Administrators' newsletter – August 2022
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2022).
- An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.

- The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
- Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)
- The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.
- You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.

September music
editThank you for your work ITN, today Lars Vogt, with chamber music pictured. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:26, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- You're very welcome, Gerda. Nice pics. Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 15:58, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you! The rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and this year was full of music that day, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto, and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:33, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Today, we sang old music for two choirs at church, pictured, scroll to the image of the organ of the month of the Diocese of Limburg (my perspective), and if you have time, watch the video about it --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:20, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- ... and today I wrote an article about music premiered today, Like as the hart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:01, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
- Great! How timely! Good luck at DYK. --PFHLai (talk) 19:25, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
The link works for me, that's strange; the Wayback Machine was also only picking up the deadlink. Since the website is entirely licensed under CC4.0, I was able to manually upload the webpage to archive.org. It's jank, but it works, I guess lol. Curbon7 (talk) 19:40, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for fixing the ref, Curbon7. That's good now. --PFHLai (talk) 01:59, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – October 2022
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.
- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. If you wish to help out at AFC, enable AFCH by navigating to Preferences → Gadgets and checking the "Yet Another AfC Helper Script" box.
- Remedy 8.1 of the Muhammad images case will be rescinded 1 November following a motion.
- A modification to the deletion RfC remedy in the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been made to reaffirm the independence of the RfC and allow the moderators to split the RfC in two.
- The second phase of the 2021-22 Discretionary Sanctions Review closes 3 October.
- An administrator's account was recently compromised. Administrators are encouraged to check that their passwords are secure, and reminded that ArbCom reserves the right to not restore adminship in cases of poor account security. You can also use two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide an extra level of security.
- Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections open 2 October and close 8 October.
- You are invited to comment on candidates in the 2022 CUOS appointments process.
- An RfC is open to discuss whether to make Vector 2022 the default skin on desktop.
- Tech tip: You can do a fuzzy search of all deleted page titles at Special:Undelete.

ITN RD
editHello, hope you don't mind me asking as you seem like an old ITN hand. Is this archiving the end for Wong Phui Nam and Mark Souder? I'm new to the process, so I don't know if they're meant to go up or if it's up to admin discretion or if there's a random lottery. A bit biased perhaps but I thought Wong Phui Nam would be a nice addition for a bit of diversity given the current RDs are all but one Americans. Best, CMD (talk) 03:08, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, CMD. Thank you for letting me know about this. The Wong Phui Nam article received a Support vote within the 7-day time limit with no objections from anyone, and IMO should have been promoted to MainPage. I guess no admins are around to take care of this. I'll handle this entry myself soon. The next time you see good noms not getting processed and disappearing into the archive, please be encouraged to post a note at Wikipedia talk:In the news. Thank you. --PFHLai (talk) 05:40, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the answer. This was my first dip into ITN, so I will keep an eye out going forward! Best, CMD (talk) 07:32, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
editHello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
editNews and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. (T319449)
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
- The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add
/64
to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.

editHi there. No one is voting on this nomination either way in ITN. Article looks good/no tags. I think it should be posted. But what happens if no one votes for it before the expiry time? SitcomyFan (talk) 10:25, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, SitcomyFan. If there is no support at all, the nom may scroll off ITN/C at the end of the 7 days and into the archive where it rests in peace. You can appeal to admins and other editors on Talk:ITN, if you like. This wikibio currently has less than 300 words of prose. Is there anything else to write about him? --PFHLai (talk) 12:20, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response - and good to see it was posted! I'm working on another couple of articles, Quentin Oliver Lee and Jharana Das. I only noticed these. Is the cut-off time from the date itself, date it was reported, or date it was nominated? These were both only just nominated (maybe I shouldn't have listed them far back on the date itself?) and just wondering if there is time to continue working on them. The first one is almost there, I think, but haven't had a chance to work on the other one yet. If you could let me know the cut-off on them, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again for all your help. SitcomyFan (talk) 08:16, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for working on these wikibios and providing materials for use on RD. Both noms appear to be listed in the correct sections on ITN/C. It's the date of death or date of first report on the death if the report came later. The wikipage needs to be ready within a week after that. For Das (d. Dec. 2nd), today (Dec. 9th, UTC) is the final day of eligibility. If you want to expand it for RD, please do so ASAP. There is less than 12 hours left. --PFHLai (talk) 12:12, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the response. Regarding Jharana Das, I've added some more info and sources to the article. If you have time to take a look, let me know if you feel it is ready/almost ready, how much more work it might need. I don't feel sufficiently qualified to add filmography tables and I think I've added quite a lot to her Career section - most of the information contained in English sources. There's probably more info out there in Indian. I feel it is sufficient now for ITN? Not sure if you agree. SitcomyFan (talk) 13:53, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- It's not the greatest, but it's good enough. It's on MainPage now. Cheers! -- PFHLai (talk) 05:10, 10 December 2022 (UTC)

