editFrom Proto-Albanian *dela, from *dʰeh₁-l-os, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁-l- (compare Latvian dêls (“son”), Old English delu (“teat”), Old Armenian դալ (dal)), from *dʰeh₁(y)- (“to suck”). Originally a neuter noun, as it appears in Buzuku's Meshari.[1]
