Background
editPrior to her election to parliament, Walker worked as an actor, a political consultant, and a trustee to the RSPCA, the animal welfare charity. She also served as a ward councillor and deputy finance leader for the London Borough of Lambeth.[4] She graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a masters in mental philosophy.
Parliamentary career
editIn her first major vote in the House of Commons on 23 July 2024, Walker cast her ballot along party lines to avoid language regarding the two-child benefit cap in the King's Speech, opposing an amendment tabled by the Scottish National Party (SNP).[5] The vote came amid protest from the left of the Labour Party to scrap the restriction on child benefit eligibility, introduced by the Conservative Party in 2017.
Personal life
editShe is married to senior Labour Party operative, Morgan McSweeney, the head of political strategy for UK prime minister Keir Starmer. McSweeney and Walker have a son together.[6]
Walker is a landlord and rents out two apartments. [7]