editI have to admit I'm confused by your edits to this page. I removed Victoria Lee because, well, it's really stale compared to all the other folks who died in January. Feel free to fix, but right now how we do RD, she isn't in the list. - Fuzheado | Talk 17:50, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- It's not date of death, but date of news of the death. --PFHLai (talk) 17:54, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- It still doesn't seem like it's the right order. Please fix. Thanks. - Fuzheado | Talk 17:57, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- It's the order of posting by admins. --PFHLai (talk) 17:58, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- RE: "This list seems really messed up chronologically" -- It is indeed very messed up if there is any expectation of a chronological order. It's not. Some noms are ready for RD within a day of the death. Some deaths take a long time to become public and even more time for the wikibio to qualify for RD. Don't worry about the dates, Fuzheado. --PFHLai (talk) 18:06, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)

- Thank you, - will check when I find the time. Good story on Easter Sunday, of 500 and 300 years ago and still fresh listening! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:18, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Too bad the date of Easter is not a fixed date (so complicated...), or the good story would be a good candidate for SA/OTD on MainPage. Oh, well... --PFHLai (talk) 12:20, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- The good story of 300 St John Passion wasn't accepted for that (silly) reason, - I didn't want to argue again. For a happier Easter ;) - However, over this year there will be a 300th anniversary every week for a choral cantata, and I would like at least the better articles of those to be mentioned, and I would not like them some weekday, but the relevant Sunday. I'll have to think how to achieve that. The feast days are easier, 24 June, 2 July, 29 September, as they are fixed days. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:51, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Looking forward to having more music on MainPage. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 16:01, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

- Listening was wonderful! For the first time in decades, I had too much of a could to sing in choir, so only participated from the "other side", and still not sure about tonight's Easter vigil. relief: the last of six RD articles in one week is now on the Main page - yesterday a great recital with many anti-war songs by Jewish composers whose music was banned by the Nazis. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:34, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for not only being active for the RD, but also OTD, especially for 20 May. What I don't understand, though, is why you removed Fritz Koenig, born 1924 and not listed last year. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:54, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
I looked and saw two reasons: bad sourcing and - worse - 20 June not May ;) - will try to fix the sourcing until then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:04, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gerda. You've sent me back to look. I was editing an old version. Now fixed, I hope. --PFHLai (talk) 13:27, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you and happy to see it on the Main page today! We sang it in 2000. Today's program was easier but also spirited. I found a nice video of "I will sing with the spirit", with nature photography, - enjoy. - What do you think of mentioning the 150th anniversary of Verdi's Requiem on 22 May OTD? I added it to day and year but not to the selection because I saw that you checked it already. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:19, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Gerda. I like the idea of having this on MainPage on the 150th anniversary, but the wikiarticle Requiem (Verdi) may need more referencing to get on MainPage. You still have a day to work on it, though. And, my edits at Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/May 22 have been overwritten. You may want to check with User:Z1720, who seems more strict about selections for OTD than I am. Hope this helps. Happy editing! --PFHLai (talk) 21:46, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, I'll try after sleep. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:58, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- I added refs and some content. Will move this discussion to the selected anniversaries. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:20, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- Glad to see that on MainPage. Happy 150th anniversary! --PFHLai (talk) 00:18, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for noticing! Today's story also mentions a concert I loved to hear, on top of the piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:16, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- Today's story about Willi Brokmeier still needs support for RD, - don't miss 1972 video ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:56, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Your support did it, thank you! - Today's story is my little contribution to Trinity Sunday, with a church named after the Trinity (which I'd have liked to see pictured, and what would be a good description of that kind of facade? "splendid" was reverted as not neutral) and a cantata Bach conducted 300 years ago for the occasion (having composed it 9 years earlier). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:59, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Glad to see that on MainPage. Happy 150th anniversary! --PFHLai (talk) 00:18, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing Hugues Gall to the Main page while I was out! - Enjoy today's story, related to my topic of the year: 300 years Bach's chorale cantatas, and the first was written for today. The music opens with a French overture for a chorale fantasy. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:06, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome, Gerda. Thank you for producing more and more materials for use on MainPage. --PFHLai (talk) 22:18, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- Franz Kafka died 100 years ago OTD, hence the story. I uploaded a few pics from the visit of Graham87. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:42, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
- re Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/June 11: I believe that Bach's cantata should have come when the Sunday was, instead of the Tuesday after the Second Sunday after Trinity. It was performed on 2 June internationally, and this seems kind of misleading. But if - thinking better to point at it the wrong day than not at all - can we add BWV 20, for extra clarity, because O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort, BWV 60 has the same title? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:01, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Just added "BWV 20" for extra clarity as requested. Sorry for the slow response. Was busy yesterday. It's not the Sunday after Trinity. It's too late for that. But today is indeed June 11th. Happy 300th anniversary! PFHLai (talk) 08:01, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- I had it in for 2 Jun, but it was moved to 11. I explained several times, made a comment in the Selected anniversaries that we better wait a few years then until 11 Jun falls on the right Sunday, - I didn't want it all today. But then I thought twice and reflected that it's better to point at a masterwork, beginning an incredible series of masterworks 300 years ago, on the wrong day than not at all. - I wanted to write a happy song story today, on a friend's birthday, but now we have the word of thunder on top of it ;) - did you listen? The new lilypond is quite impressive, and in the articles, there are other recordings. As my 2 Jun story said: Bach was fired up. - Today's Main page is rich in music, also Franz Liszt and a conductor. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:05, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- done - and this thread even began with the cantata ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:25, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- I think it's good either way. June 11th is probably easier for (non-Christian) people to understand and follow. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 23:48, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- But Christian or not, to mention a Sunday anniversary on Tuesday, - isn't that misleading? - Today is "the day" for James Joyce, also for Bach's fourth chorale cantata, - the new pics have a mammal I had to look up. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:35, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- I would prefer specifying "that year" after "... after Trinity" in the blurb, but it got edited out. Oh, well,.... Anyway, Happy Bloomsday! (We know it's not Thursday.) :-) -- PFHLai (talk) 19:50, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you ;) - thank you also for the updates, I plan the next cantata 24 June, fixed date ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:58, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, Gerda. Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/June 24 has already been refreshed for 2024 by User:ScarletViolet. You may want to check with him about Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam, BWV 7. Hope this helps. Too many cooks may spoil the broth, so I'm staying out for now. Happy editing. Cheers! -- PFHLai (talk) 11:20, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- New pics of food and flowers come with the story of Noye's Fludde (premiered on 18 June), written by Brian Boulton. I nominated Éric Tappy because he died, and it needs support today! I nominated another women for GA in the Women in Green June run, - review welcome, and more noms planned. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:49, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- Today we have a centenarian story (documentation about it by Percy Adlon) and an article that had two sentences yesterday and was up for deletion, and needs a few more citations. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:13, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Today - as you know - is a feast day for which Bach composed a chorale cantata in 1724 (and we had a DYK about it in 2012). Can't believe that Jodie Devos had to die, - don't miss her video from the Opéra-Comique at the end, - story to come. The weekend brought plenty of music sung and listened to, and some of it is reflected in the last two stories! + pics of good food with good company --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:23, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

On a friend's birthday - she is pictured on my talk - I have another RD death article that needs reviewing, Martti Wallén. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:04, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

- Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, the bass and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:33, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- I remember today Bach's 1724 cantata for this Sunday which is unusual in many respects. The violinist is on the Main page now but another woman needs attention for RD, Marina Kondratyeva. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:55, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

