Gentilicii mores[1] sunt traditionales artes, litterae, scientia, et mores, qui plerumque per communicationem vivam et exempla traduntur.[2] Res sic transmissae notiones et aestimationes communes certi gregis exprimunt. Folklore vocabulum Anglicum anno 1846 excogitavisse agnoscitur.[3] Eruditio vulgaris disciplina academica rationes, sumptiones, et cognitiones cum litteris, anthropologia, arte, musica, historia, linguistica, philosophia, et mythologia communiter habet. Elliott Oring affirmat eruditionem vulgarem esse partem culturae quae "postea feliciter vivit."[4] Folkloristica est academicum eruditionis vulgaris studium.
