credentials to access the Wikimedia Education space on Moodle*, the open source learning platform where this course will be hosted. If you have never used Moodle before, do not worry. There will be an introductory unit with information, quick guides, and exercises that will allow you to get familiar and comfortable in this space before the main units start. If you want to learn a little bit about Moodle beforehand you can watch this video. We look forward to seeing you there on July 1! In the meantime do not hesitate to contact me at mguadalupe@wikimedia.org with any question you may have. Cheers! --MGuadalupe (WMF) (talk) 17:32, 10 June 2019 (UTC) * This online course will be conducted through Moodle, Moodle's use of your information is governed by their Privacy Policy. |

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
editWomen in Red 8th Anniversary | |
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |
