There is some difference in whether the colours in the Flag of Iceland are like this or like this, the latter being your version, what sources did you use when colouring it that way? --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 07:38, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I used the data from Vexilla Mundi (Mello Luchtenberg). It's supposed to be PMS 293. (The RGB values shifted a little when I converted the image to a 3 colour palette, but not much.) As to wether the lighter or the darker colours are correct: On Flags of the World it says:
- In recent years, the government of Iceland considered issuing colour specifications in the more well known Pantone Matching System and in the CMYK system. For printing, PMS 287 and CMYK 100-69-0-11.5 were proposed for the blue colour, and PMS 1795 and CMYK 0-94-100-0 for the red colour.
- The RGB value of #003897 in your version is indeed a good rendering of PMS 287, just as #d72828 is for PMS 1795, so it may very well be that your flag better follows the specifications and that my flag is too light. Luchtenberg's data is supposedly from the Album des Pavillons which in this case probably tries to approximate the colours from the official specifications. -- Sebastian Koppehel 10:41, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
It would be really nice to get the official colours, according to the law regarding the flag (see: Flag of Iceland ) they are the following (I don't suppose you can use SCOTDIC colours?):
- Sky-blue colour: SCOTDIC number 693009.
- Snow-white colour: SCOTDIC number 95.
- Fire-red colour: SCOTDIC ICELAND FLAG RED.
--Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 14:27, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I'm not familiar with the SCOTDIC colour system; I gather it is meant to be used exclusivcely for textiles. The amateurish website of the SCOTDIC company is not very helpful either. However, if (as indicated above) the Icelandic government has proposed PMS 287 and 1795, then we might take these shades as the best approximation of official values that we can get hold of for the time being. I therefore reverted Image:Flag of Iceland.png to your version. --Sebastian Koppehel 03:09, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Could you make a new version of Image:Flag of Iceland.png which uses the newer darker colours but is in the same size and dimensions as the new one? Thanks. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 22:27, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Borders
editRegarding the borders: If the image is framed then it has a background and a border. Either way is fine by me, as long as the image itself has no border. Again, thanks for your diligent work, and I DO appreciate it (border or no boder). -- Chris 73 07:58, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- By the way, I re-uploaded some of the flags where you removed the border so that they have the right size. I guess I can sometimes be a bit perfectionist :-) I also "freed" some other flags of their borders. And thanks for your warm appreciation - dafür nich, wie man bei uns hinterm Deich sagt. -- Sebastian Koppehel 01:49, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- It's best to do it in the html code i think, the images themselves should be exact replicas. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 11:02, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Image:Flag of Andorra.png
editI uploaded Image:Flag of Andorra.png which is not in tune with your flags, perhaps you'd like to make one and replace it? --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 00:50, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I shall look into it. As for the Iceland flag, I made a bigger version. -- Sebastian Koppehel 01:49, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC):
European flag
editYou uploaded the Flag of Europe under the name "Flag of the European Union.png", i have moved it and deleted the old file as it was both misleading and unfactual, see en:European flag. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 01:52, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks, you are right of course. By the way, could you delete this old version of Image:Slovakia Coat of Arms.png I uploaded accidentally? -- Sebastian Koppehel 03:40, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- No problem, deleted that old revision. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 05:25, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Benin
editHi, I made a flag of Benin and I tried to follow your instructions (height 800px, ratios and RGB values from Vexilla Mundi). Can you check if I did it correctly? Mtcv 12:02, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Het afbeelding is heel correct, voor zover als ik kan zien -- Sebastian Koppehel 05:48, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Flag template
editHi SKopp,
The work you're doing with flags is great---thanks! Have you considered putting a template, say Template:SKopp-flag, on the image description pages? It could have some of the information from User:SKopp, with a link to more details.
Dbenbenn 19:34, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Hello again, SKopp. Great work with the SVG flags. Did you know you can easily get more accurate results by editing the SVG by hand? For example, compare the two versions of Image:Flag of Japan.svg, or Image:Flag of Bolivia.svg. Cheers, dbenbenn | talk 05:17, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
- Hey, I have some flags drawn at the EN Wikipedia, and if you want, I can upload them here. Zscout370 (sound off) 06:14, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. I shall look into hand-optimising some of the flags. --Sebastian Koppehel 08:32, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