- She's on the Main page now, thanks to you among others! My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:11, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Only now did I take the time to find who brought the Mozart opera to OTD: you! More thanks!! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:02, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you! Thinking about BWV 178 for 30 July. - The occasion would be tomorrow but we had the discussion of date vs. liturgy, and also I'm not ready ;) - Two more women died, and I saw one only today, last day, no article yet, - will probably also too short, but she deserves some sort of coverage at least. - Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:51, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- BWV178, based om a 1524 hymn, a paraphrase of Psalm 124 (so many 24s), is now on SA/OTD template for the 200th anniversary, date-wise. You have ~10 days. :-) Happy editing! Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 13:14, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! ... and today's story is that, beginning with Psalm 124, paraphrased in 1524, and put to five (!) chorale settings in one cantata by Bach in 1724, for this Sunday. Nominated for GA. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:56, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
- Would suggest a music history. Placing Sarah Geronimo on the OTD for July 25 can commemorate her 36th birthday. (PS I'm currently working on the article to be promoted to GA, then FA.) ScarletViolet 💬 📝 13:20, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, ScarletViolet, I was offline during the past week. Perhaps Sarah Geronimo can get on the SA/OTD for her 37th, or better, 40th birthday? Should be GA by then, I hope? :-) --PFHLai (talk) 13:45, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Main Page history/2024 July 30b will have a baritone, a violinist, a composer (all by you!) and a Bach cantata, - almost too much, and the composer's article, Wolfgang Rihm, should be better, help wanted. - Plenty of music on my parents anniversary day ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:13, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
- Happy Musical Anniversary! -- PFHLai (talk) 22:57, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

OTD 16 July
editHi! I've just started trying to contribute to the OTD feature, and had added a (new) suffragette for 16 July, and wondered why she had been switched out? I thought I had followed the guidelines, so am very receptive to feedback. I wondered if, whether I'm editing a day, instead of just adding in one bit, is it clearer for other volunteers if I attempt to revise the whole thing? Thanks for the advice Lajmmoore (talk) 10:51, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Lajmmoore. Thank you for helping out at SA/OTD. I have brought Ellen Oliver back to the live portion of the SA/OTD template. Earlier, I was refreshing the SA/OTD template for 2024, but did not notice that Ellen Oliver was a recent addition till after I thought I was done with the refreshing. I had looked at all the other eligible and available wikibios, this start-class wikibio, with only ~330 words, seemed rather stubby and less desirable for showcasing on MainPage when compared to other more developed wikibios on the list. I was looking for articles with more contents to give readers of MainPage something to read after clicking on the link. So, Ellen Oliver was left out. Her name was not removed because of any violation of guidelines. It's now back where you left it. It's a wiki and we are all volunteers. You are welcome to edit these 366 templates as you see fit. Hope this helps. Happy editing. Cheers! -- PFHLai (talk) 01:53, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks so much @PFHLai - these are really good tips! Lajmmoore (talk) 13:24, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

WP:REWARD sponsor
editHello!
Back when I was more active on Wikipedia, I contributed some to WP:OTD. As I return on a very sporadic basis, I was looking to find a new sponsor for the reward board to help improve OTD. Let me know! Heart (talk) 14:26, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Heart. Yes, SA/OTD could use more editor participation. Thank you for your contributions thus far. And sorry, I don't know what you mean by "sponsor". I just saw what you posted at WP:REWARD last year. Nice of you to do so. My participation in the wiki will be sporadic, too, for the next six weeks at least. Quite busy and stressful at my day (paid) job these days, actually. Oh, well.... Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 13:57, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

Today I have - thanks to you - two "musicians" on the Main page, one is also the topic of my story, watch and listen, - I like today's especially because you see him at work, hear him talk about his work and the result of his work - rare! - I add BWV 101 to 13 August OTD, please check. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:28, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
... and a third, like 22 July but with interview and the music to be played today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:36, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- BWV101 is now on Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/August 13. More music on MainPage. --PFHLai (talk) 11:28, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, - I would have tried in the anniversaries eventually but was too busy, - have a FAC open and want to translate yesterday's composer's article into German, just began expanding one of the pieces in today's story, + RL. Talking about RL: the picture was taken in celebratory mood on 13 August last year ;) - nice coincidence! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:21, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome. With my RL getting in the way, I probably won't be online much the next few days. Hope you have a wonderful day on Tuesday, Gerda. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 08:37, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, look! The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. It's nice to have not only a recent death, but also this "birthday" on the Main page. And a rainbow in my places. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:54, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Help? My story today is about a woman, nominated for RD but needing support as I write this. A composer died whose article is long and mostly unreferenced. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:47, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

- Yes, that was a relief. I was about to post for admin help on the news talk, when I saw that the desired message had arrived. The Goehr problem (missing references, copyvio) will take days to solve, though, details on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:40, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- Today it's Siegfried Lorenz (baritone), on his birthday, nominated for RD. The concerns regarding Goehr are detailed on the talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:26, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- Good to see Le Dizès is already on MainPage. Stephen took care of the posting. --PFHLai (talk) 03:50, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome. With my RL getting in the way, I probably won't be online much the next few days. Hope you have a wonderful day on Tuesday, Gerda. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 08:37, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

