Could somebody add New York to the headquarters location from "|location = New York City, United States" to "|location = New York City, New York, U.S."?
108.45.29.72 (talk) 18:07, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
- Add a comma after New York. As well as changed US to "U.S." so that it says: New York, U.S. 108.45.29.72 (talk) 18:25, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

The Five Pillars of Tumblr
editI added a bit about The Five Pillars of Tumblr with a video by Dan Howell as the reference.
It was removed as vandalism.
It's clearly not vandalism.
Policy states that YouTube videos can be used if they are verified, which Dan is.

- I'd argue that it was an opinion that wasn't notable enough to warrant its own section in the article. By your logic, we should go through the List of YouTubers and list what each YouTube personality says about Tumblr, even the ones that don't interact with the website and blindly call it a "breeding ground for liberal virtue signalers" and whatnot. Tumblr has been criticized for its liberalism content and high social justice warrior population?
editThis is an inflammatory, unsourced statement that needs to be removed from the article:
"In recent years, Tumblr has been criticized for its liberalism content and high social justice warrior population." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:603:1300:6830:0:0:0:2 (talk) 06:28, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
- To the contrary, it does appear to be sourced. Benjamin (talk) 07:36, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
"Social justice warrior" is a term used by the alt-right and other right-wing extremists for anyone who disagrees with their political views. It is needlessly inflammatory to include in an article that pretends to be unbiased.
So ANYBODY who uses the term "social justice warrior" is a member of the alt-right and presumably a nazi? That is incredibly false, using a term doesn't make you a member of idealogy or group. I know many liberals who use that term to identify members of ANTIFA and such.Explorer22987 (talk) 16:53, 16 January 2018 (UTC) Explorer22987

NSFW tumblrs blocked for those not logged in
editWant to look at an artist's Tumblr today, but got message "This Tumblr may contain sensitive media. Safe mode is on". Was viewing Tumblr as a guest (ie. without username & password) and seems like guests can no longer view NSFW tumblrs. Wikipedia's Tumblr article says "pages classified as "NSFW" (not safe for work) will not feature in tag pages for users who are not logged in or who have the "Safe Mode" activated." Perhaps that text needs to be updated as it looks like people have to login (with username & password) to look at any NSFW tumblr. --EarthFurst (talk) 11:11, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- Also, does anyone know when Tumblr started blocking guests from viewing NSFW blogs? --EarthFurst (talk) 20:27, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Should type of NSFW be included? Not to sound vulgar but you got your standard porn and then the furry and MLP porn which is typically art. Just a thought.Explorer22987 (talk) 16:57, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
In all the social media websites, there must be login type added.
editIn all the social media websites, or the websites in which there is login, we must added proper description that how a user can login. like in some social media there is only login by phone number or in some email is only login or in some any of both are valid. There must be Login Type added in Infobox Software. Examples
Login Type - Only by Phone Number Login Type - Only by Email address(or Username) Login Type - Phone Number or Email address(or Username)(Any) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Niharpatel123456 (talk • contribs) 19:10, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

editIs it possible to find some statistics about Tumblr's traffic and blogs that are more recent? The most recent statistic about Tumblr's traffic comes from 2016 and the most recent one about its number of blogs is from 2017. Thank you.--Wii Music (talk) 01:41, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

The Steven Universe incident really has nothing to do with politics, so we should create a new section under the criticism section titled "Steven Universe fandom incident" 207.172.180.75 (talk) 17:59, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
Censorship
edit@PackMecEng: I disagree with your assertion. The wider censoring and removal of NSFW content from Tumblr following the child sexual abuse images controversy is censorship. ViperSnake151 Talk 22:29, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
- I was just tying a section here on this when you posted. Basically Tumblr violated Apples TOS by hosting child porn. It is not censorship to remove that kind of stuff, it is actually the law. Plus it is fairly different than the other things in that section. I think it deserves it's own sub-heading. PackMecEng (talk) 22:30, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
RfC: Tumblr
editThe consensus is that the opening statement of the RfC is malformed and the RfC is closed with no outcome.

Unfortunately, Wikipedia and Tumblr is unreliable source? Banana19208 (talk) 06:53, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Banana19208: I don't understand your question. But why have you filed a WP:RFC here? Did you observe WP:RFCBEFORE? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:07, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- Tumblr is not a reliable source at all. It’s a social networking site made of personal blogs.... Trillfendi (talk) 16:47, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
Hi Banana19208, I've removed the RfC tag because the opening statement is malformed. As explained at Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a reliable source, Wikipedia doesn't meet the reliable source guideline because it is an open wiki, which contains user-generated content. Tumblr is also generally unreliable, since it is a self-published source. If you would like to discuss the reliability of sources in the context of how they're used in Wikipedia articles, you'll want to start a new discussion at the reliable sources noticeboard. Thanks! — Newslinger talk 00:55, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

ArchiveTeam on Tumblr
editTechDirt reported on the ArchiveTeam project to archive the now-deleted portions of Tumblr and how Tumblr responded: As A Final Fuck You To Free Speech On Tumblr, Verizon Blocked Archivists. Motherboard, Daily Dot, Boing Boing and Fast company also wrote about it. Nemo 07:30, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- The Tech Dirt source should probably be ignored as it seems totally crap. It offers absolutely no context or actual analysis and instead is full of clickbaitness. Motherboard at least seems to recognise what should be obvious to any with a modicum of experience of the internet would have recognised. There's a fair chance this was just an automated or semi automated response to excessive traffic and not a 'Final Fuck You To Free Speech'. Nil Einne (talk) 16:32, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
Yahoo
editThe lede is lousy, the features to follow other blogs or to keep blogs private are not notable. The infobox states that Yahoo was the parent company until 2017, IOW, it should not get an external link:

Change "Key People" from "Jeff D'Onofrio (CEO)" to "Matt Mullenweg (CEO)".

Edit Request
editThis article is not complete without a mention of the terminations under Criticisms. Tumblr is well-known and possibly unique in its apparently random account termination policy. Users regularly complain about losing their content posted over many years. Accounts may be terminated with no warning and with no reasons given. There is no appeal procedure. Users have complained that tumbler's defacto rules are 'whatever tumbler thinks they are' and there is a lack of clarity over why accounts are terminated. References: https://www.tumblr.com/search/terminated, https://www.reddit.com/r/TumblrAcctTerminated/ DrRobertHarwood (talk) 07:26, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- We would need a reliable source covering these terminations to include it. Apocheir (talk) 18:18, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
NY lawsuit and current ceo controversy
editTumblr had been subject to a lawsuit from the NYC Commission on Human Rights due to discriminatory moderation practices. Additionally, current Automatic CEO Matt Mullenweg is in the midst of a controversy surrounding continuing said practices in a very personal, unprofessional manner.