India flag
editThank you for drawing the India flag in svg. There are a few minor issues with the flag:
- The diameter of the blue chakra in the centre should be 75% of the central white band. It is currently 90%.
- I also notice that there is no white central band, I think this may cause problems when the background is of another colour
- The colours are currently incorrect: w:Image:India flag large.png has the nearest approximated colours.
If you need any other help; w:User:Brhaspati has written a MATLAB code for the flag; available here: w:User:Brhaspati/indflag. Nichalp 13:54, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Two answer the points:
- Please see here for an eploration of the issue of the size of the Ashoka Chakra. Apparently the official definition is 75%, but has no relevance in reality. 90% looks about right to me.
- The image has a white background.
- The colours may be debatable, but I don't quite see why the one linked by you should be better and mine should be incorrect.
- --Sebastian Koppehel 15:26, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
I like the new array of flags that you're creating, but I have one problem with the Japanese flag. Is it possible to put a faint, gray outline around the flag, for times when it's used on a white background? I would do this myself, but I have no clue how to do so. Thanks! -70.176.93.225 05:02, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- This has been discussed before in regards to flags so I'll answer this one: Our with the flag images is to produce the flag as accurately as possible, hence, if the flag doesn't have a border according to the flag law of the country in question (or whatever the authority on the flag happens to be) we don't put one on it. —Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 08:13, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- Furthermore, it's easy to add a border with HTML. See w:Template:Frame, which is used at w:Washington, D.C., for example. dbenbenn | talk 14:15, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
Taiwan flag
editYou have been replacing en:Image:ROC flag large.png with Image:Flag of Taiwan.svg. However, the colors do not seem to match. I believe the colors used at Image:ROC flag large.png are indeed the correct ones, as that is the version found on government website (it also matches the flags flying from government buildings and hanging on the walls in Taiwan). Did you use another source in drawing this flag? --Jiang 00:39, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
Flags
editCould you put in your flags for Guernsey, Puerto Rico, Maldives, and Tunisia. I saw them at your site and would very much like to see them on commons. – Krun 22:13, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
The flags at [2] are all public domain, right? (At least, you don't assert any copyright over the specific SVG code?) Your user page says they are GFDL, but it seems you've been using {{PD-self}} for the SVG flags you've been uploading. Anyway, I uploaded Image:Flag of the Orange Free State.svg and used {{PD-user|SKopp}}. If I should change that to GFDL, please let me know. Perhaps you could add a note to your web page explaining the copyright status? I'd like to upload the other flags that aren't here on the Commons yet. Thanks, User:dbenbenn 20:34, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Hi SKopp. Kannst du noch die Flage Gambias erstellen? Schaengel89 11:49, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

I've an user on fr:, who lives in Cameroon, who think, that the star on flag is too big. He think that the png is more accurate.
Anyway, thank for your work, it's great one, we gonna drop png flag soon. fr:Utilisateur:Bilou
Pakistan Provincial Flags
editHi,
On your website, I saw some provincial flags of Pakistan: Sindh, Punjab, NWFP, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir. If possible could you add them to Category:Flags of Pakistan, also there needs to be provincial symbols of Pakistan, under the similar along the lines of the Canadaian rules and regulations.
Here the link to your website: http://www.vexilla-mundi.com/pakistan.htm
Many Thanks -- Fast track 19:16 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Vatican Flag
editI noticed that the Vatican City State was absent from your list of flags. Might you consider making one? (The rest of your work is awesome!)

edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Émile Ollivier.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - Specifically the fact that _you_ made a derivative work of a Flag that you marked as PD-Self. The license would need to retain what ever the original flags license is. --ShakataGaNai Talk 21:59, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Flag of tajikistan.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion.
