This is a poorly written and clearly biased Wiki-entry. I think it needs to be re-written. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.104.38.39 (talk) 19:07, 25 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is an awfully biased article which needs extensive reworking.

Nickname

edit

I've never in any of his matches heard him be referred to as "Super-Dan". Can anyone prove this? JordanGreen09 (talk) 13:15, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

In China we do call him "超级丹" which in English is "super-Dan". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.15.254.238 (talk) 22:09, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Greatest of all time

edit

I've removed this peacocky/weasely blurb about "many" people considering him the greatest of all time. First of all, most obviously, all three of the sources given there are from the same author, and the sources themselves don't make any claims about whether or not other people consider him the greatest, they only reflect the author's opinion. (That is to say, nowhere in any of the sources does the author say "here is proof that a lot of people think he's the greatest"; he just adds appositives along the lines of "Lin Dan—who btw is the greatest player of all time—...".) Secondly, regardless of what people think (which anyway hasn't been demonstrated by reliable sources), he's consistently outranked by Lee Chong Wei... rʨanaɢ (talk) 23:40, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Now, now, Lin Dan's records and trophies speak loud and clear. Are you deaf? 174.95.71.253 (talk) 02:43, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Too much subjectivity and detail and too many grammatical errors

edit

The article is supposed to be an encyclopedic overview of Lin Dan's career; not a sportswriter's running blog about it. The tournament tables should provide the specific details about his victories and losses in the finals of tournaments. An overview of each season is okay, but it needs to be concise, objective (or, at least, not overly subjective) and GRAMMATICAL! I reverted the recent "rewrite" of Lin's 2005 season because of its subjectivity and poor grammar. Badmintonhist (talk) 13:57, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

You can't revert with "Grammatical" reason, and also the reason of need to be concise, etc. Furthermore, in previous version, is Lin play for "warm up"? Some more "weasel words" are disallowed. All the things support by source, i wonder why it should be revert instead of fixing it.--Aleenf1 14:08, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

No for statistics, especially we don't want to favour a side, sorry. --Aleenf1 11:04, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please insert information from an ESPN commentator, that Lin Dan could be regarded negatively despite his great achievements because of his "arrogance". Comparing between Lin Dan and Runner-Up Lee Chong Wei in the 2012 Olympics, an ESPN commentator had this to say of him: "Lee Chong Wei is such a great guy, but Lin Dan is a bit arrogant. Skills win you medals, but attitude wins hearts." Thetrth (talk) 16:20, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Tattoo

edit

I wonder why tattoo can't be contained in this article? Lin has five tattoos on his body, and the tattoos are the obvious and significant symbols of him. I still think it's needed to put the following into the article, the Revision contents are I added to the article originally.

Unnecessary representation of the Superseries 'medals' in the infobox.

edit

The infobox is normally meant for the medals won in those events where you officially represent your nation. And, in badminton, leaving behind the Level 1 (or BWF Major Events), multi-sports or continental championships, a player doesn't represent his/her nation in any other event. So, representing those 'medals' in the infobox which are won at the Level 2 events like All England Superseries Premier or Superseries Finals isn't justified. All England Open has neither ever been a BWF major event nor you represent your nation in it. And, like any other major prize money tournament, since 1983, it has been part of the World Grand Prix or the BWF Superseries. Even BWF doesn't give any special privilege to this event as compared to the remaining four Superseries Premier events. So, why should we discriminate between them? Therefore, I think the 'medals' won at the All England SSP or Superseries Finals shouldn't be placed in the infobox.-NitinMlk (talk) 20:11, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

The "Super Grand Slam"

edit

It seems the "Super Grand Slam" is only ever mentioned in connection with Lin Dan. I have a hunch (though unproven) that it was invented for his sake. It seems strange to have a "feat" like this which includes two titles which are only contestable by people from Asia (Asian Games, Asian Championship), at least two team events (Sudirman and Thomas Cup), and a competition which is no longer being held (World Cup) - as well as a tournament instated only after the cancellation of another. In short, the SGS is only achievable by Asian players, hailing from countries with competitive teams, who were active both before and after the year 2007.

Now, it is undeniable that sources are calling this the "Super Grand Slam". But I'd like to see any sources calling it this before Lin Dan won it. NisJørgensen (talk) 06:32, 19 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't think there are, it wasn't considered possible until Lin Dan came along.
It makes sense for the team events to be there, because contributions to the team effort in order to achieve the most prestigious cups (Sudirman and Thomas). It's like the football world cup is more so viewed as an individual achievement.
As for the contestable from players in Asia, I reckon it was considered a part of the conditions for the Super grand slam because the Asian games is the Asian equivalent of the Olympics, hence held in almost the same regard as an OG for ranking points. Asian championships simply have much more competitiveness.
I reckon now though the conditions are definitely different as world cup has been retired. ThomasCup2024 (talk) 17:17, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