I left a note on Wikipedia talk:Selected anniversaries/September 4 about hopefully including Bruckner on his 200th birthday tomorrow. I forgot over Alexander Goehr, sorry. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:13, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
Schwede66 explained that he had to many "citation needed", sigh. Therefore: Today's story has 3 composers, I couldn't decide for the one on the Main page or the one who didn't make it on his bicentenary, so took both, and the pic has a third. Listen if you have a bit of time. The music, played by the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra in Germany in April 2022, impressed me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:54, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
To celebrate the day, I listened to Bruckner's Eighth on radio, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:07, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry. I wasn't around to help with anything the past couple of days. --PFHLai (talk) 22:15, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- That's fine, no problem. The world celebrated Bruckner ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:22, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- [1] for example. - Recommended reading today: Frye Fire, by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:29, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- Jesu, der du meine Seele, BWV 78 became GA today, and I added it to 1724 and 10 September, please check if you think it could also go to the Selected anniversaries. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:37, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Great! Thanks, Gerda. It's now on SA/OTD for the 300th anniversary. --PFHLai (talk) 00:38, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Great, it's now "on", and my story! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:40, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Also there today: Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display, portrayed by Egon Schiele, with music from Moses und Aron, and with two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday, which made me happy then and now again. - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:20, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- I added another Bach cantata, to September 29 and 1724, this time - for a change - on the real feast day in whatever system, also in bright major mode with a very familiar hymn tune and three trumpets, - there's one aria for just bass voice, trumpets and timpani, and continuo - nor other instruments ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:27, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Now on Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/September 29. Happy Michaelmas! --PFHLai (talk) 08:49, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! It will be my story, but (this year) could also be BWV 96, for the Sunday if it's wasn't trumped by the feast day, and the perennial B minor mass that we sang on 29 September (2013) and that I'll hear this year! (I mentioned it on 25 September, 2013 rehearsal pictured, to begin the celebrations.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:06, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Perhaps it's time to plan for SA/OTD for October 8th. :-) --PFHLai (talk) 09:36, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

WP:ITNN: I have a nom for Michael Sladek open that needs attention. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:22, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Admin:Schwede66 has posted Sladek on RD before I could log in. --PFHLai (talk) 22:35, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that was great, on the subject's birthday. I was travelling and then too tired to say nevermind ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:20, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Great. No worries. --PFHLai (talk) 10:03, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- You may remember Maryvonne Le Dizès, my story today as on 28 August. Some September music was unusual: last compositions and eternal light, with Ligeti mentioned in story and music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Today I remember an organist who was pictured on the Main page on his birthday ten years ago, and I found two recent organ concerts to match, - see top of my talk. I nominated Helmut Bauer for RD, whose Requiem (livestream) is tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:11, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the timely promotion of Helmut Bauer to the Main page on the day when pieces from Mozart's Requiem were performed for him! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:59, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome, Gerda. It's his turn anyway. Today is the last day of ITN eligibility. BTW, is this where he died? We can add a wikilink maybe? --PFHLai (talk) 14:00, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for that find, implemented! - I added a particularly beautiful cantata, Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 180 to 22 October and 1724, - one more with a date, - he composed it for last Sunday ;) - Leif Segerstam will hopefully attract attention in today or tomorrow. What a life! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:56, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- I made him my big story today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:49, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks to Admin:Spencer, Segerstam is now on MainPage. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 22:25, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, and yesterday two more! - Another cantata turned 300, Mache dich, mein Geist, bereit, BWV 115. Another bio last day for RD: Walter Jacob, thank you for help with referencing! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:00, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome, Gerda. Just a couple of clicks for me here and there. You contributed a lot more on the wikibio on Walter Jacob -- on MainPage now. --PFHLai (talk) 00:01, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- As already said on my talk, you made my day! A rich day! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:25, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for contributing more and more contents for use on MainPage! --PFHLai (talk) 23:49, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. The next one is particularly sad, as I saw him alive this month. I will nominate only after Gutierrez left the page ;) - both worked for the poor especially. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:29, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- May Fr Kamphaus rest in peace. --PFHLai (talk) 00:34, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
editHello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
