Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Categories
[edit]Hi Alex, I created a category for your photos: Category:Photographs by Alexisrael. If you add this to the summary when you upload all your photos
[[Category:Photographs by Alexisrael]]
then they will all be put in this category.
Have a look at Category:Tennis players. What I tend to do, is if the player's country has a subcategory here (e.g. Category:Tennis players from Russia), put their photo in that category. e.g. I edit the image page and add
[[Category:Tennis players from Russia]]
to the page, and save it. The category appears at the bottom of the page.
If they don't have a country there (e.g. there is no Category:Tennis players from Cyprus), then I write in two categories:
[[Category:Tennis players]] [[Category:People of Cypus]]
(or whichever country it happens to be). Then hit save. Then you're all done.
Does it make sense? --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 01:00, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Also, this photo needs the original high resolution version: Image:Greg rusedski.jpg. (But you will have to wait 4 days to upload it, because of a software setting that stops new users overwriting existing files.) pfctdayelise (说什么?) 01:02, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Looks fantastic!! Nice shots! --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 06:51, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 19:55, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Ram
[edit]Nice pic of Ram ... but do you think you might crop it? The bottom half of it is mostly empty court. (or, if you prefer, I could try to do it). Tx.--68.173.101.114 06:53, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit]We wanted to let you know that we've used one of your pictures in a project of ours: http://litpics.tumblr.com/post/23667699292/lit-a-book-for-the-young-by-sarah-french-pic
We created a computer program to generate random pairings of sentences from public domain texts and public domain / creative commons images. Some of the pictures we've selected come from the Wikipedia Commons. All the pictures we select ourselves, but the pairings and the text are random. Of these pairings that are generated, we only post the most interesting combinations.
We welcome any feedback about our site.
Thanks for sharing your pictures,
Samantha and Patrick

[edit]Hello Alex, The photo that you placed on the Highland Falls, New York page is mostly of West Point property...and not Highland Falls. The Ladycliff College property was acquired by the federal government, and is now part of the Academy. It would be better to list photos of the many other picturesque areas in the village, such as Roe Pond, a perhaps an historic photo of Main Street ( as displayed on http://www.buttermilkbrook.com ).
File:Sofia Vergara Diet Pepsi.JPG has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File:Stuyvesant Model.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Alexisrael. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Alexisrael~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Use of Fuquay Varina Downtown Photo
[edit]Hello Alexisrael!
I work for a local home builder in the Fuquay-Varina area and my company would love to feature your photo on our website for a piece about Fuquay-Varina. Do we have your permission to do so? Do you have an email address I can communicate with you on? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.142.216.110 (talk) 14:32, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Cigarette Rolling Papers.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Cigarette Rolling Papers.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
