Signing for Manchester United at the age of 17 Bests career went from strength to strength going on to win the Football League Championship and European Cup as well as winning 37 caps for Ireland. In 1968 Best was also named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association, the youngest player to do so at the age of 21 as well as European Footballer of the Year. Ultimately it was his celebrity lifestyle that started a steady decline in his career, his extravagant lifestyle leading to problems with alcoholism and his demise in 2005. In this definitive and in depth programme George's father Dickie Best tells his son's story, charting his journey from sporting hero to alcoholic.
